Mine's Yakuza series. I really enjoy the free roaming the streets of tokyo while exploring side/sub quests , eating at the various eatries, doing mini games , visiting the hostess clubs and doing tons of other stuff.I revel in its sight as well. I try to get to get Beads of good fortune asap by completing its requirement, so i encounter less enemies to fight and enjoy what tokyo streets got to offer more.

Whats your most favourite open world game?

Please share.

Thanking everyone in advance.

I felt Odyssey's side mission structure was super repetitive, you should try Valhalla as its side quests are way more varied.

Will pick Valhalla up when it's around the £20 mark. Yeah, Odyssey's mission got a bit samey but the combat carried me through the 80+ hours I played. Loved it.

Only 80hrs, i put double that into Odyssey and was sick of it by the time i was done. For me the only thing Odyssey does better is that there are ship battles, and there's none in Valhalla which was a big disappointment for me.

Actually I don't know. The last time an open world game truly engrossed me was GTA San Andreas back on PS2 or GTA IV on PC. I have hundred of hours into MGSV this gen so its probably that game over candidates Witcher 3 (quit the game upon reaching Skellige Islands) and BoTW (Ass Creed reskin).

That game where you play as a gunslinger in the wild west of late 19th century. Robin' people, robin' trains, killin' rabbits indiscriminately. Has a very authentic feel to it. My only gripe, you can't do any whoring.

As everyone knows I love open-world games and as such, I'll list the one's I enjoy the most:

  • Witcher 3
  • Assassin's Creed: Odyssey (I don't wanna hear your excuse hardwenzen)
  • Watch Dogs
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Grand Theft Auto V
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Horizon: Zero Dawn
  • Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • Ghost of Tsushima
  • Batman Arkham knight
  • Assassin's Creed: Black Flag
  • Assassin's Creed: Origins
  • Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

Edit: It's a tie between Red Dead Redemption 2 & Witcher 3...so I'm not picking my all time favorite.

After all these years, I'd still say Morrowind. It's a haunting and engrossing world, with factions and role playing that feel personal and meaningful. I still play it off and on and with the right mods it can look pretty gorgeous while still authentic

Skyrim and Horizon Zero Dawn come to mind. Skyrim just has that go anywhere, explore anything wanderlust. The base game is a solid 7, but mods turn it into a masterpiece.

As for Horizon Zero Dawn, it just panders to me very specifically. It's as if Guerilla Games took a big list of things I find viscerally appealing (sci-fi, archery, redheads, etc.) and smashed them all together into a single game.

The ones I've enjoyed the most on their own merits (i.e. without mods):

  • GTA: Vice City
  • Saints Row 2 (although I think Steelport is a better map)
  • Far Cry 3

Another one for the Yakuza series which realises that less is more in terms of acreage.

Series like Assassin's Creed and GTA/RDR seem to think that making the map bigger and bigger makes the game better - which it doesn't. And Rockstar really need to add the quick travel option and not the ham-fisted one in RDR2.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Fun game throughout as opposed to pretty much all other open world games where you've seen everything after about 20 hours and just repeat shit.

Man.. there are so many good open worlds. I tend to feel as though survival games do open world the best though since just about anywhere you go can be utilized to build or get resources though... so at this point I would say perhaps Ark, Conan Exiles, or Atlas which will likely change to Rust since that will be getting the vast majority of my playtime soon.

Depends, GTA style kind of open world game, RDR2. The immersive sim, Prey (2017). GaaS, Division 2.

Nothing at the moment. I was enjoying a solid BotW run a little while ago, and that's about as open-world as you can get. I need to get back and beat Ganon... I already completed the 4 Divine Beasts.

If I had to pick one I'd easily go with Breath of the Wild. Rarely has an open-world been so well crafted and there's just something about that world that makes you want to explore every nook and cranny. Definitely set some standards for future games to me.

Huh interesting on Yakuza choice, lots of people choose that game/series. I'm really tuned out of Kamurocho as I've been visiting that place since PS2 days, like 9-10 games all based on that small, cramped map that I just can't seem to remember which alley I'm supposed to go and mahjong minigames scares the living shit outta me. Glad many enjoying the series though.
