Nintendo only gives out shipped numbers, so considering the Wii U is sitting in stores ignored by every consumer now, the actual sold consoles between X1 and Wii U are alarmingly close at this moment.
MK8 will not turn things around or keep Nintendo ahead. It will boost sales a bit and that's it. The difference between the Wii and Wii U is that the casuals really wanted the Wii and bought lots of games.
The Wii U is a $300 purchase centered on that overhyped tablet controller that won't even be used much in MK8 anyways. And what about upcoming games like SSBU and Bayo 2? Hardly used there either.
So those who haven't bought the Wii U by now - you expect them to rush out in the hundreds of thousands to pay $300 just for MK8 and last-gen HD graphics? What was stopping them before from buying a Wii U considering it had this "huge library" and "free online and BC"??
They don't care and it's time to axe this console and move on. Despite the name, the Wii U has more in common with the GCN than the Wii. Nintendo is back to their old dumb habits and are experiencing the same exact results from 10 years ago. No surprise why
