Poll: What is the best Final Fantasy game? (171 votes)

Final Fantasy 1%
Final Fantasy II 0%
Final Fantasy III 0%
Final Fantasy IV 5%
Final Fantasy V 1%
Final Fantasy VI 24%
Final Fantasy VII 26%
Final Fantasy VIII 5%
Final Fantasy IX 12%
Final Fantasy X 12%
Final Fantasy XI Online 2%
Final Fantasy XII 5%
Final Fantasy XIII 4%
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn 2%

Only numbered, mainline entries are being counted (so no Tactics, no spin offs or sequels or prequels, no Type 0, no Crystal Chronicles, and so on).

It's one of the oldest, longest running series of all time- ahead of the release of the fifteenth mainline entry, I want to know, which one does System Wars think is the best? And why?

That's a tough one. I loved FF9, FF9, 12 and 14.. I'd go with 14 just due to the hours i've sunk into it.

FFVII.

There's a reason why it was that game in particular that made the series explode in popularity. And not to mention that FFVII is the game everyone wants a remake of, the most played on TwitchTv, always in the best sellers on PSN's Top 10, etc. Soon it'll get a release on PS4 too. Time goes by and FFVII is still the game people talk the most about in FF topics.

Final Fantasy X easily

If i have to rank another FF game at rank 2 i would easily give it to Final Fantasy XIII-2, that game was THE best FF13 game by SE

It's the game that made the genre in general explode in popularity. Why? Because it had insane production values and top notch CGI cutscenes before the rest of the industry got on that band wagon and played it out. It was stunning to look at, at the time, and as a result it was babies-first-rpg for much of the console gaming world. The substance was there, but it was the flash that drew in the masses.

I loved FFVII. I still find it somewhat enjoyable today.

Just make no mistake, there were plenty of better RPGs before and since FFVII, even its predecessor, FFVI and the would-be FF game Chrono Trigger.

FFVII was a right place at the right time game with tech advancements. Had FFVII stuck to SNES as originally planned, FFVIII would have been the extremely popular one instead.

I played them all up to 10. Out of the ones I played and at the time I played them I felt that 7 was the best and 10 was the worst.

FFVII is still my second favorite video game of all time.

Man you should really get to it! Remakes or not.

FFs 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 12 are all worth playing (to varying degrees).

You're a bigger jrpg fan than myself, you need to have these games under your belt. Have you played Chrono Trigger at least?

This type of thread always fascinates me just because there's so many choices.

Although further research has shown 6 and 9 are generally favorites, with 7 and 10 being runner ups.

Never played one myself entirely, but I'll make my way through one when I get the Vita back.

FFVI fo sho.

It's strange how different the results are when you use a built in poll rather than user answers. When you did this before wasn't FFVI way ahead of the pack with FFIX in 2nd and VII in 3rd?

Still early though, guess it could change.

Thats because people can vote for their favorite without being attacked for their opinion. The FFVI fanbase is rapid to the FFVII fanbase like the SMT fanbase is to the persona fanbase.

lol I don't think people are opinion shy on SW.

Could be any number of factors anyways.

Maybe in Chars other thread, FFVI was killing it in the runner up votes.

Maybe people are creaming the poll with their alts.

Or maybe just not enough people have voted yet... or maybe it's just not the same group of users posting here.. or opinions changed.

Plenty of variables, but I doubt it's because people are worried about getting their opinions attacked when that's pretty much all SW ever is.

Edit: Heh, looks like I spoke too soon anyways, FFVI pulling ahead.

FFVII, even Square Enix says so themselves.

But VI,IX and X are also great

@ConanTheStoner: I actually think there are more opinion shy people on SW than you think. People love to get on bandwagons or are afraid to get a bad rep. At least thats my perception from the time I was here.

I have no doubt that FFVII is the most popular entry in the series. Media coverage, sales numbers etc.

But you are right that there are many more factors, why this particular poll can show a different result..

Actually, I returned Final Fantasy 13 a few hours in. I completely forgot about the game. I hated how melodramatic the game was That might be worse.

I only went back to finish it recently because it was like 5 bucks.

But Crystal Chronicles were still painfully bad to me.

Which is worse? Idk

"Square Enix CEO says RPG series would be done for if a remake were made now; company first needs to make a game that beats FFVII in terms of quality, sales."

You must admit, that last word in particular carries a lot of weight. Aside from that, I'm not to eager to agree with Square on what they consider to be quality these days.

That said, FFVII is one of my favorites in the series, definitely top 5. Not hating, just not willing to concede that SE has the final call lol.

Even then, Sakaguchi had agreed in an interview that FFVI was the best, but was upset that gamers didn't buy it back then.

FFX is a top 2 game of all-time for me. FFXII was really, really good as well though.

And I spent much of my life playing FFXI. Still love that game even though I'll never get back into it again.

Thats like saying the shit I took yesterday is the best shit I've taken, its still a shit.

Anyway I voted VII, have played most of series apart from being unable to finish XII or XIII out of boredom (tried 20 hours and gave up)

Final Fantasy VII is the only Final Fantasy that got me fascinated with everything in its world, every character every town every enemy was fascinating to me.

Since Tactics is off chart I would go with IV ... or maybe VI ...

The one that I enjoyed the most as I played it more than once are IV, VI, VII, IX, X and XIII trilogy ... I didn't enjoyed that much XII or VIII as I never finished VIII and it took me a year to finish XII.

I think I'm the only Final Fantasy fan from the NES area that like XIII trilogy.

But my ultimate FF still is tactics with its very nice story and very very very deep combat.

I was going to come in this thread and say Tactics is by far the best but your criteria prevents that so...From the small amount of games I've played in the main series (I, II, VI, VII, X and XIII) I would have to give it to VI.

Fainaru Fantajî XII.

The very little I've played still, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, is incredible and could be a contender if I actually played more of it. Final Fantasy IX is great, XIII was decent, X was great, VII was iconic but not revolutionary for me... And that's really it in terms of what I've beaten or played a lot of.

Really want an easy way to play Final Fantasy VI sometime soon that isn't on my phone. :(

I haven't played any, but I hear great things about 6 and 12, but terrible things about both X and XIII. Mainly that the latter two are incredibly linear and have terrible stories.

I abhor X, but a bad story is the last criticism I would level at it- it's actually really great, with some incredible lore and backstory. The issue is with presentation more than anything else.
