What games are underrated in your opinion?

I think Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a little underrated. It got a 87 on MC, and I think it's definitely more of a 90 or more game. Compared to what gets put out there, it definitely deserves it. The story, the combat, all really, really good for an RPG. GameSpot gave it a 10, which is a bit generous, not sure if I would go that far. Returnal also deserves a little more of a higher meta score. It's one of the most brilliant shooters in a while.

How about you, SW? What games are underrated in your opinion?

Lots of 'em. Off the top of my head, Gun and Codename S.T.E.A.M. stick out. Gun is an open world action game set in the old west. The shooting and horse riding is fun and it will give you some thrills. It was an Xbox 360 launch game and it kinda got swept under the rug by PGR3, Call of Duty 2 and Perfect Dark Zero.

Codename S.T.E.A.M. is a turn based strategy game for the 3DS. It's got some mind blowing cutscenes. I don't know if the developers intended for it to be so over the top, but either way, they're hysterical. I would say that the cutscenes are better than the game itself.

Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team - Bite-sized twin-stick shooter that's fun and doesn't overstay it's welcome.

The Swapper - Small puzzle game, with a pretty cool mechanic.

Guacamelee - Easily one of my favorite side-scrollers. Great soundtrack too.

Most Shiny games.

MDK. Giants Citizen Kabuto. Messiah etc...

I thought you meant shiny like.. games that have a box art that's shiny.

@dracula_16: codename steam gameplay does gets boring after a while. I personally loses interest after chapter 5 or so.

Silent Hill Shattered Memories

Halo infinite. What a fantastic game. Tunic is awesome too.

LiveALive on switch. One of the more charming RPGS Ive played in years and it doesn't over stay it's welcome.

Metro trilogy is incredibly underrated. one of the best trilogy of all time.

The order 1886. I actually really enjoyed this game and want a sequel. I know it got a massive amount of hate, but I only paid 10 bucks for it.

Days Gone. Was very surprise how good it was, but i played it free on PS5

Antichamber, its easily a 9.5/10. Eurogamer gave it 6/10!?!

personally I would rate the FFVII Remake 8/10. Id score it less than that TBH, but im trying to judge it from the perspective of someone that never played or wasnt a big fan of the original, so im ignoring the changes to the story which are the worst thing about it IMO. Yes, even worse than the Honey Bee Inn, extreme cringe dance off..

Halo Infinite. Should have got the 11/10 nod. ;o

Perhaps when Forge and Coop are done it'll get the rereview and much deserved 15/10. :P

Supraland. Small indie game that takes inspiration from Metroid, Zelda, and Portal. It is good silly fun.

I guess it is not so much underrated, but more of a hidden gem. It gets good reviews.

am I allowed to say Metal Gear Solid 4, The Last of Us 1, The Last of Us 2, Metal Gear Solid 5? all three are mids 90s on metacritic, 10/10 scores from most of the big sites but they don't get enough praise for being the GOATs of videogames.

Dark Souls 3 is also criminally underrated. IMO the third best game of the PS4 gen (MGS5 and TLOU2 #1 and #2). Sekiro 4th best. Doesn't get praised enough

I am find the TLOU games to be good, but not great. I have never played MGS5 yet. But MGS4.....yeah, that game is SICK. Sekiro, I tried by got my ass kicked into next week and gave up.

I would like add the original Red Faction and original Far Cry multiplayer.

Dead Rising series, except perhaps no. 1 which was pretty flawed. Dead Rising 3 is probably the most underappreciated console exclusive in video game history.

Days Gone. It is a masterpiece.

Mass Effect Andromeda. Crappy running animations, but who cares? It's a brilliant game.

Darksiders Genesis

It did so many things well and showed where the Darksiders series should go.

That's OK. It's not for everyone. I guess the developers were hoping to appeal to Fire Emblem fans. That may be why Fire Emblem characters could be used in Codename S.T.E.A.M (via Amiibos).

Suikoden V. Its the better Suikoden II.

It is a good game, but Darksiders should go back to its roots. Darksiders 1 was a great mix of Zelda and God of War. I would consider Darksiders 3 underrated as it was actually a good 3D metroidvania on PC, but it had issues and ran like shit on consoles.

I really want a game with all the horsemen though. I feel Genesis showed how it should be done. There is no way they are going to have a budget that allows them to compete with something like God of War. Genesis was like a Mix of Diablo 2 and Zelda. It would allow them to so something unique and give us a great opportunity for 4 player Co-Op.

@silentchief: I was referring to the old style God of War games from PS2 and PS3 era. Darksiders 1 was clearly inspired by those games and did a good job with the combat.

I have a feeling that Scorn will be a game that most will ignore because it looks disgusting, but it'll be a pretty unique and immersive experience. The sound design in that game is god damn amazing.

ITT: Games that are well decorated or highly recognized, but somehow are underrated.

Probably not as dumb as calling FF7R underrated because it should have 0.3 more on MC though.

They were a developer partly funded from Livingston Scotland, who lived quite near me IRL.

One of the running gags in MDK, instead of American cities, the aliens would attack obscure towns/villages no one has ever heard of and of no consequence the developers lived in.

If this was modern day they'd have to explain the joke.

Something can still be popular and loved and still be considered underrated.

You could literally have something at 99% and feel the lacking 1% was undervaluing it.

I guess, but that is silly to me. I consider few played it, few bought it, or few rated it highly to be good reasons to call something underrated.

The most recent one that comes to mind is Freedom Planet 2. It has an "overwhelmingly positive" review status on steam, but it had an equivalent of a stealth drop release even though it had been in development for seven years. It'll probably get more recognition when it hits consoles though.

I agree with this assessment completely. I've been looking through the comments here and I'm finding games that I would definitely not say were underrated. I was even going to pose the question myself as to what people are defining underrated as, which the definition is: rated or evaluated too low; underestimated or undervalued

TemTem is the best Pokemon game I've ever played and I've been a fan since gen 1. The monsters, the combat, the leveling, the skills, the end game, the multiplayer.

TemTem is the greatest Pokemon game of all time.

Tomb Raider. Nobody talks about it anymore

Mad Max. Came out in 2011 I believe. I thought it was a great title.

It came out in 2015 but it felt like it was 2011. I also agree it's underrated Avalanche studios best game IMO.

Bioshock strength was story and atmosphere.

gameplay was meh.

Bioshock 1 had amazing storyline with one of the best villain ever.

Bioshock 2 have same setting but inferior story and far inferior villain.
