Which was the best indie game of last gen and which is the best from this gen.

I have to admit that one of the best games I played last gen was Knytt Underground. That game really got the inner child out of me and now I always feel pleasently nostalgic everytime I remeber it or see anything about it. Sadly I haven't come accross anything like it this gen. Do any of you who played and liked Knytt have any suggestions of similar games this gen?

If not which were your favorite indie games from last gen and this gen so far? I might be missing some gems out there.

Super Meatboy was really good felt really crisp last gen

This gen i really like rocket league

I liked Super Meatboy too but got bored from it after a while. Haven't tried Rocket League but will give it a chance since I like car battle games!

Wow... Not even sure how to answer, there's been SO many great indie games.

I was hopelessly addicted to Rogue Legacy last gen... Meat boy was incredible, the swapper, anitchamber, Battleblock Theater, so many games.

This gen we have everyone's favorite most likely being Rocket League which deserving. Personally I though Shovel Knight nailed its content to the wall as an instant classic.

Also every game Housemarque has made is in the top 10 of games released over the last several year. Resogun, Alienation and Super stardust are not just good, they're simply exquisite video games.

I played Resogun and Super Stardust, soooooo good. I haven't Rogue Legacy or Shovel Knight. I keep hearing only good things about Shovel Knight so I'm definitely going to check it out.

Last gen it was Shadow Complex. I honestly almost bought an X360 for this game, but i was able to borrow one from a friend. Now it's available for PC too.

This gen it will be some other metroidvania, but i don't know which one yet. Masterclass of 2D gaming.

@dakur: honestly, get Alienation first! It's housemarques best game to date. You won't be disappointed. It was on sale last week. Not sure anymore.

I would have to first get a PS4 I guess :P I'm stuck with PC for the next several months

I enjoyed the heck outta Max: The Curse of Brotherhood.

This is not an easy one....there are hundreds of good indie games at this point. Probably last gen Minecraft and current gen Shovel Knight.

Last gen was Shadow Complex. This gen, Inside.

Yeah and it had IMO some very creative game-play and how you got through various parts of the game as well. Really surprised me how it sucked me in, I couldn't put it down. :)

Probably Braid. I enjoy puzzlers from time to time but it's rare I get hooked on one and find it as compelling to play as a story driven RPG for instance.

Braid not only had great puzzles, clever and challenging but not frustrating....I finished it all n my own and it felt quite satisfying. But it also had a cool dark atmosphere and a compelling story that I remember thinking about after finishing the game. It's a one of a kind game for me

Trials HD, Super Meat Boy, Splosion Man, Hotline Miami and maybe Castle Crashers where the best indie games from last gen i played.

This gen is meh as far as indie games for me.

Oh I agree completely about Braid. What an amazing game. Everytime someone doubts that video games can be art I show them Braid and Journey.

This gen would be Darkest Dungeon.

I don't think I have a last gen indie game that I played.

I'm not a fan of 99% of indie games but once in a blue moon there's a good one.

Eeeeh which use of the word Indie do we use? Most games here are not really Indie, but rather smaller A or AA ventures. Which is fine too.

I would pick Amnesia: The dark Descent, Red Orchestra 2 or Natural Selection 2 (Aparrently those are all considered Indie), and likely SOMA this gen. But to be honest so many great games that were not AAA games (which seems to be what indie means now) were really freaking great. I think last gen and this gen have had a larger volume of awesome games people consider "Indie" then AAA games. Is resogun Indie btw? because that might be a contender for this gen :)

My fave indie game from last gen was by far Limbo. Highly impressive how they could make it so atmospheric with its minimalist art direction, making for a memorable experience. Also gotta give high props to Journey, Flower (both which I actually played on PS4), Shadow Complex, and Dust: an Elysian Tail - stunning art style there.

For this gen, only one I played is Entwined, another visual treat.

Castle Crashers/Plants vs Zombies were my all time favorites last gen. This gen nothing has really caught me yet like those games did.

This gen it's ori and the blind forest. Rocket league is a close second.

You and @getyeryayasout have made me really take notice and plumb the indie scene more, thank you gentlemen.

Alienation is a GOTY contender for me for sure. Resogun didn't resonate with me. Ori, Broforce, Inside are among my favorites as well.

Last gen? Shadow Complex, Super Meat Boy, Splosion Man, Dust, Limbo I guess stood out.

Super Meat Boy is one of the best games from last gen.

Last gen LIMBO, this gen INSIDE, i just love those games.

Braid, Torchlight 2 and Stealth Bastard Deluxe were some of the finest games I played last gen.

This gen I'll go with Insurgency and SOMA.

I don't think it's my favorite, but it's a gem that nobody has mentioned yet: The Talos Principle

Yeah that's a tough one hey... both are unbelievably good.

Will Yooka-Laylee count as an indie game?

Can't think of one for last gen weirdly enough. My favorite indie of this gen though is easily Shovel Knight.

Rocket League is this gen's by far and probably till the end.

Didn't like anything last gen. But on the current gen Ori, Rocket League and soon to be Below.

I'm currently playing that one. Love it. One of the few games that has actually let me thinking and wondering about things. A good mixture of puzzles with philosophy.

Guacamelee was sooooo good. I spent so much hours on that game. I loved it.

I enjoyed the atmosphere is Limbo, the game not so much. I don't know why but I couldn't really get into it. I just wanted to finish it and get to something more interesting. I really loved Journey though and played it several times.

Legend of Grimrock 2 or Antichamber.

I'm currently playing Antichamber too. Beautifully weird game.
