There have been plenty of great consoles over time, for many different sorts of people. Some have failed, and others are still around today.

My personal favorite console of all time is the Original XBOX. I personally grew up as a PS2 fanboy, and while the PS2's game library was absolutely massive, I was always jealous of my best friend's XBOX every time I went to his place. That Fuzion Frenzy demo on his Halo Disc was amazing fun, man.

It wasn't until adulthood that I bought one of my own, and unlike the current XBOX One, this black box does a fantastic job at entertaining me. The multiplats are often the smoothest and best looking on the XBOX, there's tons of modding support, demo discs we're still in adundence (my favorite collector's hobby of the era,) and I only own S controllers, so I don't have to complain about the Duke.

What about you? What is your favorite console of all time and why?

(PC gamers, this is not your thread. Please go to the other one I have created specifically for PC platforms.)

PS4 is my all time favorite as it has remasters of many of my favourites, great continuations to existing IPs, great new IPs, great controller, and a good interface.

Game Gear is my favorite handheld mostly due to nostalgia.

SNES

The NES made me a gamer, but the SNES was just that much better.

PC gamer here!

My favorite consoles are:

  • PS1 - for all those dope RPGs.
    • My favorite Final Fantasy games.
    • Chrono Cross
    • Awesome Square experimental games like Parasite Eve.
    • Legend of Legaia
    • Xenogrears
    • Legend of Dragoon
    • Lunar games
    • etc (just so many good ones)
  • Original Xbox
    • The software mods made this the most useful console I ever owned. I loved tinkering with it. I think I had 3 at one point.
    • System link was and still is a fantastic addition to any console.
    • Ninja Gaiden

GameCube :3

Lots of games I liked, nice graphics, awesome controller, console itself looked cool, rad menus. Playing Zelda: Wind Waker and Metroid Prime, which I got as my first two GC games, for the first time was an insanely awesome feeling.

Dreamcast, N64 a close second. Haven't really bothered with consoles to be honest aside from a game or two.

The ones I enjoyed the most were

  • NES
  • Gamecube
  • Dreamcast

They all offered that feeling of gaming "wonder".

Original Xbox. In its day it was the most powerful, best online service, and best software which introduced 2 of gaming’s biggest franchises - Halo and Forza.

That would be the SNES for me. Many of my all time favourite games were on that system. The graphics were amazing at that time along with some truly fantastic audio. To this day I can still replay so many games from that system and thoroughly enjoy them. There are tons of memorable soundtracks that pop into my head regularly. Some of my favourite games from that system are:

- Chrono Trigger

- Final Fantasy III

- Super Mario World

- Super Metroid

- Super Castlevania IV

- Contra III: The Alien Wars

- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time

- Mega Man X, X2, and X3

- Sparkster

- Final Fight

- Super Mario RPG

- Legend of the Mystical Ninja

- The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

- Demon’s Crest

- Breath of Fire 1 and 2

And many, many more.

Even though I've had technically better consoles that I've played way more games on since, my favourite memories and the console I have the most nostalgia for is Gamecube (which I still own and play).

And OG Xbox isn't far behind.

SNES only because it was my first ever gaming console I own that my parents got me in 1993. Love it and I even now own SNES Classic. Follow by Sega Genesis only for Sonic the Hedgehog games and few 3rd party games.

I have the best memories of the Sega Genesis so im gonna go with it. I remember getting it in 4th grade and having so much fun with it.

So many great games, so many good times.

Shoutout to the original Game Boy - i had a lot of fun with that, plus it was the first handheld/console that was "mine", always shared the others with my big bro. But grandma got me the gameboy just for ME.

@Zuon: Coolyfett would have to say the PSP. Its what brought Coolyfett back into the fold after the Sega Genesis. Purchased one in 2007 before working on an oil rig. The PSP is the reason for owning a PS3 and PS4. Will most likely continue to the PS5 by 2024.

Xbox 360 because of that sleek design, great controller (made better with the Xbox one controller), amazing online experience, and amazing exclusives like

- Halo 3, ODST, Wars, Reach, and 4

- Crackdown 1 and 2

- Ninja Gaiden 2 (later on PS3, but was originally a 360 exclusive)

NES mainly because imo it has more great games than any other system, at least more of my top favorite games. Also in a way it feels like it really kick started modern gaming.

I'm torn between the SNES and the PS4.

The SNES is the system that truly fostered my love of gaming and helped form my identity as a lifelong gamer. But the PS4 has provided the most fun I've ever had in gaming. I've enjoyed almost every system I've ever owned, though, and hope to continue to support multiple platforms for the rest of my life.

PS1 followed closely by the SNES.
