But Edge are just random and sometimes ridiculous, as shown by their recent 5/10 for FFXIII. It's anyone's guess.

Yeah that's my point. I really think they are pathetic and shouldn't be taken seriously at all. But I feel that they'll be a little bit more logical and actually be impressed by this game. I mean they already said in the Bayonetta review something about God of War, DI, and NG having to go back to the drawing board. I picked that they'd give this a 9. Also, wow I didn't know that they gave GoWII a 7 only... that's absolutely ridiculous considering that II was better in everything: graphics, puzzles, bosses, brutality, story, music, combat, and lasting appeal...
It's not even about overrating games. They just are incompetent in rating games. You'll get more value out of just reading their review, but even there they have sometimes have a bunch of junk in their reviews

The text itself however,I´d say that some of the best reviews I´ve ever read came from them.
Edit: I think this is a mentality thin at the end of the day. European reviewers are know to be harsh(EDGE,Eurogamer,PC gamer).
Thing is,in Europe,a 6 or a 7 is seen as a good score,while in the US it seems that just about everything that scores below 8 is poopoo.
EDGE is for game industry professionals, not consumers. Reviews are not based on the same standards as they are in consumer reviews.

They write them from a more detached and impartial perspective, and also their reviews represent more absolute view on games with a historical perspective in mind. Basically they don't care if their scores will encourage or discourage customers. They just want to be consistent with their own rating and hierarchy system

Why would game industry professionals care about reviews? They're not fanboys, they probably don't have masses of time to even play games, I imagine they just play what they like the look of.
