To me one of my favorite moments in gaming was when you fought Psycho Mantis in Metal Gear Solid. That moment when the game breaks the fourth wall and Mantis is reading off games you played from your memory card and Colonel tells you to switch controller ports to block his mind reading lol. Kojima got the humor man. What about you, SW? What are some of your favorite moments in gaming?

There are many, just to mention a few:

  • Stepping out the Vortex Rikers ship and witness the impressive landscapes of planet Na Pali in Unreal
  • Escaping from Casa di Angelo, the Italian restaurant set on fire in Max Payne
  • Using the Cerebral Bore against your enemies in Turok 2
  • Entering Ravenholm in Half-life 2
  • Using Blink ability to confuse your enemies in Dishonored
  • Racing through the Great Wall of China in Motoracer
  • Blowing things in Black (those sound effects...)
  • Using the Microwave Pulse Emitter secondary fire in Soldier of Fortune

Running around the world in Super Mario 64 for the first time when the N64 launched. Only people that got to play Super Mario 64 when it first launched in 1996 will understand how incredible that experience was at the time.

The "wow" moment when I see how graphically detailed the kingdows are in Super Mario Odyssey. The most impressive is Bowser's Kingdom.

Others that come to mind:

  • the start of Bioshock when you approach Rapture in the bathysphere
  • walking out of the escape pod on the Halo ring in Halo: CE
  • the ending of Inside
  • there are a bunch of cool moments in Witcher 3, but there's too many to list!

The very first time playing Fire Emblem Sacred Stone when I was 12. I was really impressed by its battle animation.

Edit: O wait, it's favorite not most memorable. Then mine would be the Pokemon battle with Red in Pokemon Crystal.

Many Boss Battles inGod of War 1-3.

Playing Gears of War for the first time and was shocked at how amazing the graphics were.

The Endings of Metal Gear Solid 3 and Metal Gear Solid 4.

Uncharted 4 Clock Tower Level/Sequence. Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3 in general. Too many to list. The train, the plane, desert walk etc

The Last Of Us: Ellie constantly swearing had me laughing. The ending. The whole story was epic.

Entering the wasteland for the first time in Fallout 3. Nuking Megaton.

Yeah there are quite a few with the MGS games for me to be fair. I won't bother repeating them tho.

Being someone's boss in Demons Souls was pretty special.

Midway point in Portal!!!

Zelda OoT - all of it.

I was wowed by uncharted 2 at the time but now I can't stand those games. Really didn't like 3, which put me off the franchise, and those types of games completely. Same with God of War and Gears of War.

The opening hours of OoT and FFVII blew my mind. Just seemed like such a massive leap forward at the time. Even though I prefer their predecessors, those games had such a wow factor to them. It was the most evident generation leap ever and those two titles really drove it home for me.

MGS2 colonel glitching out in the final stretch was a real trip. I pretty much beat MGS2 in one long session the day I got it, and was tired af by the time that started happening. Didn't know what the hell was going on lol. Dude starts telling me I need to save and turn off the console lmao. Kojimas such a brilliant bastard.

But I think for single moments that really stand out for me, the ones I can remember every last detail about, were beating SMB and Double Dragon II for the first time, and the day I got Street Fighter II (Champions Edition) on A FREAKING HOME CONSOLE MAN!!! No more saving up quarters and trying to get to the arcade haha. Seems like nothing now, but such a huge deal at the time.

Mario Kart Double Dash on GameCube was pretty memorable for me. My friends and I were addicted to that game. We would play every track and tally the results several times a week for years.

To name a few:

FINALLY beating Mike Tyson in Punch Out

Beating SMB after figuring out the proper pipe sequence and then having an ENTIRELY NEW EXPERIENCE open to you for a second playthrough(fun fun stuff)

Defeating Shredder on the TMNT NES game after dying tons(and tons) trying to figure out which Shredder to hit and which is a clone. Truly Epic.

Psycho Mantis moving my controller with the power of his mind in MGS. That was trippy.

WALKING AROUND IN SHENMUE FOR THE FIRST TIME...that open world was so beautiful and epic. I was truly wowed by the details, scope, and graphics in that game. The real time day/night effect. The video game shop.

Uncharted 2- The Train

Final Fantasy VII- Just leaving Midgar and finding that giant snake completely upright and impaled by Sepiroth. Also when I finally got my gold chocobo and was able to go over those mountains to get Knights of The Round.

- Duck Hunt- Being amazed at video games in general and playing on my big brother's NES before I ever even had a system lol

Persona 4 Golden- Realizing who the killer was

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time- Getting owned by chickens was like so hilarious when I was a kid

Guitar Hero- All of it

Also couch co-op gaming sessions on Mario Kart, Goldeneye, Killer Instinct, Tekken/Tag/, and Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3

- All of Morrowind

- In Assassin's Creed 2 when Minerva speaks to Desmond through Ezio, knowing that someday Desmond would get the message b/c he would be in an Animus that reads his DNA and reliving Ezio's life. Awesome.

- The story in Horizon Zero Dawn and when we find out who Aloy is and what their plan was.

Playing Falcon for the Amiga. My first 1 versus 1 dogfight (modem to modem) against my supervisor who lived at the other side of town. Back in 1989, playing against someone far away was novel and new.

Later, we used null modems during Amiga Users Group meetings. It was the LAN-fest of its day.

I wouldn't say favorite but "memorable"

  1. FFVII, Aeris. The first time ever seeing main character die and taken from your party that early in the game--not to mention my fav character.
  2. GTA3--having sex with a Prostitute.
  3. RE4--"I'm safe because I entered a house and the door is shut"--NOT.
  4. XCOM Enemy Unknown--getting my first whole squad wiped out in the first real mission.
  5. Mass Effect--OMG, I'm the one who chooses who to sacrifice--Kaiden or Ashley.
  6. Persona 4 Golden--Chie and Yukiko making up and knowing each others dark sides. Chie admitting jealousy and Yukiko admitting being helpless/hopeless--"these are some pretty damn good characters, writing, and story. Relate-able, like-able, and most importantly, believable."
  7. MGS, Sniper Wolf and Psycho Mantis boss fights.
  8. Demon Souls, being one shot by the boss..................
  9. RE2, played as a kid--when T-00 or Tyrant broke through the wall to chase you for the first time. I literally shut the game off after I found save point because I was so shaken LOL.
  10. NCAA football 14--National Championship game, OT--then I scored a field goal. At the 2 yard line--they threw it instead of run and I intercept it. Eerily similar to the PATS vs Seahawks superbowl.
  11. Modern Warfare--the overused and overdone cliche scenarios in all modern shooters after it--The AC-130 mission, The Sniper Mission.
  12. The Bouncer--OMG this is the power of PS2 graphics!!!
  13. RDR--getting to play as Jack and kill that SOB who murdered and played John Marston.
  14. MGS4--Shadow Moses, PS1 MGS1 head and the slow theme music came on. Hit me right in the feels. I played MGS1 when it released as a child. Realizing Old Snake and old me went on this journey together. We are one and the same. MGS4 is suppose to be the end, it's been so many years, it's time to let go and move on old man.
  15. MGS3--The ending "Loyal to the End". GUNSHOT.

I'm sure there's more but that's the list on the top of my head.

Man, I've got several.

-FFVI (FF III on SNES) - The moment where you had to remember lines for the opera. If you messed up, you got booed. That was hilarious to me at the time. Also, fighting the octopus (forget his name right now) so many times throughout the game.
-FFVII - Using Omnislash for the first time.
- FFVIII- Hearing Eyes on Me for the first time...gave me goosebumps..still does.
-Mike Tyson's Punchout - I raged so much when it came to getting curb stomped time after time by him. When I finally beat him, mannnnn....
-Super Mario World - Beating Tubular in the special zone was...everything. It was so frustrating until just using the blue yoshi to make it easy. Ugh.
-Zelda:OoT - The water level...was the hardest thing to try to figure out because this was before online game guides became prevalent. Once I figured it out, it was so satisfying.

-Modern Warfare 2: The AC130 mission.
-Uncharted 2 - the game itself because I had not played the first Uncharted game.
- The Last of US - The giraffe scene.....that game was so good.

There are so many for me giving my gaming goes back to the mid-80's. Those are the ones I could think of off the top my head.

Street fighter Alpha II, between this and Capcom vs SNK it's hard to choose but it's one of my funnest and most played co-op fighters of all time..with actual buddies before online.

Shenmue, the scale and detail of this game in 1999 was a watermark experience.

MGS2 blew me away from beginning to end. Masterclass development of a game.

MGS3, when climbing the latter in game and the "tree frog" song came out, ICONIC AF!

The graphics of GOW3 when fighting titans in 2010, unbelievable.

Demon's Souls, one of if not the most memorable and legendary gameplay experiences ever.

Final Fantasy 12, probably the first final fantasy game that I truly adored.

Super Mario World, the first time I played this was like magic in digital form.

Panzer Dragoon II, probably the most fun on rails shooter I've ever played.

It could've been a realstic feature in shooters: especially now with a lot of dirt and rain getting on your guns...

Unfortunately Far Cry 2 had such a lousy implementation with the jams only happening to you and the RNG being so bad that you could pick up a gun from an enemy who was firing hundreds of shots, fire it five times and literally have it jam on you so you would just die.

Far Cry 2 had a great idea, lousy execution.
