What would you rather have: Power vs Shorter load times?

I would rather have the shorter load times promised by Sony over marginal performance gain. Long load times are the worst parts about console gaming, much worse than low frame rate and there's no denying that. I'm happy that Sony chose to focus on one aspect of console gaming that has been over a decade behind PC gaming.

How about good games? I feel like this is a constantly overlooked feature in the console wars.

I feel like Nintendo's strategy that they adopted back in 2007 with the Wii of developing super fun gaming experiences instead of trying to make huge leaps in graphics with each new console is finally showing that it has longer financial legs than the race to the top of the graphics mountain that Sony and Microsoft went at full throttle.

No ty. If Xbone taught me anything from this gen is that videogames actually suck and the only thing there's room to improve on is sharper image quality and frames.

Well the Xbox Series X will also have significantly shorter load times also so I guess that I’ll got with that. 🤷‍♂️

Shorter loading time is my prefer choice and since I get both worlds on PC, owning the most powerful console doesn't benefit me anyways, so shorter load times is the logical choice :)

The power difference won't be huge and the difference in loading times won't be either, it's not like Sony are using an SSD and Series X will have a conventional hard drive or anything.

Judge them both on the games, always the games, unless you're some kind of asshat fanboy.

Ugh I guess you forgot the series X also has SSD for storage too. So you also get fast loading times and more power. Maybe you should understand how hardware works before posting crap.

I'd take reducing significantly (compared to hdd) and more power over reducing speed more significantly and less power

I'm betting there will be very little actual meaningful difference between the consoles. This only becomes a problem if somehow the more expensive console ends up being the weaker one again, i.e. base Xone vs base PS4.

In terms of this choice... I think I'd rather have load times be super short. Especially for something where you have to reload frequently, like Bloodborne.

MS is giving people both.

I love how load times are all of the sudden a major talking point. PC players have been enjoying playing games on SSD for years and console players downplayed it. Now consoles are finally getting SSDs as standard and it is a big thing. Console players are all excited for ray tracing now too.... LOL

So... I think it's safe to say, get the system that has the games you prefer. If someone follows that advice, they'll have a great generation.

I'll always choose power. Power doesn't make a good game, but it makes a good game better. I can wait a few more seconds for a game to load, the time to wait vs the benefit to the game ratio isn't even questionable in my mind. Give me more silicon.

Will be interesting to see how good the loading screens are. I absolutely despise the loading screens in most games.

Sony promises 15 second cut scenes to take 0.8 seconds.
