I was watching old videos made during the 7th gen like "Video Game Years", and think made before 2011 PSN Outage, but they made fun of the Red Ring of Death on the 360, cause was a giant ass blunder.

I randomly saw another video on PSN outage, and made me think, which was a bigger stain?

I believe at the time, Red Ring was a bigger deal, however, MS isn't known for shitty hardware no more, while Sony has never shed their shitty network image, and continues to get hacked to this day and literally no one trusts Sony's ass with their information, hence idiots who still use it, rely on PSN cards from reputable store like Amazon.

Even their PS Now is ass and PS+ is ass, and the One X is just perfection and beast mode, so, 100 million units don't mean shit when you got a giant dick drawn on your face, wine all over your shirt, and should just go home Sony, you're drunk.

@saltslasher: you’re an idiot lem. Ms is in last place because people don’t forget how much their hardware sucks and how shitty their games are.

360 rrod was a billion dollar screw up. thinking psn outages is remotely close to that is why you continue to be an idiot lem. Ms is still releasing garbage hardware with wifi issues, stick drift, $180 controllers falling apart, etc.

Get some perspective you pathetic fool

They were both bad but the RRoD had a larger impact on me personally. My system broke the day Halo 3 released. Waiting to play my most anticipated game for the system while all my friends were playing it truly sucked so I ended up buying a second console which also ended up with the RRoD about a year later. I remember trying every trick listed on the internet to get it to work again, to no avail.

Sony still got people to begin to pay for their service after the outage took place, so I am not sure it was much of a stain on them.

RROD was and will forever be a bigger stain. The PSN outages didn't brick your hardware and although you couldn't play online, you could at least still turn your PS3 on and play offline. RROD made gamers either ship their console for a replacement that was likely to RROD again or buy a new console altogether if they were outside of the extended RROD warranty period.

MS not making faulty hardware anymore does not diminish the severity of the RROD issue. If that's the case then you can argue that the PSN outage wasn't that bad since Sony hasn't had an outage like that ever since.

YES! That happened to me as well. I was irate! And then it happened again when Halo Reach came out. I gave up after that. Really made it hard for me to buy an Xbox One this gen.

While I did buy an X1 this gen, it was not on release day like every other console I've owned since the Genesis.

How does an outage... even one that lasted that long.... compare at all to mass hardware failures? I had friends that went through 4 X360s! That's horrible.

There is no stain on anyone's legacy when things are good. People may bitch about a particular moment in time during that time and the moment things uptick, that moment is forgotten.

PS3 it is hard drive or disc. Both of which cause a lot of heat build up

Exactly.

The Xbox 360 hardware was a joke! So much so I think with the Xbox Series X MS took notice.

Heck with the XSX MS is touting the air flow design! I guarantee MS did some focus groups on the Xbox brand during this generation I bet they got a lot of negative feedback regarding hardware reliability....stemming from the 360

Actually no. They had to bring out a Slim 360 that addressed the issue.

@tomalevine: nothing you say is reasonable. The 360 was so poorly designed that the xbone was over engineered to ensure zero overheating issues. Look at how comically large the original xbone was with an external psu.

The one x is the only machine ms has gotten somewhat right in a loooooong time.

I certainly had more problems with 360 last gen, and my PS3 Slim still kicking, but I still remember 7th gen as liking 360 more.

My Xbox hardware since, has all been top notch, the One X and current controllers are amazing construction, even their surface products put Apple to shame, to point I forgot that MS use to be known for shitty hardware when watching the old vids. Sony's controller suck ass now and the ones that actually drift and fall apart, and their TV's suck ass, even though last gen had decent hardware.

However, I wouldn't dare put my information on the PS4 and nor would I a PS5. Everyone knows their online sucks ass compared to Xbox Live. To me, RRoD is as ancient as Matterick/Kinect, but shitty online is still very relevant, and try to give Sony benefit of the doubt, but PS Now is still ass, and they still don't give a shit.

Luckily I'm not a dumb asshole, who holds endless grudges cause a fucking hater, I.E. treat One X's like they are RRoDing and forced to come with kinect for $600 dollars. If anyone here,

Are you kidding me? Yes, the Sony hack was fucked up, especially since they didn't reveal what had happened until a week later. But, your PS3 wasn't broken. Microsoft rolled a defective product onto the market with the 360, and instead of recalling it, they put a band aid on the issue by constantly keeping shipping coffins in rotation. Only to give you back the same, new or refurbished soon-to-be dead console.

Peter Moore, for as successful as he made 360, actually stepped away from MS over this fiasco. It was not a thing to be taken lightly. I know you're mad as shit Xbox got walked over this gen, but if they were firing on all cylinders they'd sure as hell would be doing a lot better than they are now. Not especially sure why you're foaming at the mouth at why they got heat over this incident. Hell, MS needed to learn from this mistake.

What good does it do to stay salty at Sony over an Xbox ****-up... from last gen? I don't think it's Sony who's drunk here.

Edit: why is this site so shit on Firefox?

@saltslasher: surface products have had had failure rates over 25%, making them the most unreliable in the industry. Better than Apple hardware is a fukin joke and you know it.

You’re nothing but an ms fangirl. There’s a reason why Xbox hasn’t won a gen and it’s because you clowns bury your heads in sand and praise every move they make good or bad.

The 2011 PSN outage was definitely embarrasing and a big blow to Sony....I strongly feel games like Killzone 3 and SOCOM 4 suffered because of this. And of course Motorstorm Apocalypse with the Japanese earthquakes happening at the exact same time...it was just an unlucky year for the PS3.

The Xbox RRoD is kind of iconic though and something that will always be remembered and Microsoft will always be affiliated with it. So I choose RRoD.

While not a fanboy of any system or company, I do lean Xbox. That being said, the RROD is the reason I still won't buy any system at launch. I can't speak on the PSN outage as I never owned a PS3 so it didn't affect me.

@heathen75: Yeah, I think both PS3 and 360 made me wary of buying Day 1 systems.

It's weird cause I got a Day 1 360, but it was never RRoD'd. I knew like 1 person who did, and they got it replaced. If anything made me feel like Xbox backs their product, and feel since they've worked hard to be better at hardware. Even their launch mistakes of pushing anti-consumer shit, and learned.

With Sony, online and shit been an issue, and don't feel they've worked hard over last 10 years to make their online better, aka don't feel they've learned anything. Hell, PS2 going into PS3 era Sony were thick headed and supposedly learned a lesson, yet, they are repeating over-confidence, and not going to E3 feels like most over-confident thing you could do. I'd like to feel good about Sony going into 9th gen, but can't think of a single thing I'm stoked about with them, other than games, yet, everyone has games.

I owned a 360 Pro model which I bought in late 2008, and a late 2010 model that had the Kinect and a built-in wifi adapter. I never experienced the RRoD.

I also didn't subscribe to PSN until some point after the 2011 Outages, so those never affected me either.

For as much as these events happened, from my viewpoint it wasn't a big deal.
