What's the best female design of this generation thus far?

SFV Menat is really well designed

- All her moves are ridiculously fluent dance animations that embarrass Netherrealms low quality

- She's a lady of color (RARE)

- They managed to sexualized her without being offensive

- Other things

Are there any other character designs specific to this generation that stand out as something special?

I thought that Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider reboot and Rise of the Tomb Raider was really well done.

I could see if they pandered to all males by making them curvy as all hell with the perfect boob to waist to hip ratio(because what male doesn't like that), but how do you make your video game character specifically cater to a race?

Dunno about best, but I think Ana's design in Overwatch is fantastic. Also love the designs of Kat from Gravity Rush and Demi from Super Cloudbuilt.

Menat is definitely awesome. One of my favorite female designs this gen as well.

I also like Aloy's design as well as Ciri and Yennefer.

Lara from TR reboot is also cool but I'm not too happy with her boob reduction.

Im not a fan of fighting games like street fighter so its the first time I have seen Menat and she is awesome.

Too bad this costume is only available in the story mode of Tekken 7.

I third that, now that she was mentioned. Funny, she wouldn't have come to mind unless someone mentioned her. But yeah after thinking it over, I feel she is the best. Unique, artistic look; great voice; excellent character; and a truly unique, enjoyable game.

I have been trying to learn to draw better recently and realised I didn't know how to draw women so practised a load now all my characters are coming out female but I digress.

I was actually trying to draw the sexiest women I could and what I found was that it's so tempting to just draw massive tits on everyone (see DeviantArt) before I realised they weren't really sexy and tried to draw realistic boobs and it was difficult!

But I soon realised that the sexiest women I drawn were sext because of their expressions and the placement of eyes, nose etc on the face and most importantly the jawline and head shape.

But mostly it was if I could put a personality into the character, via careful eye, eyebrow and lip positioning that the character really leapt out the page and made all the others look juvenile and silly by comparison.

That's one of the things I like about her as a character in TW3, she isn't over-sexualised and is just a downright badass.

@MBirdy88 Is interesting to see how the first Soul Calibur and the fourth her boobs have literally doubled in size. At least Lara Croft got a boob reduction but I do think the new Lara looks a bit uninspired compared to the original.

@uninspiredcup: Aloy, from HZD. I actually found the sci fi aspect of who she actually was to be a pretty cool reveal, and explained very well why she was so technologically inclined.

Ciri would probably be a close second, but she didn't really register with me, having already read the books before playing TW3, so I already had a pre-baked opinion formed.

I’ve seen it a million times. Any attempt to humanise or desexualise female characters or criticise the status quo is routinely met by a barrage of angry little boys, loving their privileged position just a bit too much.

@jackamomo: I don't mind playing a game with a beautiful female and I didn't mind playing HZD with average looking Aloy (my favorite game of this gen BTW). I don't think it's necessary the dark ages to play a game with a good looking female. If I'm honest, most games with customizable male characters, I want a muscular built dude too.

@todddow: yeah but choosing sexy characters is just a physical look. What is important is how characters are portrayed and what their personality is. If there is no option for none muscly guys or curvy girls I would feel short changed as I don’t fetishise the human body like so many others.

What is offered to kids to consume may well have an effect on the psyche of maybe more suggestible types and if all the tropes are a certain way, maybe that could have a more wide ranging impact on society as a whole.

I'm not sure if I've diverted this topic to a completely different one about gender stereotypes (again) and made everyone too scared to post or just if no-one can if think of a female character given they are all so interchangeable from a list of roughly 2 personality types.

Ivy from Soul Calibur could be any one of the characters from Street Fighter 5. Capcom has alot to answer for. SNK on the other hand should be commended for it's wide range of personality types, genders and body types. Also, King of Fighters I3 is the best fighting game ever made.

I digress.

This is a highly volatile issue because gamergate was never resolved. It was a campaign of hate against women lead by a spurned lover who leveraged latent sexism is some to try to act as salve to his wounded pride.

The male internet jumped on it and it was very ugly.

So nothing changed and we got Harley Quinn. Oh well, feminism.
