Poll What is your favorite Souls game? (56 votes)

Demons’s Souls 9%
Dark Souls 30%
Dark Souls II 7%
Dark Souls III 20%
Bloodborne 27%
Lords of the Fallen 2%
Nioh 5%

I’m almost done with playing Dark Souls 3. It was on the backlog. Never beat Dark Souls 2, not sure if I’ll go back. That makes Demons’s, Dark Souls 1&3, and Bloodborne as the only Souls games I beat. I do have both Lords of the Fallen and Nioh, and I know I want to go back to Nioh. As for my favorite out of the ones I’ve beaten, I would say Bloodborne followed by Dark Souls 3. But they’re all really great games and a pain in the ass to play! Bloodborne was great because of the setting and fast paced style of gameplay that included guns. Dark Souls 3 was a nice mix between DS and Bloodborne. What about you, SW? Which Souls games have you played? Want to play? Finished? And yes, I realize the choices here are somewhat tongue in cheek.

I had most fun with Dark Souls 3, I played it at launch, the online community was active, I was familiar to games of this type by then so there wasn't the steep learning curve, and I didn't nearly get invaded by people trying to shit on my day as happened in other games.

Dark Souls 1 for single player because of the world design.

Dark Souls 2 for pvp because of the weapon options everything felt viable.

Dark Souls 3 just felt like a step backwards in everything except graphics.

I've played all of them except for DS2, but I've only finished Bloodborne and Nioh because I like their faster combat so much more than the others. Between them, I think l lean towards Nioh, but I haven't played any of its DLC like I have Bloodborne's which makes it very hard to choose a favorite. I'd like to go back to the other souls games and give them another try when I have more time, specifically DS3, after I finish Yakuza 6 and Persona 4 Golden.

I've played and finished them all. Bloodborne is the best by a ridiculous margin, it absolutely oozes atmosphere, the visual design is without equal and the gameplay is just exquisite. Astonishing game.

Between demons, dark souls ii, and bloodborne. Nioh isn't a souls game, and lords of the fallen lol.

Dark Souls 1 was the best, by far. Incredible combat, story, and game world. Top-3 game all-time for me.

Dark Souls 2 was a flop (they literally let their interns work on it while the A-team worked on Bloodborne). They just created some crappy linear map and called it a day.

I still haven't gotten around to playing 3, but I hear it's great.

Bloodborne was great.

Bloodborne is definitely my favorite, however I must mention that it was the first Souls game I completed as well as the first game I ever said to myself "I *will not* let this game beat me", died so, so, so many times, and loved every minute of it.

My second favorite and DS-proper favorite is actually Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin. I never played vanilla so I don't know "what it was like". I just really enjoyed the experience overall and the amount of weapons was ridiculous. I know it's the black-sheep but I just really enjoyed it personally.

P.S. - I did try Dark Souls (1), before any of them, but I was not ready to git gud. Basically I got to Capra Demon and swore I would never play it again. I really like it now, but after Bb and 2 and 3, it's hard to go back. Looking forward to the Remaster though.

Dark souls 3. Can’t really explain why, just know that I played it by far the most, and had the most fun with it. Could be that it was the first one to have a passable pc port, and decent keyboard/mouse support. Plus, being able to manually aim soul streams at unsuspecting invaders was freaking awesome.

Dark Souls 3, it just felt like they really nailed the formula, had great environment variety, enjoyed the boss fights.

my playstyle involves using polearms and shields so while I really enjoyed Bloodborne and appreciated that it got me to mix up my playstyle a bit, it just wasn't quite up my alley as much. I also found the environments a bit samey compared to the souls games.

Dark Souls was the first one I played.

Dark Souls 2 was the first one I owned and really played. Everyone hates on it all the time but I really love it. But that's because it's my true first Souls game. Happy to play any of them tbh.

I haven't played all of them, but I Bloodborne is by far the best I've played. I really appreciate the faster pace and the world is just really fun.

Demons/Dark souls or Nioh.

I appreciate Bloodborne's faster pace but DS3 included it and Nioh is a blazing speed in combat and just much more visceral imo. And lmao to Nioh not being a "souls" game. Maybe not in name or dev team but its mechanics are exactly souls. Amirita instead of souls/blood echoes,; lose all collected when killed; have one chance to reach that spot and reclaim them; enemies do massive damage per hit landed; the amount required to level up one category rises with each lvl up etc. Sure, its not souls at all.

I voted for 3 but I think I've enjoyed Dark Souls 2 more because it's my very first souls game.

I've only played Dark Souls 1 and 3, so I'm probably the wrong person to ask. I enjoyed Dark Souls 3 more than the first. It was easier to understand for me, and thus, more enjoyable. It was also much easier difficulty-wise, which may be why I enjoyed it more. I didn't have much trouble with DS1 difficulty, but DS3 clicked with me more. I just had more flow in that one.

I've yet to play Nioh, but I really really want to. Waiting for it to go down in price a little..

Not a big fan of Bloodborne. Just not enough variety. Going with a ranged character or a heavily armored turtle is just not a valid option. Also while the weapons are pretty cool there aren't enough of them. Finding awesome loot is a big part of the fun in Souls games to me and Bloodborne simply sucks that way.

Scholar of the First Sin, easily.

People seem to forget here that there are two versions of Dark Souls II.

Dark Souls III is a huge step down and a game that killed the series. Easily the worst soulsbourne game.

I voted Lords of the Fallen only because it's the only one on that list I've played (currently playing).

I am going to hit up Bloodborne next, so I'm sure my vote will change 2 minutes into that game.

  1. Dark Souls - Best overall experience
  2. Dark Souls II SotFS - Best game mechanics for MP and best replayability, fantastic DLC maps
  3. Demon's Souls
  4. Bloodborne
  5. Dark Souls III

Wow... I didn't expect DSIII to come out last, but there it is.

Nioh is probably somewhere in the middle. I never played LotF.

Prepare to die. But Sinh, the Slumbering Dragon was the most enjoyable boss.
