Can't remember any games, lol. I remember getting a lot of comic books though.

Donkey Kong Country sounds like a kick-ass gift! If you are still into this type of game, check out Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair, it's made by the same people.

Final Fantasy 2 and John Madden Football for SNES. We were peaking around before Christmas and found them in my mom's closet, but were terrified she thought they worked for our regular Nintendo. Luckily we found the SNES in the trunk of her car a little after that.

I think the biggest one that sticks in my mind, is my bro and I getting a Dreamcast with Sonic Adventure, Soulcalibur, Powerstone, and I think a couple others that I forget.

Does disappointment, sadness, and regret count as gifts?

Seriously, the thing I remembers getting a SNES when it first released with Super Mario World.

Xmas of 91 my aunt won a Super Nintendo with Super Mario world at a grocery store raffle and wrapped it up for me.

Xmas of 96 (not a kid anymore) my wife got me the N64.

Probably the biggest gaming related presents I got for Christmas one year was a PS1, with Time Crisis and the gun peripheral. I had such a blast!

I remember getting an original Game Boy, that was pretty special.

I remember when my mom went back to school, we got a computer around Christmas because apparently typewriters were out of style :P Then we had to get a CD-Drive (yeah, I know...) and it came packaged with a whole bunch of Lucasarts games; I'm talking The Secret of Monkey Island, Loom, and Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe.

Aces over the Pacific was another one; my dad and I would take turns dogfighting aces, see who could shoot them down faster. I still maintain the AI in that 20+ year old game is better than most games today.

And of course I remember the game that changed it all. That game that came that one fateful winter in 1998. That game was...Half-Life.

The Atari 2600 and Pac-Man was my first game related Christmas gift. The funny thing was my parents let me open the wrong box first because it had the game in it so I knew that the system was in the other box.

I played a lot of 2600 that was a hand me down from my aunt. I remember unwrapping the 5200 the year it came out, my first new console. I was so pumped! But I think the year I got a NES w/ Super Mario Bros and Mike Tyson's Punch Out (along with a TV for my room) had to be my absolute favorite.

Probably the one that really sticks out the most and my favorite Christmas gaming present that my Parents got me is this game:

And when it came with the Duel Shock controller for the first time, it change my gaming style how it feels and I spend so much time playing Ape Escape after school. Great Christmas presents and thanks Mom/Dad.

I still have that game when Looney Tunes was still a thing, but I like Taz SNES more so. Always felt sorry for Wile 'E' Coyote, he deserves better.

Two that really stands out are lands of lore 1 from my parents, was such a great game back then and really loved it to death. Was one of the games that really ignited my love for rpgs. Also got the second and third one later, sadly none of them came close to the first one!

Second game is Monkey island 2, got it from my aunts new boyfriend, and needless to say I Worshipped him after that, sadly he apparently was a bit of a dick to my aunt, so he didn’t stick around for two long... still have fond memories of the monkey island games though:)

Loads from the microcomputer age when games and game collections were £5 each new to the 16/32-bit era when games were the best. Target Renegade, Bad Dudes vs Dragon Ninja, Yee Ar Kung Fu, Street Fighter 1, Sabre Wolf, Jet Set Willy, Barbarian 1+2, Road Rash, Road Rash 2, Streets of Rage, Jungle Strike, Sonic 2, Sonic & Knuckles, Shadow of the Beast 1+2, Speedball2, Syndicate, Cannon Fodder 1+2, Night Trap, Mortal Kombat. All of those I got for Chrimbo, I remember opening Mortal Kombat the most because I didn't think my parents would ever let me have it, let alone buy it for me.

I probably missed a few and there's a few I remember but can't remember the names of.

I recieved several games for christmas and or birthdays, but the one that really stands out is Mario Paint, just due to how different it was from anything else I had played on the snes.

Ended up giving it to my cousin, who probably drops turds with more artistic talent than me.

I think I only got games three times on Christmas from my folks when I was a kid. First was the SNES with Super Mario World. Then Super Mario All-Stars, my mind was blown away by how much content that game had. Then they bought me and my brother Killer Instinct and Speedy Gonzales and Los Gatos Bandidos (strange combination), still played the hell out of both.

I generally always got a game for Christmas. Always a bright spot to look forward too. Here are some that I remember and they aren't necessarily in order.

  • Battletoads (NES)
  • Ninja Turtles 3 (NES)
  • Jurassic Park (GG)
  • Power Rangers (GG)
  • Sonic & Knuckles (Gen)
  • Playstation system (1995)
  • Ridge Racer (with system)
  • Destruction Derby (with system)
  • Twisted Metal 2 (PS1)
  • Tomb Raider 2 (PS1)
  • MGS (PS1)
  • Gamecube system (2001)
  • Smash Bros (with system)

That was essentially the end of my childhood. My wife (girlfriend at the time) got me Prince of Persia Warrior Within (PS2) our first Christmas together.

I generally get myself a game to open on Black Friday these days. This year, however, I decided to go retro. Found myself a copy of Double Dragon for Fame Gear at a local shop and couldn't resist. I tested to make sure it works and now it sits in my stocking waiting.

The real shift for me though is watching my kids get excited for their Christmas games. This year they are getting Yoshi for Switch.
