What happened to SW bets?

I wish to know the reason, since SW bets was set up to keep fanboys/gamers in check for hyping games like Scribblenauts or Uncharted 2 as the second coming. A Forza Motorsport 3 VS Gran Turismo 5 group bet is sorely needed in light of the insane number of threads created about it.

I usually think they are dumb, but I could go for a Forza/GT5 bet.

It got removed becuase they used video games as prizes for winning a bet or something.

For me, i would say that was probably the golden period of SW. SW bets and offcial hype threads actually gave some sort of structure to this place. Now days even if a game sells well and scores AA/AAA it can still be called a flop for some obtuse reason.

We as the users here need way more power. Its like things happen behind are backs for no reason and no explanation. I say we should be allowed to vote on bigger matters (Yes, i know about the T&C).. TC, you should include a poll asking if it should be brought back.

And like Jack said, it was probably too fun for this place.

Basically, Subrosian moaned, people (mostly from Avant-game :?) started to try and derail the thread by always questioning its existence (despite it's popularity) using the fact that it occasionally went off topic even though it was actually them turning it off topic with their self righteous and petty objections, ironically. It was unstickied anyway because of that backlash, them the mods ruled it illegal and deleted all of it.

I don't understand why mods can't allow the community to flourish, the community is very important, and catering it can be advantageous for this site.

Yeah i'd also like to know too. I wouldnt actually put it past Subrosian, annoys me to hell and back.

The official reason for shutting it down was "gambling," although apparently that was a line we hadn't crossed until it was six months old, and they had to delete all traces of the thread's existence before we could change whatever it was that did cross that line. Even if what we were doing was technically illegal, they handled the situation in the worst way possible, and we (The SW Bets crew and the SW board)are still owed an apology.

All the drama with Subrosian and the mods and all that looked to be mostly over right before the thread was deleted. Even if he did have something to do with its demise, the blame still falls on the staff for taking action without giving us any warning or time to change the thread.

We were thinking about doing that, but Casey warned us (gasp! :o)that we couldn't do that, so we never did.
