Crash was pretty much their mascot back during the PS1 days. I know, this isn't saying much but nowadays, both Sony/MS don't need such a thing. Mario is and always will be the true Mascot of Nintendo.

I find the whole idea of game mascots silly. Never cared for them even when I was still console-centric.

The only ones who cared about them were the young 'uns.

Maybe he should've had Bonk on the list. I thought he was a great mascot and the games were really fun with awesome gameplay and music. Some may pick him because the platform he was a mascot to has been dead for a long time. I wouldn't choose him though because I really enjoyed the games.

Master chief. He has zero personality, and he is mute to the point other characters have to be playable to simply move the story along because, well, cortana can't do ALL the character dialogue.

@IMAHAPYHIPPO: I've seen people say this before (perhaps you) and no matter how many times you say it it's simply not true. It's the most iconic Sonic level because most Sonic games start with a version of it, but there are better levels, a lot actually.

Personally, I've got to say Nathan Drake, he's not even close to being an original character, he's an Indiana Jones clone/rip off.

I've got to laugh at the people saying Gordon Freeman, he's not a gaming mascot, he's an avatar for the person playing the game and that's why he has absolutely no personality at all. It's the entire reason why you never lose control, even during the talking parts (other characters talking to Gordon or to each other) of the Half Life games, he is you and he has your personality. He does have a background story to explain why he's in Black Mesa but as soon as the game starts it's pretty much moot.

As a fan of Uncharted games, I don't even remember Nathan Drake being Sony's mascot at all. Where the hell you guys get the idea he's a Mascot? Sony's only Mascot was Crash Bandicoot and rarely Parappa the Rapper.

You can simple google it yourself and see that Nathan, Kratos and the gang are considered mascots ... e.g , the exclusive gaming characters unique and marketed on the system (So when you see Sony advertising that shows off a range of games, guaranteed Nathan Drake will appear in it.)

Nathan Drake is the most constant returning Sony character over the last decade, a heavily marketed one at that.

Defining what? Crash was the only Sony's mascot when PS1 was still new to the world and Sony was new to console after the betrayal by Nintendo. Crash just happen to be Sony's mascot at the time when they weren't sure where to go with it. PS2 through PS4, Sony didn't bother with mascots at all and as for Nathan Drake, Sony never ever mention nor advertise him as there mascot. That was Sony's fans did that on there own, not Sony themselves.

Not really. Its usually a mascot if recognized by the public outside of gaming like Mario, Pikachu or Master Chief. Ask someone on the street who Nathan Drake is and barely anyone could tell you. I also dont think Gordon Freeman is a mascot tbh

Uncharted: U1,U2,U3,U4, U:LL (5)

Halo: Halo 3, Halo 4, Halo 5, Halo ODST, Halo Reach, Halo Wars, Halo Wars 2 (7)

Gears: Gears 1, Gears 2, Gears 3, Gears 4, Gears Judgment (5)

God of War: God of War 3, God of War Ascension, God of War 2018 (3)

Gran Turismo: GT5, GT6, GT Sport (3) (and how would GT even have a mascot? A car? thats dumb)

Mario: I dont even want to count them cause I probably wont even have space

Never said they werent milked. One had to be stubborn to not realize that. But the fact they arent as big as every other mascot out there made Sony focus on more than one or two franchises. Mascots are overrated pieces of sh*t that only help the brand recogntion and little else. If Mario Odyssey had another character other than Mario it would still be a great game. As sonic has shown us plenty of times already, a recognizable mascot does not automatically represent a good game.
