Hello friends,

In this thread we discuss what is the first FPS game we have played shall we? its not that oldest FPS game you played. means you might have played old FPS later but the first time you played an FPS.

for me its

Half life 1, It was first FPS i have ever played as kid back in 98 and my goodness, this game blew me away. at first i was bored in train sequence and almost quit it until train stop and it is written that you are Dr Gordon freeman a PHD. then i mess around with bunch of scientist and it took forever to figure out waht to do but after incident i got crowbar then pistol. once i show pistol. I was blow away as kid. i was like this is natural evolution of gaming.

then it got me into FPS and then after than i tried plenty of old FPS like Quake and Doom.

so friends, what was the first FPS game you have played? lets discuss

Wolfenstein was my first FPS game. My dad had it on his computer. But the first one I spent any real extensive time with was Doom. I still have the Doom cheat codes burned in my memory.

And I think same as you that Black Mesa is the superior experience.

Not technically a FPS, but I think Top Gun NES was my first game shooting shit from that perspective. More like First Person Lander tho, landing that shit was so god damn hard.

Transformed me into an inverted camera peasant when using a controller.

7 year old Conan beat it. Positive adult Ghosts could not.

Unless we're counting Duck Hunt :O

But first actual FPS was Wolf 3D. Which was fun for sure, but Doom was just next level.

@Yams1980: I wonder if not buying it changed your perspective. I had to save for about a year to buy it for $75. We only made the trip to the mall a couple times a year, and when I got home one of the disk was corrupted. I had to wait about 6 months before I could exchange it, but when I did...it became part of who I am. It's also still one of my favorite covers.

Robocop 3 on the Amiga. The game was released in 1991. They designed the game using polygons, it was entirely 3D.

There were driving sections, FPS sections, flying sections and hand-to-hand combat section at the end all in 3D polygons!

To prevent piracy, which was rampant on the Amiga there was this little thing that needed to be plugged into the controller port.

Here is a video, take a look.

If first-person rail shooters count, then it was Operation Wolf on the Sega Master System in the early '90s.

In terms of FPS proper, it was Doom. I remember playing the DOS shareware demo in the mid-90s.

Personally, I think first-person rail shooters should count as FPS. But many FPS fans and gatekeepers typically exclude rail shooters, even though they're literally first-person shooters.

I would assume one of the iD games. Might have been a weird one to start out with like Hexen or Quake rather than the obvious Doom or Wolfeinstein, not even sure which I played first but I played them all in a similar time frame in the mid 90's. I remember playing the original Half Life and Counterstrike, but that was more late 90's. That Half-Life multiplayer was the only FPS game I ever felt like i dominated at.

Technically, I probably played that horrible Jurassic Park SNES game first. It came out in 1993 and I might have played that in that year, or maybe 1994. It had some FPS sections. I remember as a kid that game made me dizzy as hell to the point of making me nauseous. As you imagine any FPS trying to run on SNES probably would. I'm sure I didn't finish it because I couldn't stomach playing through those sections, so I won't count it LOL.

Does Magic Carpet count? It's first person and you shoot fireballs and shit. If not, then Goldeneye or Wolfenstein 3D or Doom. Can't remember, played them all around the same time.
