Poll What model of a console do you generally prefer? (60 votes)

Original model (generally the most expensive and well constructed) 62%
Revised model (generally less expensive with cheaper construction) 30%
Limited Edition model (generally more expensive but either original or iterative) 8%

For me personally I like original hardware, in general they're much more sturdy and designed in fancy ways with stronger overall construction, they have not been cheapened yet to drive down costs.

I don't particularly fancy revised systems except when they provide fixes, and I absolutely detest Limited Editions as they end up looking like children's toys. I do have the Halo 5 Xbox One because I got a great deal on it but it will be replaced next year with Scorpio.

Normally that latest model is best but I normally stick to the original because that is what I bought since it was out first. I do not want to wait 2-3 years for basically the same thing just smaller. I will probably buy a Scorpio at launch though because it is not some small upgrade but more like a large leap.

As far as the look, I could not care less.

Revised. I think the only two model ones I prefer are for the Genesis and Saturn. Everything else, like for all of the Playstations, Xboxes, and Nintendo handhelds, I'll take the newer versions.

I've still got my CECHA (HW backwards compatibility) and it's functioning perfectly, in time I can imagine they're going to become quite valuable when a lot of the others die off.

Revised. after last gen definately revised.

the original PS3 and 360 were pretty bad. the 360 had RROD and disc drives that liked to eat their discs. the PS3 had YLOD and the BD drive was a bit pants in terms of reliability. build quality of both was very meh.

im currently using my fat 60GB PS3 but as i use it i keep thinking "is it going to blow now?", "how loud is the fan?". thats really not good. my 360 RRODd.

even this gen there were issues. granted nothing as severe but still issues. the build quality of the original PS4 was a little suspect (the wobble) and the xbox1 s makes X1 games run that bit faster than the X1. ok not really an issue for the original model but still a sickener for X1 owners.

of course its opposite land for nintendo. the original wii was the one to get due to GC BC. the latest wii model (the red one) is just completely blerg. they dont tend to change their consoles over their lifespan though and nintendo hardware is generally bullet proof so now worries there.. i was having 5 hour xenoblade sessions on my wii u and i wasnt even thinking "oh god this console could die now". nintendos handhelds...well there are so many revisions its hard to call. build quality on the original 3DS models was a bit poor though.

revised/slim model.

Generally cheaper, less prone to hardware faults and better looking

Xbox 360 was prone to hardware faults > slim wasn't
PS2 was prone to hardware faults > slim wasn't

Ain't seeing none of that "cheaper construction"

Revisions will always be built with correcting faults entry models suffer from, however they are generally of lesser overall quality than them in terms of materials, design etc.

Regardless of some of the 360's suffering from RRoD (easily preventable) and PS2's suffering drive failures, I have no doubt the original designs will survive the test of time considerably longer than their revisions. Not only do exterior constructions get cheaper for revisions, internal components do as well, cheaper leads, capacitors, circuitry etc. They may operate more efficiently but without a doubt they will fail sooner.

My Xbox 360 is 11 years old and my PS3 is 10 years old, still alive and kicking.

My DS lite will still be alive and kicking in 20 years :/

1/3rd of Xbox 360s didn't survive more than 2 years.

So much for your theory ;)

First off you're not a time traveler so lose the cocky attitude and I have no doubts the DS will greatly outlive the DS Lite. Secondly, original hardware free of faults in far more cases than not will exceed the lifespan of revisions by a large margin for the reasons already expressed, better and higher quality internal components. Third, why are you comparing a DS Lite to a PS3 and 360? Fourth, not all 360's were affected by the overheating issues, the ones which were not will continue to function without issue just as they have to this point in time, and finally fifth. Faults like the RRoD are not a result of component failure, they are the result of some systems having insufficiently soldered joints. If your system were going to fail it would happen early on and it is the result of a manufacturing inconsistency during the soldering process, not a cheaply designed system or internal components.

I get most systems on launch, so I usually do not have any choice. However, I do upgrade them. For example: I went from the launch 3DS to the XL to the new 3DS XL. I would have bought a Ps4 Pro as well, if it wasn't such a bad deal. Maybe if it has a good looking LE, a P5 styled would be nice.

I generally like the originals better .

The only exception is ds .

The only slim models I like are ps3(first slim not the second one) and 360. Actually hate the look of all other slims . But even at that I prefer the original ps3 and 360.

I don't have a preference but I tend to go with original models since well, it's the first release hardware after all and I'm not the one to replace my existing hardware unless something goes wrong with my current hardware and only then, I'll go for the revised models, take original Xbox 360 to Xbox 360 slim as an example.

Original model for me. I still have an original ps1 with the rca ports on the back, an original ps2, a 60gb fat ps3 and an original ps4 console.

I've never been a fan of revised hardware cause it usually means cut back or completely removed features and if I'm gon pay big cash for something I want the most it offers for that cash.

I usually go original, and rarely upgrade to any slim variation unless I get a hardware failure or as a gift. I'm leaning toward the Pro once it drops a bit in price, as the Scorpio is largely redundant for myself, due to having a decent PC.

I prefer original except for the ps3, where the middle model (the first slim) is the best version.

My Original 60GB ps3 died on me and it's the only console to do so that I owned. (In it's generational lifetime.) In fact, I have quite a few friends that had one and they have all had their 60GB's fail.

Lately I've been preferring the revised models. I bought an original DS and 3DS and wish I would have waited since the Lite and XL models are better for each system respectively. I'm glad I waited for a PS3 slim since the original model is too bulky.

The ones that don't break and offer the best feature set.

Hence, PS3Phat and Xbox 360 Slim (S Model).

I still have the OG 60GB PS3.. however the disc tray is def malfunctioning now since it doesn't want to spit out the disc, I need to spam the buttom, I love that console though, play it more than my PS4.

It doesn't really matter to me so long as it plays the games though I've never had a limited edition system.

Regular/original systems I've owned:

NES, SNES, Virtual Boy, N64, GBA, Gamecube, Wii, Game Gear, Saturn, 32X, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PSP, PS3, PS4, PSV, 3DO, Jaguar

Slim/revised systems I've owned:

Genesis 2nd version, Sega CD side version, PS2, PS3, GBA SP

As for the original question, I prefer revised.

For the most part I like the new ones though there are some older ones I like.

Original PS2 looked like a dirty diaper, slim was pretty cool

Original 360 looked cheap. The newer model, though it appears to have been built on the San Andreas fault, is nicer looking. The newest model looks fine.

The Wii Mini to me looks cooler than the original

The Xbone S looks better than the original

GB Micro and SP are much better looking than the original GBA

DS Lite and PSP Go look better than the original DS and PSP

I prefer the original NES, the original Genesis, and the original PS3. As for the PS1, I think I actually like both the original and the slim. The original just has that nice, grey hulkiness that lets you know it's from the 90s. The slim looks really great though.

Hmmmmm

Xbox 360: original

Xbox One: revised (S)

PS2: original

PS3: revised (slim) boooo super-slim

PS4: original

DS/3DS: revised (XL)

Those are all the ones I can think of. And it seems to be a tie. It's hit or miss. Has a lot to do with the look of the console. Sometimes extra features are a big plus, but revised consoles don't always have many different features other than look.

It really depends on the system.

For all Playstations I like the OG model. Cause they usually cut features out of slim models.

For all Nintendo systems they don't really do refreshes except their portables, with 'slim' or 'new models' being better and not so clunky.

For Xboxes I like the Slim models.

I dont bother with SE consoles.

@FLOPPAGE_50: It's a great system, just for the fact you can play ps1, ps3, and ps3 games on it. But I bought one again recently and the damn thing failed again. I even took it apart to do the YLOD fix.

My ps3 slim is still going strong though.....so is my ps2.

My ps1 still works, but can't read games anymore. I think the laser needs to be replaced.

Depends on the system.

Original ps3 was a sexy bitch.

Original xbox 360 was a piece of shit.

New xbox one S is amazing.

ps4 pro is amazing. Love the big mac.

Special editions if I can manage it.

My PS3 is a plain OG model, the 80GB version. I don't think we in the States ever got a nice special edition I liked, though I did win the console so I had no say in which one I got.

My PS4 is the Star Wars Battlefront edition, which is okay but I don't like Star Wars. But again: a prize, so can't complain. If I could, I'd love to have the Dragon Quest edition.

Handhelds I have owned tons of special and standard editions. Too many to list.
