Poll What was the best year of last gen (2014-2020) in your opinion? (21 votes)

2014 0%
2015 19%
2016 19%
2017 38%
2018 5%
2019 10%
2020 10%

Last gen is finally over. What do we think is the best year from that gen? This was tougher than I thought it was going to be lol. I went with 2017. The year we got the Switch, Breath of the Wild, Nier Automata, and Yakuza 0 in one year. Then probably 2018 because of God of War, Forza Horizon 4, Smash Ultimate, and Divinity Original Sin 2. 2020 was pretty damn good too. I pretty much like every year although 2014 was meh, with the exception of Bayonetta 2.

2016 - Doom, Hitman, Titanfall 2, Deus Ex MD (disappointing yet still solid), Quantum break (underrated game)

2020 - Doom Eternal, Black Mesa, Mafia DE, Desperados 2

Between those years.

Yeah, pretty much. Lots of good games are missing from TCs lists, though.

I'd have to say 2018. GOW, Smash, Monster Hunter, Shadow of The Colossus remake and you forgot Spiderman all in the same year. 2018 was jam packed.

Went with 2016 due Uncharted 4 releasing. It was the last game I truly had hype for and the single player met that hype spot on.

There were quite a few other good releases such as Amplitude, Last Guardian, and Broforce. Then we got ports of the Resident Evil games, STO and others.

Good year.

2020 (The Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima, FFVII: Remake, Hades, Persona 5: Royal...)

2015 (Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, The Witcher 3, Bloodborne...)

2017 (LoZ: Breath of the Wild, Divinity Original Sin II, Super Mario Odyssey, Horizon Zero Dawn, Dark Souls 3...)

2018 (Red Dead Redemption 2 and God of War)

those 4 years were absolutely phenomenal.

2014,2016 and 2019 were pure garbage though.

I think 2014 and 2016 are the two WORST years in gaming since ≈ 1995.

Oh yeah, I forgot about RD. That was huge. 2018 was definitely a great year for gaming but there were so many great games released last gen. I think it definitely topped the gen before last.

Toss up between 2017 with the Switch and a bunch of games for it, 2018 with Red Dead 2, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Monster Hunter World, and 2019.

I think that I would go with 2019 due to:

- Resident Evil 2 Remake

- Devil May Cry 5

- Monster Hunter World: Iceborne

- Dragon Quest S Definitive Edition

Those games were just too damn good.

2017 was crazy.

PS4: RE7, Gravity Rush 2, Yakuza 0, Nioh, Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier: Automata, Persona 5, Tekken7, FF14 Stormblood, Hellblade, Ys VIII, GTSport, Evil Within 2

Switch: BotW, Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8DX

I've played all the games above and spent a fair amount of time on each one. I can confidently say that 2017 was the most enjoyable year for me in recent years.

2020 for me because of Alyx, Noita and Hades. Also outside of gaming, The Mandalorian saved Star Wars.

2017, although 2018 have a very special place in my heart, dunno why, probably because of Valkyria Chronicles 4.

Yeah man, I remember waiting for it to come to the PC it was a long and painful wait but a game that actually lived up for the hype at least for me. I didn't own a console back then playing it for the first time in 2015 was a great gaming experience it ran very well not many bugs or other issues especially compared to RDR2 PC launch.

For some reason I keep thinking Persona 5 came out in 2016 but that was Japan. Makes me confident about 2017 being my number 1 even more!! Welcome back btw!
