When did you realize that the PS4 was the best choice for gaming this gen?

When I played horizon zero Dawn and i realized that this was ultra level PC graphics for a fraction of the price lol

playing Spiderman and GOW being completely immersed at the pure quality of the games.

while still having all the amazing multplats like RDR2 and DMC5. the ps4 has satisfied all gaming needs i have.

PC is the best choice every gen.

However, I realized PS4 was the 2nd best choice after watching Microsoft's E3 Xbone conference. Switch wasn't out yet.

Being a big fan of xbox 360, I looked forward to the next Microsoft console. As soon as the xbox one was revealed, I realized that I didn't want anything to do with it. I needed a no-nonsense console and PS4 was the obvious choice. Until Dawn and later the Yakuza series convinced me that the PS4 was the right choice this gen. However, I don't agree with you that Horizon looks THAT amazing. Great indeed, but those graphics don't compare to an expensive PC.

As a fan of racing games the PS4 hasn't satisfied any of my needs. So I have realised that I don't need one as its far from the best, in fact its the worst :)

Ps4? It sits in a cupboard, in the spare room. I got it out for Spiderman, which didn't live up to the hype. I'll get it out for last of us 2 - I suppose - but other than that it's been a very mixed experience.

It's been my least used console since 3do. At least that had Return Fire.....

Entirely subjective. For me the “best choice” is the Xbox One because of my preferences for games and platform features. Second best is the Switch and the third is PS4. Those three platforms are all I currently desire. I have the first two so now I just need a PS4 and I’ll be good until the next gen systems come out of course.

Never, I still use my Xbox1x way more than my PS4, a couple of OK PS4 games makes no difference.

The exclusives alone on the PS4 is enough for it to be my favorite. I never really enjoyed multiplatform games.

My preferred console is the X.

Yes there are more games and more exclusives on the PS4, but games like the Witcher 3, RDR2, the Division 1&2, Far Cry 5 run substantially better on the X than the Pro.

So I have still to realise why the Pro is the best choice, perhaps when The Last of Us Part 2 is out, I might change my mind.

But Xbox one has no good exclusives despite a shitty racing game.

Pc is the best choice for me, but an Xbox One S bunlded with Gears of War 4 + 1 month Gold free at €150 was a heck of a deal, so I ended up buying one yesterday and loving the GamePass feature a lot. Also the Play Anywhere feature is neat.

I'll buy a PS4 down the line when it's less expensive.

I'm not loyal to any brand, but every time ps offers what I prefer gaming wise. I don't buy a console unless there is at least 5 games I want to play.

That's why I can't buy what Nintendo or Microsoft offers. I like Pokemon and Forza horizon (not the regular Forza) looks pretty good, but they are just one franchise that I won't die if I never play again.

Also I just love the DualShock controller so even if there wasn't exclusive I wanted to play I would go with the PS brand.

I knew the PS4 was the best choice the day Sony announced PS9.

The moment when MS went completely out of their ways and picking up PS4 was the logical choice.

(But I did however got an Xbox One a year later when MS ditch Kinect and affordable price but now, it's in my daughter's room)

When I played uncharted 2 on ps3.

Hell hasn't frozen over. So, PC is still the best gaming platform.

I only use mine for a few PS4 exclusives so it isn't for me. Where my friends play will always be the best place to play.

Mine goes back in the box after exclusives. It looks too sad when the dust starts to settle on it.

When Xbone was announced it looked to be a disaster, also the last few years of the 360 from an exclusive perspective were terrible.

Meanwhile PS3 was on a steady rise to the end.

When it was clear it had the most “must play” games, in quantity and quality. But then after I did I went back to PC to play the multiplats.

There has never been any point where I thought that the PS4 was the best, far from it. I think it's by far the worst console of this generation for my tastes and it mostly collected dust during the years that I owned it.

Of course, I never expected it to be the best in the first place since I prefer Nintendo's exclusives and I always prefer to play multiplats on Xbox due to it's better controller, online service, and features. However, I at least expected the PS4 to deliver a handful of exclusives that I would enjoy to justify my purchase just like every previous Playstation console had done, but it failed to even deliver that. Sony got way too obssessed with movie-games this generation and forgot about satisfying the gaming needs of someone like me that doesn't care for movie-games or JRPGs.

Best console you mean? I'm sure you could propose some value proposition in favor of consoles, but PC is still more capable.

Anyway I realized around launch, and I feel I was vindicated when I bought a PS4 right before the release of Bloodborne. This game started the gen.

I haven’t come to this conclusion at all. The ps4 lacks good racing and shooting games which I adore. Also multiplayer lacks for the system - another aspect of gaming I prefer.

The ps4 has faults and isn’t for everyone. Just like the Switch, PC, or Xbox for some. It all comes down to preferences.

Haven't owned a PC in more than a decade. Haven't gotten around to buying a Switch yet, but I might.

Of the other two, I use my Xbox 95% of the time and I have 3 of them: launch, slim, and 1X. I have a launch PS4 and I like some of the games, notably HZD.

I think the PS4 unit and tech is great in general, but I hate the controller and I prefer Live (though maybe that is mostly because I am more familiar with it).

So I use my Xbox for everything except the occasional Sony exclusive and because I have 3 of them I can do so even when the wife and daughter are using the primary entertainment rooms in the house.

The PlayStation family has had more third party games that i liked since the original PlayStation and that is still the case, until that changes I will go with them.

PC is my #1 system, but as far as consoles go, it was E3 2013 when Microsoft fucked up, and then in early 2017 with the releases of Gravity Rush 2, Yakuza 0, Nioh, and Persona 5.

That's the dumbest thing I've read so far today.
