This brings back a lot of nostalgia. I would say my favorite console to boot up for the first time was PlayStation 1. I always think about that iconic boot up screen and sound. What about you, SW? What was your favorite console/system to boot up for the first time?

coin flip between these two. Setting the Saturn clock for the first time was a ''whoa" moment, plus it could play CD's. The DC was similar and had the VMU going for it.

The original Xbox as well. I couldn't believe i had it. Only tried it at BestBuy and a game center they charge like $10/hour to play Halo CE. Closely followed by the 360. Funny enough, all Sony systems i owned didn't feel special at all. It was like turning on a calculator, nobody cares.

PS1. My first game for it was Resident Evil and I'm still terrified of those dogs.

PS2/PS1 always gonna hold that nostalgia. GC was pretty dope and I did like the OG Xbox.

Probably the gamecube because it brings back a bunch of memories, though n64 is up there and same with the xbox 360. So I'll rank them 1) gc 2) n64 3) xbox 360. All of them bring back fond memories.

Probably ps2 for me, although I love the simple artistry of the Dreamcast boot, and also appreciated the artsy fartsy og ps3.

I freaking hated the original Xbox boot up. Felt so juvenile - like, I get that I'm playing with a toy, but don't rub my face in it

The PS1 boot up is just perfect. I do like the Gameboy advance boot up too it is final evolution of the Gameboy line of consoles boot up/sound.

The PS2 boot although awesome can give me heart attack if PS2 failed to read disk.

Nothing compares to the launch of PS1.

Holy shit the sounds and visuals are a literal embodiment of the mid/late 90s.

Best era ever

PS1 was great, but I remember that after a while it would only get passed that boot screen if I have the PS1 upside down.

The OG PS and Xbox are pretty much up there and whilst not a console the OG boot screen for pokemon red/blue may as well have been the Gameboy bootscreen.

NES

Something about blowing the dust out of the cartridges; and the very chunky, tactile feeling of sliding it in, slapping it down, and pushing that big boxy plastic button.

Man...when I write it like that, are we sure I'm talking about a console. Slide it in, slap it down, push that button. Awwwww yeah girl

In terms of consoles the PS1 is still the best. it's very very playstation before it got pretentious with that piano lark.

I'm also going to give a shout out to Windows XP and the tour that appears when you first start it up:

It should start around 46 seconds. Sure at times it sounds like someone is giving a powerpoint presentation on synergies *shudder*....but it's nice :).
