Well, rumors seem to indicate in September MS will drop the 360 with a 120GB HDD to $299.99 and make the Elite the Pro

what happens to the Arcade? It seems they will keep it going, with its 512MB flash memory (As much as the wii)

but do they keep it at $200 and have a 360 with 120GB only $100 more?

I'd think maybe they could drop the Arcade anywhere between $130-$180. That would really be a good price point going into the holidays.

I imagine they will just not have a 60GB anymore, Ars Technica is the source of these rumors that were reported last month btw

What do you think their price strategy will be come September?

I'd like to see something like a 20 or 40gb (perhaps the 60gb) moved to the $200 range, and the arcade at $150 maybe.

I would just prefer that they would drop the Arcade model all together & have the Pro model at $200 & the Elite model at $300, with Jasper chips inside of them.

They should stick to a $200 bottom line and make sure that unit has a HDD, any HDD. The current arcade model is a joke for anyone into gaming and not into an ultimate casual experience.

I hope its permanently removed and the Pro takes its place. It's funny how many people use this as ammo here but would never buy the system

A Pro for 199 would be awesome!

Just these two from now on.

you guys act like arcade buyers aren't gamers for buying it for its lowly 512MB flash storage

They still get to enjoy most of 360 great games, which alone is enough to warrant the purchase.

believe it or not some people still don't care about the other things an additionall HDD offers, call them crazy.

Plus, people are buying Arcades coz they mostly come with Jasper where as some Pros are known to still come with Falcon and the Elites are coming with Falcon/Zephyr, esspecially the GOTY bundles

i believe the $100 60GB HDD comes with 3 months of XBL, where as a 60GB HDD 360 itself comes with 1 month free

so buying an arcade, and a separate 60GB HDD actually nets you 2 more free months of XBL

Its tough to say because if they add a hard drive to the arcade, what would be the big pull to drop another $100 on the Elite?

Yea, but they again they had 60GB of difference between their $300 and $400 models for this last year

so maybe they think 100GBs of difference will get some customers to spend the extra $100

i'd think they need to keep the arcade cheap, 360 needs more casuals, as casuals turn into core gamers (not all of them but some of them) and the 360 has a lot of software that can easily sell to non-gamers whether we realise it at first or not, and i've always thought the 360 really didn't sell as much as it should

great console, with great games, great services, yet 30 million units in 3 years? thats solid i know, it just seems that more new gamers have come into this gen for Wii, but that a lot of old gamers from PS2 and last gen still haven't jumped into any current gen console, PS3. 360, or Wii.

For example, my older bro who i'm buying a 360 for soon. 4 years and he still hasn't replaced his PS2.

They should just match the PS3's standards by making the HDDs interchangeable with PC ones, or by making larger HDDs overall (like, say, 320 GB capacity). Darn money suckers. If the Elite goes down to $300, then I'll be pretty disappointed, since my most recent 360 console purchase was just 6 months ago.

Sorry dude but you still got argueable the best console on the market for a price it is totally worth. I'd just check to see if your 360 use 150 watts of power, that way you know its a Jasper and has less chances of breaking

You cant really control these kinds of things, i know its a bummer but you still bought a great console for a price it was worth.

I'd be happier if they just added WiFi to the 360, so backwards in 2009 that a console doesn't. i wouldn't buy a new one for just internal wifi, but still it should be there

(although you can make your 360 wifi with a wireless PC and a cable for no cost)

What exactly do you think the Arcade SKU is for? It's supposed to be a low-volume SKU, primarily targeted at those who only want the basic 360 experience and/or cannot afford the more expensive SKUs. Furthermore, an Arcade+HDD is more-or-less the same price as the Pro anyway.

Back on topic, I would expect it to receive a modest $20-30 price cut. Anything larger really doesn't make sense -- the Arcade is already the cheapest console on the market, and I'm sure MS wants to avoid raising the price when the Arcade+Natal SKU releases.

I too think it may getting a cut as low as $169.99

then they can say for the price of a Nintendo DS, PSP you can get a 360.

i'm thinking they could give it a 20GB HDD (as MS was selling 20GB HDD refurbs last fall to arcade buyers for $20)

but i'm thinking its more likely they push the arcades storage from 512MB flash to 1GB or 4GBs. 2GBs probably. if they change it at all.

they could do this though

Arcade with 512MB $179.99, 60GB $229.99, 120GB for $299.99

I wonder if some space is reserved for their big new update and not available to users. Maybe tha's why it still says 256 ? I don't really know.

Agreed. I would love HDDs in all SKUs of both HD consoles. I always thought MS made a brilliant decision putting a HDD into every XBox, and was amazed they switched gears this gen.

I feel bad for Sony, unless this PS3 Slim is a lot cheaper to make ( i would bet even if it costs like $300 it will still be sold at $400 for a profit, they need it) that they just can't win this holiday.

GOW3, GT5, all .coming out next year will be good for it, but this fall has Uncharted 2, and Ratchet (ratchet 10 or something?) and MAG i think.

all sounds good, but going into the holidays with a 160GB console at $400 and Xbox having a 120GB for $300 just seems unfair. Poor Sony. They can't get ahead

Elite $300

Arcade $99

Gta3-fan334

i dunno, i knw the arcade is profitable (from what i've heard) but i don't know if its that profitable.

if they can turn a profit on a $100 arcade, then what does the wii cost? $2?

DS must cost then like, -$50 to make then

But the more i think about it, arcade will prolly stay at $200, maybe get 1GB of memory or so, but that will be it

I hear ya. I think i may want to upgrade to 120GB sometimes, but i see no reason than maybe adding my computer content to it, but honestly i'm scared to use my 360 that much (it is falcon). so i just use my laptop for vids, PS3 for BR, laptop for music

the first time i owned a 360 ( in fall 2007) i used it for everything, music, movies, games, all sorts of stuff, and i got RRoD twice in a few months (it came back, started to work again then RRoD again) and i sold it for my PS3. i love my PS3 , but i regreted selling that 360 even with its problems coz i'm a gamer, and i got to play me some games and 360 has games i want so i got another one, for free actually from a friend.

Just be happy you have Jasper

I figured the best option would be to cut out the Arcade version & drop the 60GB Pro to $199 & Elite to $299. They could then set up a good deal with remaining Arcade consoles to sell out the stock, say like $129.

you would think that because it would be the best deal for the consumer but the way they are doing it they only have to produce one hdd the 120 and the economy of scale on it means they can crank out 120gbs way cheaper than making two different hddswhile also getting a $149.99 advertising price

320GB HD good lord, the 120GB HD is way too much for me. I upgraded from the 20GB to the 60GB for $60.00 & I'll never fill that thing up as I've got 6 games installed and still have almost half left with game saves since early 2006.

Someone, a few weeks ago, said MS should simply ditch the Arcade and have:

  • $299 - 120gb Elite
  • $199 - 60gb Pro

There, simple as that. And a sweet deal for those who haven't bought one yet.
