Poll What is the best fighting game this gen? (51 votes)

Smash Bros Ultimate 31%
Street Fighter 5 22%
Mortal Kombat X 6%
Tekken 7 8%
Soul Calibur 6 10%
Injustice 2 8%
Killer Instinct 8%
Dragon Ball Z Fighter 6%
Other 2%

I think in terms of controls, Tekken 7 has this weighty feel that I like. I also enjoyed Street Fighter, but really disliked their business practices this gen. Mortal Kombat and Injustice 2 were fun in a casual way. Killer Instinct was hard to get into. The online is ridiculous. Haven't played Dragon Ball. Soul Calibur is fun, but the game is really lacking in presentation. The story mode is so lame. Smash Bros has been great, and really fun except it has this been there done that feel to it. I'm no fighting game expert by any means, but the game that surprised me the most out of all these was Tekken 7. So that's my vote. What about you, SW? What is the best fighting game this gen?

Dragon Ball FighterZ was pretty great. Haven't played a whole lot of it, but had great fun the little I played.

Killer Instinct is good, but sadly it's destroyed by the addition of auto combos. No idea why they'd destroy a good game with noob crap.

Injustice 2 looks pretty cool. Haven't played it, but looks pretty solid.

Soul Calibur 6 looks like a good SC, although short on content.

Tekken 7 is fun, but I got bored of it pretty quickly.

Mortal Kombat X is meh. 9 was way better.

Street Fighter 5 is meh. It's a solid SF game, but SF series overall is quite boring. Too little variation of attacks. Feels like you're just spamming the same shit over and over.

Smash Bros Ultimate is awesome. Still playing it and probably wont stop for a long time. A shitload of content makes sure you're never bored with it. My vote goes to Smash, not much of a contest.

Western: Mortal Kombat X.

Eastern : Tekken 7.(Which managed to beat out SF V)

Couldn't agree more I'm actually replaying it now and it's still super good.

Street Fighter 5 is best fighting game I've played this generation.

Unfortunately it's gold ingot wrapped in shit, continuing to collect shit.

I also really liked KOF14, but that game was dead on arrival thanks to no crossplay.

Tried hard to get into DBZF, but watching your characters take 20 second turns of drawn out combos, with a combat system that wholly favors aggressive play was not my thing at all.

Tekken 7 and SFV for me. SF started as a dumpster fire but finally got great.

SFV and Tekken

The best thing about a fighting game is spacing and the neutral. I feel like the two above games do it best. I haven't played King of fighters, but I assume it also has great neutral.

SF5, even when it released barebones it still had amazing gameplay and characters. Now that its been revised a bunch of times, new modes and characters its untouchable.

Tekken 7, didn't like it at first but a year later In really enjoying it. Probably my favorite 3d fighter this gen.

MKX, best MK game to date. Great cast, best gameplay for the series to date ( but still way behind games like SF). Had a lot of fun with this one.

Worst, Injustice 2. Yeah it has a lot of content but the gameplay is just meh and boring.

Dragon Ball FighterZ has been the most fun I’ve had with a fighting game in a long time. The ease of play but the depth are amazing. And it truly uses the source material to its potential.

As a huge MK fan I have to go X. Street fighter let me down with the bare bones I expected more it's good now but it left a sour taste.

SF5 in its current state is definitely the best fighting game right now.

It's difficult to think of a better adaptation.

Just wish the fighting was closer to SF, I don't like the long massive combo chains or teams.

Smash is a party game. I never bought it as a fighting game whether it's in evo or not. A game that can be played with 8 players is not a fighting game.

Injustice 2 for me.

I never played the first but i was expecting it to be good. And man, it smashed my expectations delivering hours of content in a really neat universe with really fun characters.

Was probably my most "unlooked for" great game of 2018. If you haven't played Injustice 2, you are really missing out.

I'm gonna go with this. Nintendoboy16 said it perfectly and I enjoy both Super Smash Bros Ultimate & Dragon Ball FighterZ this gen has to offer.

But overall, I put more hours into Killer Instinct the most and still play it to this day. (I main Aria & Arbiter)

Unfortunately you're right. Due to budget reasons, one of SNK's biggest talents, god tier untouchable 2D sprite work has been forced to move towards 3D. It just looks utter trash in comparison, a generation behind.

Also it's always funny watching forum users talk about "skill cap", like they think they are at Evo level to deduce the differences at any real relevant critical level. Or the assumption "accessible" = bad

Conan's probably reading this and having a right giggle.
