San Andreas, Vice City, III
Whats your TOP 3 GTA games?
1. Vice City
2. Vice City
3. Vice City
They have never been able to capture the fun and the magic of Vice City again.
Only played Vice City, 3 & 4, and can honestly say they all suck.
So they'd be my top 3, just top 3 shittiest lol.
GTA San Andreas, Vice City, and GTA III
Honorable mention goes to GTA IV for it's story and world, but being a complete pain in the ass to run on PC.
Kinda tough to pick 3 but I guess
San Andreas (this one's an easy choice)
Ballad of Gay Tony
5 for GTA online only, if we're talking single player only I'd pick Vice City
GTAIV, III, SA.
On vice city front, I prefer to play VC stories, because its just more playable. It has same controls as SA, whereas original VC has those horrid controls that make you wanna kill yourself. In III those archaic controls were ok, because the mission structure was easier, but VC.... Argh!
1. GTA
2. Chinatown Wars
3. GTA2
the topdown GTA games were more fun than boring overrated 3 to onwards.

For me, I liked the gameplay of the top down ones more. I don't like the story, graphics or gameplay of the 3D games. They feel sluggish and messy to me, whereas the top down ones feel precise and fast. And for some reason, I had zero interest in the missions and the character I was playing as in the 3D games. It's a bit hard to explain, but the 3D games bore me. They're slow and clunky, as opposed to the fast and arcadey top down games.

Totally the opposite for me. I loved the top down ones at the time but they felt very limited and repetitive. The driving controls were awful and the shooting mechanics were bad as you could barely see the bullets being shot at you. I don't remember them being sharp and precise at all.

GTA games have terrible shooting. but but they are not shooter
they have terrible driving. but but they are not just driving games
they have terrible story and characters. only good thing is world which is alive and breathing.
otherwise GTA is most overrated series in gaming history.

Opinions are awesome. Have you tried Chinatown Wars? It's like they took everything I loved about the first two GTAs and did everything much better. I really want another one of those. I agree that the driving controls took a while to get used to in the first two games, but when you did get used to it, it was precise imo. Just really fast.

Yeah I played CTW on DS and iPhone. It was okay, but the top down style still feels pretty limited imo. Although not nearly as limited as the early ones and I spend along time on all of those games.
I'd take GTAV over any of them any day of the week.
Each to there own though and all that.
GTA 3
GTA 5
GTA 4
GTA 3 I had an endless amount of time on, first my friend had it on PS2 and I just could not believe the scale of the world and how much you can actually do in the game. Eventually I got it for PC and played it for hundreds of hours, ended up modding it after I was bored just for various custom skins, vehicles etc.
GTA 5 was fun for it's multiplayer. Various game modes, and it had an editor which was pretty cool.
GTA 4 was kind of boring but eh, didn't really play too much of the other GTAs.
