Where does Deathloop Rank among Greatest FPS games list?

Deathloop released last year fall with overwelmingly positive reviews. its one of the most unique and innovative game in recent memory. it play like no other games in past.

so my question is where does it rank among the list of greatest FPS games of all time?

well I dont rate it among the greatest in same league as STALKER, Half life, System Shock 2, Deus Ex, FEAR, Doom and Doom Eternal. but I can rank it after those games easily.

its better than many of old FPS games in past ala Crysis, Bioshock, MOH allied assault etc

the reason is simple, the creative level design which arkane are master of it.

so my friends, where would you rank it among greatest FPS of all time?

Not even in my top 50.

I've had no desire to play it, maybe when it comes to game pass.

I'm more looking forward to playing CoD Cold War single player when that comes to Game Pass since I've heard the story was good.

Was decent a fps, nothing more imo. wouldnt rate I higher than 8/10 tbh same as doom eternal!

it's a bold concept, very stylish, highly polished, and has decent shooting mechanics. but it's very flawed.

the lack of enemy variety and challenging ai is one of the stand out flaws. they don't have personalities, they're just like crash test dummies whose sole purpose is to facilitate the loop (and kill you). and this makes the game locations feel artificial and lifeless.

combined with that, because you loop back and restart at the end of every day, it makes it difficult to care too much about what's happening, it feels more like a playground to go shoot shit in than an authentic game world. and all that takes a real toll on atmosphere, which in turn takes a toll on immersion. and for the masters of the immersive sim, designing the game in that way was a strange choice. it's a million miles away from dunwall or talos 1 in both those areas

Better than Bioshock?

Haven’t played it yet. Might check it out when it hits Game Pass though. However from what I’ve seen of it myself it doesn’t really strike my fancy all that much so I’d probably place it pretty low on my list.

Not really into FPS, but Deathloop looks like one of the more interesting ones. Like a Majora's Mask FPS. Might check it out some day.

Remember watching some videos and it didn't look that interesting but maybe will try it eventually once it's in the bargain bin.

Deathloop is not an all time great, or even close to one. The fact that some gave it a 10 shows you how much of a joke gaming media is nowadays.

But hey, it's at least better than Halo Finite. So there's that.

Call of Juarez Gunslinger, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, MOHAA, Call of Duty 1&2, Wolfenstein: TNO, Half Life 1 and Opposing Force

It was good fun.

Albiet Prey: Mooncrash was a better version of Deathloop than Deathloop was.

I played for like 30 minutes and lost interest… So I wouldn’t rank it very high

I'm amused that someone is still remembering, let alone talking up, a game that somehow did time loop mechanic worse than a 22-year-old Nintendo game and has one enemy type with braindead AI that can be mowed down endlessly with the help of unlimited ammo dispensers.

Not that I needed the laugh today, but I appreciate the the entertainment nonetheless.

Idk. They pulled some timed exclusive bullshit with it and now I don't care enough to play it.

Here's my take on Deathloop. I went from hating it to really liking it during my playthrough. That said, to my sensibilities, it's clearly an 7/10 game despite the lackluster A.I and even by what I would think are "reviewer tastes". Kind of shocked looking back at its reception.

The most likely reason is that Deathloop is just not for you all above is. Many gamers thought it was (surprisingly) fun and good. I wouldn't question certain individual scores (such as the 10/10 scores) or whether or not the total average score is "too high", but a lot of critics and gamers generally thought it was a good game. The personal opinion can be differ from the general public. That doesn't mean that "they" are wrong and neither does it mean that you are wrong. Both opinions are totally viable. So, everything's cool, right? Just play, what you like and you're fine. The issue with Deathloop it got over-exposed advertising that gave it a bias into reviwer's heads and Arkane has yet to make a bad game and this is one of them...except for bad A.I.

Yeah I have high hopes that Nintendo will hold a blow out Metroid event.

Announcing Metroid Prime 4 release date and releasing Metroid Prime 1 Switch port right then and there.

honestly, its a pretty forgettable 6/10-tier game in my eyes. Some interesting concepts, great VO for Colt, but overall its super overrated, mostly due to the awful AI and broken progression curve where you get ever more powerful but enemies don't, and its not like the game is at all difficult to begin with.

there are so many FPS games ahead of it, its not even worth thinking about how it rates overall

Interesting concept but game was dragged down by some questionable AI and poor gun mechanics. I'd give it a solid B but there's little to go back to once completed.

Yes its also better than bioshock. so is Prey which I call true Bioshock game.

only good thing about bioshock is setting, story and Andrew Ryan as one of the best gaming villain.

What's Deathloop?

Good game, great ideas, bland characters/enemies with hardly any replay value. Go in, shoot stuff, repeat.

I've clocked only 4 hours on this on Stream. It's now sitting in my backlog. I'll get back to it eventually. It's a game I'll boot up if I actually have nothing to play.

It's the greatest ps5 game in history. Great job MS on making this masterpiece.

Honestly, I did the same and installed it a few days ago. I decided to go with Xeno 2 on Switch, as i've yet to finish the game and Xeno 3 is out soon.

@Stevo_the_gamer: this game was goty 2021 and is considered widely as one of the greatest ps game in history. Definitely the best ps5 game to date. Fantastic job by MS and arcane studios.

The only positive reviews I’ve seen have been from critics. I haven’t seen an actual gamer praise this. Everyone says it sucked, was meh, average.

Not sure but among Arkane's games I imagine Prey is more my speed. Though I haven't played Deathloop I know rogue-likes are hit and miss for me. Prey also has a rogue-like game mode for its Mooncrash DLC.

Not high at all. Arkane make great games, but this one is def in the overrated sphere.

We are just in an environment atm, where any game resembling a pinch of creativity gets hauled up as Jesus level due to how creatively bankrupt AAA gaming has become. And alot of game journos are kinda bad at their job.

By AAA FPS standards, really hasn't got much competition. Doom, Alyx, couple of others. FPS has been in the shitter for a while now in the AAA market.

When take into account the smaller games popping up on Steam that generally get 0 press coverage e.g. Hedon Bloodrite, Amid Evil, Dusk etc.. those are just far more solid games.

Amid Evil in particular, one of the best FPS played in years. Possibly even better than Shadow Warrior, if such a thing is possible.

And that's excluding legacy titles. Your Dooms, Blood, Duke3D, Hexen: Beyond Heretic, Quake I/II etc.. etc.. etc...

Tis' a good game, but not one we will remember as a big cock. Merely short term praise.
