Poll Where do you rank Spider-Man (PS4) among the best super hero games of all time? (61 votes)

It's Number 1! 28%
Top 3 18%
Top 5 21%
Top 10 11%
Top 25 3%
None of the above 18%

I picked up Spider-Man on the cheap ($16) thinking it wouldn't be anything different from what I've played before. But actually, it's a really good game! I'm about 5 hours in now, and I can tell this is one of the all time greats. Love the controls, the web-slinging action, and the combat. NYC is really done well here too. I'm very impressed with the performance of this game. Right now this game may very well be the best (in my opinion) by the time I'm done with it.

What do you think, SW? Have you played the game yet? Where do you rank it among the best super hero games of all time?

It’s either 1 or top 3.

It’s the best Spider-Man game.

The only other Superhero games worth talking about are the recent Batman Arkham games.

Everything else is trash really.

It's number 1 for me. I enjoyed the Arkham games, but nothing beats Spiderman's traversal and overall feeling. Plus it helps that Spiderman is my fav hero (tied with Dr. Manhattan, if he's even considered a "hero").

Definitely. In the past alot of superhero or comic book games were just low budget cash grabs, all the money went into the license and nothing into developing a quality game. I think a few games that transcended above this (with developers that actually cared) got overhyped a bit just because they were actually "decent".

The 1st two Arkham games were the first two really good Superhero action games, Spider-man does't innovate much on that formula but it takes it and pretty much perfects it in an open world environment on a next gen platform. Becuase Arkham Knight was good, but slightly disappointing for current gen, I'd say Spiderman gets the nod as the GOAT.

... and as great as Spiderman was, there is still a ton of room to improve. The story was good (for a video game), with a great modern gaming presentation, but honestly the villains and boss battles in it were a bit lacking I thought. Hopefully the same dev gets a crack at another one. I was hoping they would do an Iron Man + Spiderman type game or something along those lines, but with Crystal Dynamics taking the full Avengers license for their 2020 game that's not happening. Still, maybe they can do Spiderman 2 and improve upon it.

I would say

1. Batman: Arkham City

2. Spiderman

3. Infamous 2/Second Son (both games tied)

Arkham City still takes the too spot for me. Spidey gets a tie for second with Arkham Asylum in my opinion. Spidey 2 hopefully perfects the formula.

I find it pretty boring. That's what I get for trying to get into a superhero other than Batman. Seriously, superheroes are lame. Thank god the Batman is human and has so many sympathetic villains.

Top 5 for me:

  1. Batman (Genesis)
  2. Arkham City
  3. Arkham Asylum
  4. Marvel's Spider-Man
  5. X-Men (Genesis)
  6. Arkham Origins
  7. X-Men 2 (Genesis)
  8. Maximum Carnage
  9. Spider-Man: The Movie
  10. Spider-Man 2

(If Gravity Rush 2 counts, I'd slot it in at #4, and bump it over Spider-Man as well)

I liked it quite a bit, and got the platinum, but it definitely needed more variety when it came to enemy types and missions. The combat and web-slinging were great though, and this interpretation of Spider-Man is my favorite since the 90's animated series.

I would say that Spider-Man 2018 is the best Spider-Man game for me. The gameplay and missions are very fun, the graphics are great, and I like how well done New York City is. I love how you can stop crime when you are not doing the main missions and saving people. It makes you feel like you're actually Spider-Man.

I'm also playing Batman Arkham Knight for the first time and I hate how empty Gotham City is compared to NYC in Spider-Man which actually has a crowd of civilians in the city. I hope we get a new Batman game in the future that makes Gotham similar to Spider-Man 2018's New York City.

Almost the entire world forgot this game exists. As both a superhero game and parody of the genre, it's amazing.

If we're using such loose criteria, my number one is Gravity Rush Remastered.

@SolidGame_basic:

Definitely number 1.

40 something outfits, awesome DLC, great story, strong web swinging, great exploration and a very deep level up system to boot. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a superhero game this much!

Of all the 20 something Spiderman games I've played over the years -- this one bests them all. It not only rivals Batman Arkham but it mops up the floor with all of them!

Do the x-men legend games count? I’d put this spider-man just below the Batman Arkham games. Playing this spider-man game just made me wish I was playing a Batman Arkham game. The web slinging though, A+.

I assume it’s better than the buttman games since at least Parker can do some fun juggles and positioning matters a bit more in Spider-Man, as it’s non factor in the Arkham games.

Infamous or Freedom Force are probably the best cape shits I’ve played tho.

If fighting games count then it’s Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3.

Probably Top 3 (if we are excluding UMvsC3). I give Batman Arkham Asylum and City an edge but mainly because I'm more of a Batman fan than a Spiderman fan. Spiderman 2018 was better than I thought it would be and I enjoyed it more than a lot of other Sony games.

It definitely destroys Arkham Knight.

Didn't like it that much. Mechanics were solid, story was good but wanted it to be over a couple hours before I finished it.

Hoping they incorporate Symbiote suit and/or Venom in a big way for the next one. No more Mary Jane sections ffs.

It's probably tied with Arkham Knight on the list, which also dragged on too long.

Probably would put Arkham City and the PS3 Infamous games over it. Also liked Sunset Overdrive more then all the above games.
