What should be id software next game? Doom (third game) or Quake reboot?

With Quake I can either see them copying Doom where it's actually an arena shooter or have someone like Machinegames tackle it where they add a ton of obnoxious cutscenes, obnoxious characters, gimmick mini-games, schizophrenic level design, no multiplayer etc...

Doom should be left alone for 10 years.

A new IP.

Will it be on PlayStation?

I loved the dark fantasy style of the original Quake. Reboot like that. There's enough sci-fi fps games already.

ID should make a new MP Quake game so I'll be stoked and Ghosts will be sad.

If Doom is as good as Eternal, they can spam it on yearly basis and ill be buying them all. But not only does Quake deserve a reboot, i think they need it so people don't feel the Doom fatigue, and the game needs to feel at least a bit differently from Doom.

New IP and leave Doom & Quake alone. Make something fucking new IP!

Unfortunately this looks highly unlikely.

Unless heavily modified these games don't seem to gel with modern audiences.

Even Quake Champions had to bend over and add classes and unlocks and stuff and still never took off.

Quake copying Doom is best thing ever.

Quake 1 was primarily SP title.

they ruined series by prioritizing MP.

As a package Quake 1/2 are pretty much the same ratio of content 38/39 when it comes to SP maps.

Quake 3 is when it fully, unconditionally focused on MP.

Quake 3 is more an evolution of Quake (1) than 2. Though it combines them (along with Doom it should be noted) in the ID cinematic universe.

Nobody cares about Rage. Didn't exist back then, but even then, nobody would care about Rage.

come on. Quake 2 was suppose to be different game. it was not Quake. but they just named it Quake.

beside quake 2 sp suck. Quake 1 was masterpiece. the dark atmosphere and unique enemy types compare to generic quake 2 stroggs.

didnot care about quake 3. its full MP spinoff. even latest Quake game is full on MP games Quake live and Quake champions.

the fact is we never get a real Quake after original. id handle this franchise terrible unlike Doom.

Quake 2 is not better than Metro series.

idSoftware will definitely not go back to the old style DOOM, and I'm not sure I want another Devil May Cry-DOOM.

Me too but instead of a male protagonist I want a female one mostly a Zoomer that kills demons with a app.

Commander Keen. I'm Playing Doom Eternal at the moment and the platforming on it is pretty good. They can do platforming and clever level design to find secrets quite well.

A 3rd (or maybe first) person commander keen, set on an interesting Alien world in a MetroidVania type setup could work quite well. It's been ages since i played it but i do remember it being quite wierd.

A new Quake 1 may as all be another Doom.

A new Quake following quake 2 could be interesting as a squad based shooter maybe (Like that star wars elite commando game). Quake 4 had some interesting ideas but poor execution.

Me too but I played QIIIA a lot more than UT, its probably my most played multiplayer FPS ever. TFC and Tribes 2 are the only others that come close. I dont tend to play mp shooters nowadays, they just dont make them like they used to.

ID software should make the new Halo. While The Coalition works on a ID ip and 343 studios gets... Rage 3.

A Quake 1 reboot. Want to go back to the Lovecraftian horror themes again.

Yeah Quake 3 was my favorite of the multiplayer even though I still enjoyed Unreal Tournament. Quake 2 is still badass and the music is awesome. The soundtrack to Quake 2 is the best in the series.

BTW did you ever play Quake 4?

@AcidTango: Yep. Alright. Better than most of the usual shit play today. Never really went back to it though. Replay Quake 1/2 almost every year by comparison.

Quake 4 is a good game but it starts off pretty slow in the beginning, but after the Stroggification part, the game gets way better after that. Same with the weapons. They start off ok but once they get upgraded and you get more weapons later on they become much better.

But yeah Quake 4 is not as good as Quake 1 and 2 but I still enjoy it.

Liked Doom 2016 a lot. Loved Eternal, easily up there with the best action games. So yeah, not opposed to more Doom. Does seem abit soon though, and unless they really have some interesting new ideas, don't think I need more Eternal just yet.

Hugo is the man, never expected a AAA dev to release a shooter with teeth like that. Definitely trust the guy to revitalize an existing IP or create a new one. Want more Doom, but cycling in another game between could be a good thing.

I already want to see another Rage.
