This is something which has divided me and my friends for years (in a sort of, it dosnt ruin our lives way). Which is the better game?
Ive always said Vice City. Simply because it knew what it could do and did it well. Whereas San Andreas did alot well, but added in too much filler. For example, an under developed gym system.
San Andreas, definitely. It had a HUGE world, planes (the best vehicle in GTA ever), bikes, kung-fu moves, and you finally got to play as a black guy. Go ethnic minorities!
San Andreas. Huge world, so much to do, much more customization, tons of extras. The only thing missing was the sense of humor Vice City had. But SA also had the Slamvan. Man that ride is badass!
Vice City, and by a long shot. I get really tired of that wannabe "gangsta" crap that San Andreas pushes. There are real gangsters where I live and they're nothing like the tools in that game.
I love the entire 3d series..But I put San Andreas above them all because of the sheer scope of the game world and the amount of stuff you can do. I still play it to this day.
I think that most people who bash GTA are posers. They act like the games are horrible and turn their nose up to it to try and look like sophisticated gamers..While I understand that GTA isn't everyones cup of tea to call it crap is beyond moronic..They are very well written and acted and the dialog on the radio is probably some of the funniest I've ever heard in a game..There are issues, lots of them, but I think that adds to the charm of the world. After all our world isn't perfect either.

Um dude...It's a game? The characters are sort of a parody, they aren't supposed to be like some dudes in your area..

The humor is what made me like Vice City so much, outside of it just being a fun game. Liked it the best out of the three GTA3 games. The story was more interesting as well and love the whole 80s setting.
I overall enjoyed Vice City more, it was just the right size so I could get a good understanding of the whole map, but it was big enough that every once in a while Id see a place I never seen before, plus I really perfered the 80s, mafia like thing, & sometimes the games music was the main reason for keeping you car from exploding, & idk, good memeories with that thing... & I found SA a little too big (imo) instead of VC were you learn like 3 differant areas of a city, you learn 3 differant cities, with a bunch of muck between them, not really a bad thing though, thats alot of content, but I enjoyed the atmosphere & story of VC alot more...
San An was too big. It lost my interest after I hit the second city. They have one mission where you have to drive for 10 minutes across the whole map in a buggy car and if you fail you get to spend another 10 minutes driving (guess what part I haven't beaten). Vice City was much more fun. Heck it was a better Scarface game than the "Official" Scarface game.
Everonye rags on GTA but what GTA is can neve rbe copied look at Saints Row, tried hard, but failed. GTA is my second favourite franchise after halo cant wait for GTA 4
I would vote for Vice City as the more fun, more perfectly realized game. Great cast (Ray "Goodfellas" Liotta, Dennis Hopper, Jenna Jameson, Burt freakin' Reynolds, etc...), sharper and funnier writing, hilarious music, perfect satirical setting (Florida in the 80's), and satisfying "empire building" experience. By the end of the game, you're basically the Godfather, and the whole city is working for you! Yes San Andreas was bigger, you could swim, and you could use a certain purple double-ended weapon.... but Vice City is funnier and more fun to mess around in.
I picked up Grand Theft Auto III, had fun for about two days, and it got boring. "Well, surely San Andreas is better, bigger world, more stuff, more everything". Quit playing after around 3 hours of gameplay. They're so boring.

Vice city had a better story, even if it was a Scarface rip-off, but San Andreas was a deeper and more polished experience. How San Andreas didn't get a 10 still boggles my mind to this day.Â
Probably San andreas. I loved to ride a bicycle, jump out of planes with a parachute..it was so much fun ! Vice city was also awesome, but i think Sa was better..i can't wait for Gta 4!

As someone previously stated, the GTA's got better as they went on, adding features and generally expanding the game. So while part of me says San Andreas because of it's amount of features, the other part of me says Vice City simple because it captured the 80s very well.
i'd say SA as everyone stated earlier why (story, features and etc) but I enjoy it especially on PC due to online :D but i'd also like to say the "GTA GANGSTER WANNABE!" stuff is really old lol that line has been used so many times by people who never played longer then the Los Santos Portion.
