The Defiled Watchdog of the Old Lords in Bloodborne comes to mind. That's one bad mamma jamma.

What about you guys?
Don't know about hardest but killzone 2 end boss was a frustrating one.
I remember that. Stupid fight. Just endless waves.
Ixion in returnal. Its not the toughest boss but more like the first true boss of the game and forces me to learn the mechanic of the game.

Always loved bullet hell games and the different attack patterns of the bosses is just fantastic in Returnal.
@nod_calypse: All time? Either Mike Tyson (Punchout) or Dracula (Castlevania).
Modern? I guess that Nameless King in Dark Souls III. Still, you young gamers have it easy - the hardest games today are just average in difficulty compared to the 80s and 90s.
Lol, not exactly a young gamer, myself. And yeah, Nameless King is tough, but weirdly I didn't have that much of a problem. Awesome boss, though.
Why would it be anything else than these two on gmgow? If you know you know. Between the two, Sigrun is probably a bit more difficult, but only because the tools to kill her are nowhere near as strong as they're in Ragnarok. These two are also so much more difficult than all the Fromsoft bosses. I do wish Fromsoft had one or two bosses per game with this many different attacks animations that spams them randomly, so its impossible predict what's next.
Ornstien and Smough come to mind immediately... As does Javier Jaguar in Guacamele.... Truly brutal, relentless masters of slaughter.
Old school talk, but beating mega man 1,2 and 3 presented some incredible challenge having to best every boss AND Dr. Willey on a few lives. It's hard enough just to get to that point let alone the final challenge.
Just about any of the notoriously overtuned input reading fighting game bosses. Shits not even fun, doesn't even feel rewarding. Basically just scrape through feeling like you got lucky is all.
Recent years, would say some of the Nioh games optional bosses had me hitting continue a lot.
When I see this question though, Ninja Gaidens Alma comes to mind. First time playing that game (on normal), thought I was hard stuck. Don't know the real count, but felt like I continued 100 times lol. Though eventually I could beat her on Master Ninja mode without getting hit. But as a first time deal, that one always sticks out to me.
The final boss in Gears of War on the hardest difficulty. I remember raging on that guy.
The RAAM last boss? Lol i remember raging at him as well, even in coop😁
@brimmul777:
You joke, but I remember thinking SMB1 was tough lol. Pretty sure it was the first game I ever beat. Most stuff I played up to that point didn't have "endings" in the traditional sense.
But yeah, if I didn't have fire power going into 8-3, might as well hang it up. Otherwise rekt by hammer bros.
Then again, was 6 at the time. Quickly started adjusting to harder games after that.
@ConanTheStoner: lol,I know you knew I was kidding. But the truth is I haven’t completed lots of games in my time. When I was younger I completed games quite often, but not recent years. Getting older and my gaming interests have changed over time. Been gaming since very early 80’s,late 70’s. Just recently I completed Dead Space Remake, but on regular difficulty and could have put it up a notch easily without having any trouble. I mainly play multiplayer games now, even though I’m not a pro. Gamers today are really skilled,I just don’t have it in me anymore.
@brimmul777:
Yeah I hear that on beating more games when you were younger. Games were shorter (often a good thing). Typically had more time and even more drive to put up with crazy challenges. Probably had less games too, kinda had to commit to whatever games you got.
And yeah, the skill ceiling for gaming has gotten way crazier. More ppl playing = greater competition. Able to play a wide variety of players at any time, sharpens skills. And just how quickly knowledge is found and shared now. Be it speedrunning, combo mads, competitive online, etc. Anyone can easily see what the optimal strats are now.
Malenia from Elden Ring immediately springs to mind.
Yeah, I heard "I am Malania, Blade of Miquella" so many times that I ended up having nightmares lol. I went in completely blind and definitely wasn't expecting her to be as hard as she was. Was unaware of her reputation before spending an entire week getting destroyed.
It's between her and Dullahan from Golden Sun who is just about impossible in a conventional fight.
Special shout outs to Ruby Weapon from FFVII
Nemesis from RE3MAKE on Bullshit-I mean Inferno difficulty
Ultima Weapon in FFVIII
Ornstein & Smough in Dark Souls 1
The badass Merchant from Bravely Default.
and Sword Saint Isshin in Sekiro

Bad tells and crap camera, that's Sigrun in a nutshell.
MMO's are a bit of a cheat but it's this one:

I don't know about all that. She is aggressive, and uses a bunch of different moves randomly. Tells are there, its just hard to not mess up for so long. Not sure what you're referring to about the camera issues. Did you have trouble following her because of her fast movement? Cuz i don't recall having any camera issues on this fight.
Never played that, think played like 10 min 5 years back. In concept using the force to crash a Imperial Star Destroyer sounds awesome, but they somehow made it look really boring.
Reminds me of that time I had to force battle a space ship
Never had to wrestle controls this sodding much in a game
Fire Giant first time on Elden ring was a nightmare for me, first time clearing Oryx was also a challenge in D1, there's plenty really but often the difficulty is a lack of mechanical familiarity than "hard"
I thought Fire Giant was awful, too. And I just didn't find that boss all that fun to fight either. Just tedious for me.

few of the attacks have tells way too similar to each other, losing lock on for no fucking reason and the over the shoulder camera doesn't fit the fight
@nod_calypse: Cancer ultimately did it, but she was challenging nevertheless.
My moms got that, but she beat it.
Sorry for your loss, bro.
@nod_calypse: Thanks. I joke but those were terrible times.
I'll bet. Seeing my moms all f**ked up definitely did a number on me. I was a little kid. She looked like a monster, worse than any movie. No joke.

Only something that bothered me at the beginning of the game.
