I recently finish RTCW which is awesome game. And then I go back and try The New Order

- 30 seconds of unstoppable credits

- Click "button" to continue"

- Click "button again to continue"

And then I'm basically playing this.

And then I message saying "please shift + Ctrl"

And then I realize you can't quick save, it's a barrage of checkpoints.

And the cutscenes won't stop.

People seem to like this for some reason, calling it a great shooter, one of the best in years - very odd

@uninspiredcup: Why should you be able to quick-save? That would be like having a built-in cheat system.

Depends on how it's used. Checkpoint systems essenailly force multiple quick-saves as well as segmenting content with no ability to revisit it without replaying through a barrage of cutscenes.

RTCW itself uses autosaves for the start of the level, the rest is up to the player - one of the many reasons this sucks butt while RTCW is man game.

Plenty of games, not gonna list them all, but some major ones would be TW3, HL2 and the GTA titles. Though I do understand why people like those games, I guess I just don't understand why they're so willing to gloss over some of the more glaring issues and treat them like all time greats.

I do agree about TNO. I've been trying to get into it for a while, but not having much luck. It's not a bad game, just doesn't do much for me.

OK. I don't see the problem in Call of Duty: United Offensive exactly. That game shines the most in multiplayer, though. It's still a lot of fun and hasn't aged one bit.

Nothing against Call Of Duty - just going from RTCW to TNO is like swimming in a pool of milk then swimming in a pool of shit that everyone has told you is milk, but is actually shit.

Fallout 4. I gave it a good old try and got sooooo bored! I wanted to search for my son since they made it so evident in the intro that this was my main priority. Instead I'm collecting cans and bottled and eating radioactive roaches and shit. I dunno some of it is pretty good but I don't get the hype behind it.

I completely agree with you on the difference between RtCW and NWO. I couldn't play more than a couple of hours of NWO and have had any urge to go back.

MGSV was garbage, people seemed to enjoy that

I also can't fathom why Uncharted is the hit that it is. Sure the games play well and they're well made but they are so easy and incredibly repetitive. They'd make far better movies than games

Uncharted is a big one. The game is a linear, boring roller coaster ride.

The New Order I also became fairly bored with halfway through. But, I remember you could skip the cutscenes, because I remember skipping them near the end... Maybe I'm mis-remembering.

Far Cry is becoming incredibly mundane. Not sure how people can keep shelling out money for the franchise.

Fallout 4 was also mediocre. I understand why some people might like that one, though. Same with Skyrim, Fallout 3, and Oblivion.

Assassin's Creed games are also all the damn same. Became bored after the 2nd one(which was probably the best one).

Sports games- Same every year with a new coat of paint.

Annual shooter rehashes- Also same every year with a new coat of paint, at least BF is trying to mix it up kinda.

Uncharted series- Looks damn nice, but the gameplay is paper thin.

Overwatch- was fun at first but desperately needs more content other than attack/defend mode and the reward system is useless.

Anything with Telltale Games on the box- Just cant understand why people enjoy playing a movie with an occasional button prompt. Easy trophies/achievements I guess?

Most the time it's not a mystery, it's just fanboys making out their exclusives to be more important than they really are. There's no mystery here at all, that's just the politics of fanboyism.

I'll tell you why I don't think The Walking Dead is all that bad: because of the choices leading down different plot branches. Otherwise I think that your criticism is valid. Not all Telltale games are as lacking in interaction though.

Pokemon and half the other stuff that comes out of Japan, Yu-Gi-Oh, Beyblade.

I get collecting things, I had a card collection at one point, still have it somewhere. I just find the gameplay ridiculous and the premise ridiculous. The kind of thing that I would think should keep children occupied but now a group of young/adult adults occupied.

I do laugh at the dark twists on pokemon story though,

"Coming of age, children are thrown from their homes to live in the wild, forcibly train monsters to do there bidding and in turn have them fight to near death. Hopefully to be crowned the most prominant unemployed animal abuser in all the land"

@spicymeatball27: I'm surprised that so many people are surprised Uncharted 4 is linear and filled with tons of conversation. The whole franchise has basically been a movie series on a video game platform. It's exactly what I expected it to be. I can totally understand why people don't like the series in general but the hate surrounding the latest game confuses me.

@vaidream45 Its cuz the pacing is BAD. The game never picked to overdrive but stayed on Neutral the whole time. Only time was Chap 11 E3 2015 scene. They literally combined ALOT of puzzles with *Forced walking* numerous times all the way till the end. Alot!!! of chapters had NO gunplay not even the last 2 chapters which was a QTE boss. Nadine like i said was dumb. Linear/ let computer do wat it wants.

To many issues plaque Uncharted 4. Look at Uncharted 2. You had LOTS of epic Gameplay!!!! The whole train scene. The tank where u use a zipline/ rocket launchers to take it out in that village. The truck scene jumping from truck to truck which felt epic!! The part where u run from Lazarvich in the rain then catching Elena from falling etc etc. All that was pure Gameplay!!! epicness.

Uncharted 4 is the opposite & u can tell something was off about this game. Most likely the firing of many employees at Naughty Dog. Hell they even took out the main theme in Uncharted at the main menu WTF? Instead we get Silentness!!! ZzZZz. With a dull background ZzzzZ. Its just a bad game cuz of lack of gameplay

You lems are still salty as fvck over the AAAAE masterpiece. Go watch the Quantum Flop 6/10 TV show again and cry yourself to sleep.

That's how it works with fetishes for me. If I can rationally explain why people are into a certain thing then it kinda works for me too. Unless the reason is 'they don't know better'. Or (kind of the same answer) them not making certain associations that you do.

No I get why people like a lot of things I don't like.

-Video game stories for instance: More than enough people aren't always looking for something well written, just "fun" enough or "entertaining" enough on a basic level, no different than when people go to see Transformers. It's a dumb popcorn flick. Me I'm even picky with the dumb popcorn flicks. Bad Boys 2 will do, but Transformers? no thanks.

-Games that are super easy: because they don't necessarily want to be challenged, the thing they want to do is unwind. Especially something like Wii Sports for soccer moms. I get that.

-Loot based games: Because it's a compulsive skinner box, there is a constant sense of reward thanks to the carrot on a stick.

-Call of Duty: multiplayer

-Creepy ass virtual novel stuff with fan service: pretty much explain themselves.

-Bethesda games: what they lack in good game mechanics (something I hold pretty dear) they make up in making pretty enjoyable sandboxes to have fun and explore, they know how to make a cool amusement park.

-Rockstar: their games ooze atmosphere, they have some of the more technically impressive offerings on consoles, and their settings are believable.

I'd carry on, but no any game I supremely dislike, I get why people like them. Now I'm not saying all my reasons are flattering, some of them are dickhead as **** and are summed up "people who like that game, like shitty things", it's smug as ****. But, beyond that, I am self aware enough to recognize that other people will like shit they like. Contrary to this forums opinions of my many sins, actually being bothered and telling people to not like thing, is not one of them.

If we were to discuss an individual game, I'd say my piece, and I'd be blunt about it. But the other person liking it or disliking it is whatever to me, mazel tov.

That is very very interesting to me. I like that you gave it some thought. The examples you gave are good examples. They would work for me. So I can't understand why someone likes it without starting to like it myself. And you can.

If I would follow one of those trains of thought and play a game then I would like it. Now I have to wonder who of us is the crazy one. Maybe you keep more things in mind than I do while playing a game. Like there isn't much room for me to get negatively impacted by the other aspects of the game. When I think about what people like about a game, I focus on that aspect of it automatically and because of that it kind of 'grows'... or maybe more accurately gets close enough to obfuscate the other things. It's the thing about this game and everything else becomes less important. Maybe that's the difference. Like taking a different position on a mental map.

Do you get sucked up into a game easily? Like, someone calling you but you don't hear it because you're in the zone? I have that real fast. That's interesting. Maybe I'm standing closer to the game mentally and therefore not seeing as much of it as you do. Seeing the trees and not the forest. We need a sociologist or something.

I do a podcast on games with my mates, and I sort of wanted to do my own site on stuff. So I play and hear enough reactions to get a general idea of why someone likes a thing. That doesn't necessarily mean I agree, or even need to agree. Just understand and move on. Plus I like reading a lot of stuff and watching a lot of stuff on game design. I like playing a game and looking at how all the pieces come together to evoke something or create a certain response out of the player.

There is nothing really crazy about it, it's just a matter of, of the things I'm going to bitch about when it comes to video games, one of them isn't going to be "I just do not get why people find this fun?" or whatever, because that's a bit too pompous. Maybe Animal Crossing might fit, because that game is a work simulator, but structurally it's skinnerboxish, so even then I get it. Plus it's visually charming, the music is rad, the gamecube had these neat minigames in it.
