I was just wondering what system brought YOU into the gaming industry and why. For me, it was the Atari (ya, the original) because i got it for free off of a relative and spent many of my younger years (ages 5-6) playing it.

The NES for me. I don't regret not playing the Atari first, looking back Atari games are virtually unplayable messes. It comes of no surprise to me that the market dived during Atari's reign.

SNES. The first game I played was Duck Hunt on the NES.

I think my first PC was a 286 or 386/33 with Gorillas and Nibbles.

I don't think anyone regrets playing the Atari neither. It's not like there was a higher standard console (nor that you cared as a kid) until the NES came out. Asteroids, Moon Patrol, Kangaroo, Deep Scan, Scuba Diving Pole Position etc.

Good times.

Atari 400 in 1982. My dad came home from work and surprised me and my sibs with it. Obviously like most kids with surprises, we were at awe, yet overjoyed.

Missile Command FTW!!

It's not like I haven't played these games. I don't recall any then or now being "good times", maybe slight above average times, but that's about it. To each his/her own though.

I remember leaving my parents Atari 2600 on all night without a cartridge in it once. They took it back to Sears and promptly got a replacement.

I bet a lot of people don't even remember the days when Sears sold video games.

 Yeah, it was definitely flooded with trash, but games like Pitfall and River Raid made things okay.

My first system was an Oddessey. This was in 1982 or so, when the Atari days were in full swing. My brother and I weren't impressed, because all we could do on it was play Pong. A few years later, my dad bought an Atari 800XL with a cassette drive after the video game crash. We had a lot of fun playing Qix and some of the games on cassette tape on a truly ancient 20" TV in the basement. I remember going to the swap meet and picking through stacks and stacks of games for a quarter each.

I grew up in NYC. I've seen a few Famicoms before in the 80s. Back when small time independent botiques were how you got games and stuff for your Master Systems and TurboGrafx 16s. Because all of the big retailers were usually 100% Nintendo. A lot of these dealers in NYC dealt with imports like the Famicom Disk Drive and such.

Then it should have said NES/Famicom instead of having them as seperate entries. Sony should be on the list instead, just because with the way some of the cows in SW act, you KNOW the Playstation was their first system.

Well, actually, I could name a few fans of one particular platform who I think started gaming on the Nintendo 64 as kids. Because that's what their parents related 'safe' and 'video games' with, Nintendo. and then they probably got Playstation 2s as a Christmas or birthday gift during their early teens. And now they've got Xbox 360s.

And for some reason, that makes them experts. Call me back kids when you've learned everything about the rise of gaming from 1988-1994. Walk and punch clones. Birth of the FPS. The 16-bit era. Arcades....

If you grew up during the same time I did, you probably remember the machines you'd find in a building like this as your 'first gaming experience'

Some Sears branded Pong console in the late 70's. The knobs you used to control it were right on the console. It played Tennis, Ice Hockey and soccer, but the only difference was the number of paddles on the screen and the length thereof. After that it was Atari, but it was the NES that really got me into it.
