Poll Which console flopped the worst - WiiU or Xbox One? (144 votes)

WiiU 70%
Xbox One 23%
Other 7%

This generation it appears as if everyone, except Sony completely flopped. Luckily for Nintendo they have rebounded, though nobody knows what generations the Switch belongs to.

The questions is, which console is the worst in terms of completely flopping?

The king has to be the WiiU. I mean this is one of the worst falls from grace in videogame history. Everything went wrong for this system, from a gimick, to the horrible name, marketing and its lack of games. It is by far one of the worst blunders in gaming history.

Xbox One is just sad, though. It continues to struggle and it appears comical how Microsoft just tries to do everything possible to disrupt them market leader Sony (better hardware and xbox pass), but it just needs to give up and launch a next gen console cause it game ova!

Xbox One by far.

Nintendo didn't even try with the Wii U. It is hard to even call it a bomb. It's like they woke up at 2am the night before the reveal event and just wrote some random crap down on some notebook paper.

What is hilarious about the Xbox One bombing is the COMPLETE AND UTTER SHOCK Xbox fans have had.

The lesson of the Xbox One's bombing in sales is you can't lose marketshare you never had. The Xbox 360's RRoD fiasco and numerous other hardware failures led to tens of millions of duplicate consoles sold to Xbox fans.

Unless Xbox fans go out and buy 3,4,5+ duplicate consoles like they did with the Xbox 360, the Xbox One will continue to bomb in sales.

It isn't some sort of miraculous coincidence that the Xbox One minus the Xbox 360's tens of millions of duplicate consoles magically is almost exactly equal to the first Xbox's worldwide sales.

Make no mistake, MS did lose market share nonetheless. I know many XBOX 360 fanboys that saw the XBOX One for the first time and turned 360 degrees and walked away. The idea that it was a more expensive than an objectively superior piece of hardware only because of some stupid gimmick that never even caught on the first time around. And the controllers need AA batteries. What a disaster.

Wii U was a total flop for damn sure. Xbox One is hardly a failure. Hell, X1X is getting lots of support then what little Wii U got any support.

Credit to Nintendo.

Even with the poor sales for the Wii U, they consistently put out accurate sales numbers for the console.

In terms of sales, you're right, but I think in terms of what fans expected, it was the XBOX One. Sheep were already trying to justify shovelware. The Wii U wasn't a big step down for them.

And even with X1X, MS is still losing to Switch. Fans expected Nintendo to turn the ship around and the Switch is what the Wii U should have been.

Wii U name was really the problem, Xbox One name is hardly better but not as bad as Wii U for confusing causal's alike.

Indeed it is. MS lack of exclusives is really hurting Xbox One. I just find it amusing such a weak hardware Switch could overtake Xbox One X momentum lol.

Any answer other than, one would still be a thing right now if the other one didn't almost **** up everyone elses business model by dropping 150 off its starting price in less than a year is the wrong one. The Xbox One is a predatory console and **** its entire existence for pushing the WiiU to the curb unnecessarily.

Wii U flopped massively worse than Xbox One.

Xbox One's problems are not even remotely comparable to the disaster that was Wii U.

Xbox One is fairly successful, just not on the level of PS4.

Wii U was Nintendo's worst selling home console.

Xbox One is doing better than the original XBOX.

I mean, X1X isn't going to set the world ablaze with sales, but I think it has achieved what it set out to do for the most part. Was intended to be the best multi-plat console, which it is. Even though it fills a relatively small niche.

Any expectations over and above that were just the ranting of a few delusional robot.... er.... I mean lemmings anyhow ;)

What is crazy about people who run to the fake sales numbers at vgchartz.com is how it obvious they don't bother to think if the made up numbers they reading even make sense.

The twenty year old Xbox fan, ioi, who created his little fake sales site got banned from neogaf back in the first year of the Xbox 360 for doing such a bad job making up ridiculously inflated sales numbers for Microsoft. But at least with the RRoD fiasco leading to massive amounts of duplicate consoles, Microsoft was putting out shipment numbers regularly(even if they really were claiming they were actual sales).

With the Xbox One not having the luxury of the RRoD fiasco, Microsoft has been completely silent on worldwide sales. That has given the little kid at vgchartz free reign to go nuts with his fake Xbox One installed base numbers. At least with the Xbox 360 when Microsoft would come out with new shipment numbers, ioi would have to scramble to 'adjust' his fake sales numbers down below the known shipment numbers.

Here's an exercise for people who don't have access to the actual retail sales in Europe and the US:

* Take the know lifetime NPD sales data for the Xbox One

* Subtract it from the fake vgchartz 35 million(or whatever it currently is)

* Subtract the Xbox One Japan sales next. LOL

* That is how many consoles you have to left to account for

Anyone honestly looking at the absurdity of the fake vgchartz Xbox One 'sales' numbers should already have alarm bells going off.

The PS4 has been outselling the Xbox One in Europe in the 6-1 range everywhere except the UK since launch.

Ok, what about Brazil, South Africa, China?

Yeah, not even remotely close enough to reach the vgchartz 'sales' numbers.

Now do the same for the PS4.

You are left with the absurd suggestion that the Xbox One is selling millions of consoles outside of the three major console regions: Japan, the US, and Europe. Of your average fanboy isn't going to bother or the desire to do that simple exercise.

The Xbox One is somewhere in the >25 <30 million range. Which is roughly the same rate the first Xbox sold taking into account the Xbox One has sold for a little bit longer.

Pretty much agreed, many of us saw this coming, the X1X wasn't suppose to overtake the marketshare by any means, it was intended for us gamers that had extra cash lying around and wanted a more powerful system

Oh PLLLEEEAAASE, don't give me that. I remember lemmings claiming X1X would destroy ps4. The godsend of power ready to overtake. In reality, nobody wanted it. Historically console gamers don't care about power, it's all about the experience and games. This is what Microsoft doesn't understand. And making their games multiplat is only hurting them more.

The Wii U suffered from "What the **** can the Wii U do that the PS3 and Xbox 360 can't!?", only to be overwhelmed by the PS4 and Xbox One's respective releases.

However, the Xbox One is still getting all the major multiplatform releases, with some Japanese titles even getting Xbox One ports for localization purposes. The only gripe I have with the XB1 is the fact that publishers don't seem all that keen on making crossplatform games, which would be perfect for SHMUPs, fighters, platformers and co-op shooters (frankly, anything with a co-op mode would work in a cross-platform environment)

'theory'

LOL...

What I love about these types of posts is they actually think I am trying to convince them.

I am laughing at people like you who are so lame they:

* Get their worldwide sales numbers from some twenty year kid who makes them up and types them into his sad and pathetic little fake sales site in hopes they will help his POS failed Xbox console

* Without even the slightest hesitation, clinging to a site claiming the Xbox One has sold half the number of PS4s worldwide

* Demanding PROOF that their fake sales numbers are WRONG

"I believe teh Xbox One has sold 35 million console cuz I want it to be true!!!"

It is clear just how VITAL the fake Xbox sales numbers on vgchartz are to the dwindling number of Xbox deadenders. If any of them stopped and did the simple math that show just how laughably absurd the 35 million number is for the Xbox One there is a very good chance all but the most pathetically hardcore would abandon the turd of a console.

Yep, millions and millions of Xbox fans worldwide magically refused to buy an Xbox One because...

what's the Xbox fan damage control for the Xbox One's failure?

'they were mad about DRM at E3'?

LOL!

The same nitwits who bought every new model Xbox 360 last gen with promises:

* The RRoD fiasco was finally fixed

* The jet engine loud crap cooling system was fixed

* The disc destroying outdated DVD drive was fixed

Millions and millions of those same pathetic Xbox fans were perfectly willing to spend huge amounts of cash on the biggest POS console ever made, the Xbox 360, suddenly developed standards this gen and are refusing to buy the Xbox One.

Yep.

"I laugh at people demanding proof that their fake sales numbers are wrong"... Which came about two posts after;

"Source for your assumed Xbox One worldwide sales numbers?"

?????

Hey, it's a wonderful theory, and I would genuinely like to know if it is true, which is why I asked you to tell us where you found out that all known sales figures for the 360 were skewed, and Xbox one sales figures were faked by vgchartz.

And btw, I couldn't give a crap about how many units console A has sold, some of my best memories have been on commercial flops like the 3do and cd32 ..... I mean, how does it affect you - how old are you?

pretty much all consoles this gen have been a failure.

Wii-u, well everybody knows why

switch, still ancient hardware for a console level product which limits them heavily, if you are not a fan of handhelds thing is practically non existent.

PS4, to weak whch resulted in a mid gen pro launch, as performance is simple dire on that box, and paid online which makes it a uninteresting product.

xbox one, disaster all around. totally alienating everybody with there "tv junk" lots of useless buzzword and expensive. and a expensive mid gen launch for yet another box.

Non of the boxes brought any note worthy innovation towards the table.

Once again lots of talk. No proof whatsoever.

'theory'
