I'd have to go with Civilization VI. Loving that game a lot, with Owlboy and Doom right behind it.

Battlefield 1.
There's just so much to see and do in Conquest. Been playing since launch and am just starting to get in to the role of medic and am having a blast. Already mastered the Assault and Support classes, and having great progress with Scout too, but the Medic class is really important in turning the tides of war.
The game is just epic on almost all fronts. The burning rubble and smoke, the gas from the grenades, the dramatic weather, the roaring of the armored train etc.
You really have to devote a lot of time and effort in to getting good, and try hard not to get discouraged at the beginning because of all the deaths you will endure from every side and angle. If you stick with it though, you really feel like your efforts help sway the direction of things. It's just so damned addicting.
My fav thing I've played this year is Witcher 3: Blood & Wine... but in terms of a full game, has to be Inside.
Quantum Break
Really made that much of an impact on you? Glad you enjoyed it! I'll have to give it a run after Christmas. Currently playing Hyper Light Drifter.
@iandizion713 Always good to see some Kirby love.
@Ghost_Dub Waiting for my buddies to get it for Christmas. We're going to play all online, should be great.
Quantum Break
Tough year for lems, very rough.
Dark Souls 3 800h+. Nothing else came close to the enjoyment i got from it.
Doom is the only 2016 game I've played so far and it's a blast. If I'm going to have only one linear FPS, it'll be Doom.
I can finally retire the old Doom games and Quake 2.
FFXV, which was the biggest surprise. Then again, I haven't finished or played every game I wanted to play this year.
Dishonored 2
People keep talking about that. I've never played a dishonored game.
Its worth a shot. Its insanely immersive and gruesome. I feel bad for some of the stuff i did in that game.
@n64dd: I never played the first Dishonored but I really enjoy this one. The level design is really good. There are all kinds of secrets to find and that is probably the the most entertaining part for me. It's fun finding an open window like on a fifth floor of a building and then trying to figure out how to get to it. There are so many little details. If you are into "immersive sims" you should give it a try. I don't play it like a stealth game, I just murder everyone, lol. I like that you can play it several different ways. I'm on my second play through and finding a lot of things I missed the first time and I had thought I was pretty thorough the first time. If it sounds like the type of game you would like I highly recommend it.
Overwatch is easily my game of the year. Final Fantasy XV is a close second which i wasn't expecting.

If you go into the game expecting exactly what they have advertised it to be you will get exactly what you should be expecting from it, there's no surprises in that regard. For me especially being an adult where my gaming stamina is not what it used to be it was really nice playing the game for 90 minutes or so and then watching a 21 minute show, it was a good thing to break things up, It's got a great story, the game play in terms of movement and shooting mechanics are really good, there's good enemy variety, the powers add a lot of diversity to emergence in the combat, there's a lot of side narrative content and easter eggs to be found and overall to me it was just a well put together game.
Sure the show thing is not for everyone but why would you go into this game in specific and bash the game because of the show? That has been a part of the game since its conception, it's asinine ideology, that's comparable to disliking black dogs and then getting a black dog and bitching about it. The show is not blockbuster levels of production but it's very much Lost levels in terms of production values and its competent enough to tie everything together. People seem to easily forget that the show is taking you into a world never explored in games, the world of the antagonists and the events taking place surrounding them while the game entirely revolves around Jack Joyce.
Remedy tried something different and while it didn't exactly go as planned in terms of perfect execution it is a unique piece of gaming history and something I loved for the simple fact that it challenged the status quo and tried something new, it took a risk, it took the biggest risk of any game this generation.
More so than this being my game of the year, it's a game and developer I greatly respect for being and trying things differently. If I could throw out an analogy; it's very much my Donald Trump and games like Uncharted are very much the establishment.
Dark Souls 3, 250+ hours, every weapon, armour and spell.
As of right now Stardew Valley on PS4, since it came out I've played nothing.
I don't really have one. There were a number of games that I enjoyed this year and still many that I want to try. Nothing really stood out as being my favorite among all though. So I guess I have games of the year.
@dynamitecop:
The whole "it's a movie not a game" gets old.
Why can't people avoid the "movie games" as they call them and play what they like? No, we have to destroy it for others who might like it with a weird dedicated/coordinated internet assault.
The Witness with ease, though admittedly I don't play many new releases during the year (hoping to fix that over break). The game is so full of entertaining and challenging content, and it's rare to find a game that masterfully walks the tight rope of never giving you explicit directions or holds your hand, but is still able to clearly and intelligently communicate its ideas and keep you progressing somewhere even if one particular part is giving you trouble. It's also an amazingly fun co-op game, if you so desire. The sound puzzles can go die in a fire, but other than that I haven't had a better time all year with any game.
Oh I haven't grabbed Civ VI!! Gotta do that before the year ends. That Steam sale coming up is gonna dry my wallet if I do grab every game I have on my wishlist
Doom for sure, one of my favorite games this gen! Followed by Forza Horizon 3, one of my favorite racers of all time!
