Poll What gives you the sense of Pride And Accomplishment ? (37 votes)

Playing fun and enjoyable games. 84%
Playing high rated games. 16%

For me it's the first one since that is the main purpose of the video games and games as whole.

Just a game gets high MC score doesn't mean that it's more enjoyable compare to other games with lower scores. These scores are based off of hype trains and amount of money the publisher will pay to defend their game. Not any value outside of avoiding the complete broken games.(Games below 40 MC scores) But still even sometimes the broken games are more fun to play compared to some super polished games.

And funny how many warriors here are like:"Lol . My A System got better MC score games compared to you." Instead of focusing on the amount of the fun that the game provides.

Metacritic means crap as most of best games have 80 on metacritic. majority of 96 on metacritic are by big companies like rockstar ie very overrated.

I agree that MC is crap but I completely disagree that Rockstar is overrated specially when they are doing open world much better than all their competitors.(And all their open world games have good sandbox design which their competitors mostly lack or even if they have they have a boring worlds)

I dont know that I feel the need for pride, never give it much thought honestly.

Accomplishment for me is a bit more abstract, I dont think about it but I like to get there, but once there I move on the second I am bored.

Why would a consumer get a sense of pride or accomplishment from buying something when they had nothing to do with its production?

I know the types of games i like and the ones i dont like. For the ones i dont like the MC score means little to me since i wont play them anyways. I wouldnt dare saying they're bad games, though. For the ones i like MC is usually a good indication of quality if you combine the review scores and user scores. High review scores and low user scores is normally a good indication of overratness.

OK, why would you feel pride? What is there to feel prideful for? You didn't design anything there. You have nothing to do with that video games creation.

Do you go to random High School graduations with a sense of pride watching other peoples kids get their diplomas? That's how asinine your question is...

Sorry, I didn't get the reference. But if a developer said it, they were just playing to gamers odd sense of loyalty.

for a game to give me a sense of pride/accomplishment, it needs to be really challenging.

so, doesn't really line up with either of the poll options

After 6 weeks of working on a heavily fire damaged ship, that was being chopped up around me, I get a huge sense of pride from managing to get home alive and in one piece. Any importance of video games kinda pales in comparison. Though I did buy a PS4 Pro (I was really bored at night and there were no bars near our accommodation) and managed to get 98% completion in Spider-Man :) Can't be arsed re-doing challenge missions to get enough tokens for all the suits, so it's going to stay at that.

Definitely fun and enjoyable games. I'll often play something and hate it, sit on it for a few months then go back and become addicted to that same game for weeks. Just depends on my mood I guess.

Metacritic is pretty worthless. They strip away any meaning the review has until you're left with a number representing a subjective experience had by someone that is not you.

@plnkrlbbonscars said:

Boom! It's even more satisfying knowing that I really wouldn't enjoy them anyway because EA, Ubisoft and Activision games are pretty boring.

Well reviews can be useful. Particularly if you are familiar with the reviewer and feel that they share similar tastes and dislikes (give me a certain few YouTuber opinions over a gaming website review any day).

Metacritic is bad because it emphasizes the score, which is turned in to an out-of-10 rating regardless of the original review scale. Even worse, you have websites like GS that seem to use a logarithmic scale where 8 is average instead of 5 and 5 is considered downright terrible. So what does Metacritic mean? A whole lotta nothing.

A game being fun is the most important thing. If you're forcing yourself to finish a game just because you want to get your moneys worth or driving yourself insane over a trophy or achievement then you are probably playing games for the wrong reason. They're meant to be fun. Not a chore. Or at least they should be but there are devs like Ubisoft who would rather turn games into chore lists these days.

Well, for starters, whenever I start getting a sense of pride and accomplishment when playing video games I try to stop and remind myself that I'm playing a freaking video game.

Not that there's anything wrong with playing video games, but unless I'm making money off of them and using them to put a roof over my kids' heads, they're entertainment. Not a whole lot of reason to get snooty about that.

Anyway, more to the point: I generally gravitate towards games that are relatively highly rated, but that's not a reward in and of itself. If I hate the game and have no fun playing it, I don't care how many people gave the thing 10 stars. Again, it's entertainment, and knowing that it was highly rated sure doesn't stop me from thinking that it's not any fun. So yeah...I prefer fun over high ratings. That's not dismissing high ratings though. If a game doesn't score at least relatively highly, then I'm likely to not waste my time with it. After all, there are plenty of 9/10 games that I played and disliked, but I have NEVER liked a game that got something like a 3/10. If THAT many people think it's THAT bad, then they're probably not all wrong.

I used to feel pride and accomplishment playing games, then I realised that nobody in the real world give 2 shits how good you are at games or what games you've finished.

My P&A these days comes from my daughter and the fact that I went from an overweight, heavy smoking slob to a lean, non-smoking, fitness freak who ran a 10k in 48 minutes and now training towards a half marathon.

This is a poll in which people in SW will LIE like a rug. Like polls between graphics and gameplay in which so many claim to prefer gameplay but more often than not the most talked about things are graphics.

Everyone will say "having fun is what's important" and fun of course is a subjective feeling humans experience. Some people find it fun to go out and shoot deer, I don't. I experience no joy in doing this but I understand others do and that's cool. But in SW, if you like a game that didn't score well and talk about what you enjoy in it you will be told you are damage controlling. LOL Lies, folks

@dorog1995: Well playing a game I enjoy that is a just a form of entertainment for me, if I get a sense of accomplishment it is usually if I overcome a challenge after practicing and for that I need some kind of challenge. I don't get a sense of pride, it is just a hobby/pastime for me, but I like the fact that I have a hobby I really enjoy, I see many people often that do not have that and sometimes seem bored. It's important to cultivate some interests and stay active for me, but pride/accomplishment usually comes from other things like keeping a regular exercise routine, takes a lot of work for me

If anything, I think it's the other way around. I think (or at least hope) that pretty much everyone here plays games for fun and that the standard System Wars bickering is more of a silly game.

At least, I would hope. I'm sure there are a few people here who really are serious about that stuff.

Last major sense of accomplishment in gaming was beating ninja gaiden 2 on master ninja or Conan on king mode.

This gen was prolly getting seriously 4.0 on gears 4 lol those ribbons can be a pain to get.
