Poll What was the best decade in gaming? (63 votes)

2010-2019 11%
2000-2009 30%
1990-1999 54%
1980-1989 3%
1970-1979 2%

Damn, this is interesting. One might think that the latest decade will be the best. After all, gaming should get better as the industry progresses. But I'm going to be completely nostalgic and say the 90s lol. It was the era of Sega vs Nintendo. The beginning and end of the Dreamcast. The rise of Playstation. It was also a time when consoles were self contained machines. There was no DLC or microtransactions. What you bought was what you got. It was also a time when the experience of buying a game was almost as fun as actually playing them. Was it a perfect time? No, but that's what nostalgia is all about!

What say you, SW? Best decade in gaming?

90 - 99 without question, it was amazing. The Megadrive with Streets of Rage 2, Road Rash and the Strike series. We had Wolfenstein, The early Doom/Quake series, AVP (Jag) to name a few and to top it all off we had Half-Life 1 and the best game ever made: Everquest 1999.

1990s

PS2 was a beast but it released the same decade as 360/PS3/Wii.

In my view, gaming really came into it's own in the 90's. It was a bit messy at times (some of those early 3D PS1 games are jank looking back at them, controls were still often sloppy and not user friendly in certain genres). But between SNES in the early part of the decade and the advent of online multiplayer on PC as well as the early moves into 3D based environments, the 90's brought us where we are today. Fundamentally, nothing now is drastically different than playing the original counterstrike or Unreal Tournament or Everquest on PC.

That being said, gaming has continued to get better thanks to technology. But it's mostly refining and exploiting the breakthroughs of 90's...hell many 90's launched gaming franchises are still out there raking in the cash today

Current decade. 90s will always be the most special, but i'm aware that nostalgia factor has alot to do with it.

Other than some greedy companies that we can easily avoid, i don't think this industry has ever been in better shape than it is now! Indies are bringing back 2d gaming, new genres, and a ton of experimentation. AAAs finally look like pixar movies, are huge, and super polished. VR is actually more fun and immersive than my most optimistic predictions. We have sales everywhere with prices for all pockets...
