What if Id Software released Doom 4 last gen?

Hello friends,

So i have been thinking that what if id software released this game during last gen instead of what we got Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal?

This was the Doom game that they were making and it was looking so bad that they have to cancelled it. it was basically call of doom with ironsight, regen health and slower gameplay. and instead developement restarted and we got Doom 2016 which become huge success and is getting sequel this year.

imagine if we live in alternate world where Doom 4 released during last gen peak time of modern military shooters. would id software would be shutting down? especially after the backlash they got from Rage 1.

Rage 1 was better than Rage 2

The New Order is basically a last gen (running on ID Tech 5) version of DOOM 2016. Machinegames absolutely nailed it with that game and it has great shooting.

Would be called dated and nostalgia fulled.

Rage 1 was better that 2 because it was made by id and 2 is made by avalanche.

new order was nothing compare to Doom. it was more like any other COD like FPS.

You are acting like DOOM 2016 has big open levels that aren't corridors? Hahahahaha

Wolfenstein TNO levels > DOOM 2016 levels

Also Wolfenstein TNO is a better shooter than DOOM 2016 simply because it has reloading.

Rage 1 > DOOM

Doom 3 > DOOM

COD > DOOM

ok. I rather play my FPS to feel badass fast paced non stop fun. and yes foundry level was quite open. new order levels are straight linear with cutscene after cutscene, with mediocre shooting.

look how successful id software is. look at thier newest game Doom Eternal and compare it to machinegames youngblood how bad it is.

I actually think Rage 2 gunplay is much better then Doom 2016 but nothing has topped F.E.A.R. yet which is amazing.

I quite like the look of that cancelled Doom 4 game.

Too bad Quake didnt get the same reboot treatment. Now its just dead.

I'm still waiting for a story-driven, non-arena Quake V in the vein of Quake IV. That was an underrated game imo.

Yeah I can't believe someone actually said that and meant it. Total lack of awareness of gaming history. Not even that long ago.

@mrbojangles25: Its a moot point. The damage is already done. Bethesda keeps trying to ram it down peoples throats by making a pro-league with the same 30-40 players just cycling over and over.

Their last game was Doom VFR. The New Order was insanely succesful and sold really well, what are you on about?

new order was just as bad as wolfenstein 2. things get manage to become worse once wolf 2 released and youngblood is final nail in coffin.

machinegames are by far worst FPS developer today. even COD games are not as bad as wolfenstein. infact compare to wolfenstein, COD games are masterpiece. that show how bad wolfenstein games are.

Wolfenstein 2 is sitting at a higher steam score than ID software's last game: DOOM VFR.

Simply put:

Machine games > ID software

the VR and mobile games doensot count. id last game is Doom 2016 and next is Doom Eternal.
