What Game(s) Would Make You Buy Next Gen Day 1?

With next gen right around the corner (more than likely next year), I thought it would be fun to imagine possible games that could be in the works for next gen systems. Put aside your trolling for a sec and let's hear what would get you excited enough to buy a next gen system (can be anything you consider to be next gen including a better graphics card for the PC players). Use your imaginations a bit.

For me to automatically buy day one would be one of the following...

I would love to see a dark and gritty Ninja Turtles game. Let it have 2-4 player online co-op (like side missions/stories and an arena wave mode) but have an emphasis on a great single player campaign as well.

Have more realistic graphics with third person view and ditch most kiddy oriented crap. Still let Mikey have his occasional one liners. Allow for violence using the weapons such as dismemberment of limbs with Leo's swords and eye gouging with Raph's sai.

Maybe having comic-esq story telling for the cinematics a la the first couple Max Payne games would be cool given the Turtles comic book origins.

The second game that would make me shell out would be a Dino Crisis reboot that's a mix of the suspense from the first and the action of the second. Have it done on the same engine and gameplay mechanics as RE2 Remake with the same camera.

Keep Regina and Dylan. Allow for online co-op in the vein of RE5 without a crappy AI partner when playing solo. Have more dinosaur variation and have more location diversity including a potential underwater area.

Remember how Xbone was supposed to have DRM that checks daily that you are not running second hand games?

What about a next gen console that has online DRM that removes every single game that has lootboxes, microtransactions, gamble mechanics every 24 hours?

I'd buy that.

I thought I was going to have to make a long list, but have paired it down to 2:

• Power Stone 3
• Bushido Blade 3

There have been some good arena brawlers in recent years, but even after all this time none have been on the same level as Power Stone. And no one has even tried to make a successor to Bushido Blade. If I could have both these games on one console (or successors that truly lived up to them), I'd buy it.

STALKER 2

My most anticipated next gen title, the sequel to second best game of all time and one of the most hardcore immersive FPS game ever made.

STALKER is only game that even made Half life and Doom pale in comparision.

Realistically:

• PS5: Bloodborne 2, Gravity Rush 3, or a new Yakuza
• Nintendo: Metroid Prime 4
• Xbox: nothing

If we're talking dream scenarios, I'm really craving a good Gundam game, specifically one like Rise from the Ashes on Dreamcast. There's never been another sim-like mobile suit game in the Gundam UC universe, so that's something I'd be all over. Another dream Gundam game would be one based in the Wing universe, that's not just actually fun to play, but one that allows me to take part in all of the highlight moments of the show. I've been wanting since I used to watch GW on Toonami for a game that lets me pilot the Epyon with its badass theme music playing in the background.

But you'd have no games to play.

GTA 6

I am pretty happy with all the announced games so far on PS4/PS5. I am getting a PS5 Day One regardless.

I suppose I would pick a brand new franchise/exclusive that Sony will announce for it. Most likely we will get a teaser of something next year. We do know Naughty Dog has a second team working on something.

As for the next Xbox? Man, I have no idea what they would have to announce to make me excited. I can’t think of anything. Actually, a 3rd person Tactical Halo Shooter would make me happy.

Similar to Socom/Ghost Recon/The Division but Halofied. I want to see Master Chief the entire time.

It would be cool if they had that gameplay with a story/squad similar to how Reach went.

Nintendo has no games that could convince me to ever buy another system from them.

There’s quite a few games that make me interested in buying a next gen console for. For Scarlett I already have at least one game that’ll make me purchase one and that’s Halo Infinite.

I’ll happily buy a new Nintendo system for a new Zelda or Mario game.

Sony has some games that I enjoy like God of War or Bloodborne that would make me interested in their systems.

New entry in Nintendo AAA titles (Zelda, Smash, Mario, etc.)

Exactly, my console would keep removing them. And I'd be free from temptation to spend money on stuff that has no place in video games.

halo infinite, oh wait. Yeah I can't help it, getting both day 1 but Halo is a huge incentive.

GTA 6 and HORIZON ZERO DAWN 2

Halo, if it played like CE and had more maps and lan capability.

Socom, if it used 2 as it's inspiration and kicked ass.

Armored Core, if it fixed the scale issues, improved the story, more customization and didn't require me to use every button on the controller at once.

Or something great that I've never played before.

A good ninja gaiden game, silent hill, and/or a crono cross remake.

I would die if there was a new versus fighting game featuring capcom, SNK, Sega, and Namco.

Many Sony classics lay dormant. A new Twisted Metal or Warhawk would be welcome as well.

Max Payne 4, but it would have to be true to the previous games, instead of having the horrible movement of RDR2 and GTA5, and it would have to support a mouse and keyboard even in multiplayer. I really don't think Rockstar is capable of making a good shooter again. They've gotten too much acclaim for bad controls.

Nothing could convince me to buy next gen systems on day one. I'm fucking sick and tired of spending money on these systems and games only to be disappointed and have them lose their value so quickly.

Now a days I buy those things long after release and I save a ton of money, yet get the same experiences as those who spend the most money on day one.

I mean yeah, you get to talk about that shit with other early adopters, but you also have to put up with faulty hardware, early iterations that become phased out later on in place of better models, and game wise you play your games in the worst possible shape before 20 patches fix them.

Bloodborne 2 or another God of War = day one PS5.

@magmadragoonx4: Yeah, Capcom doesn't seem to have any interest in making a new Power Stone, or even rereleasing the old games.

They are sitting on huge catalogue of great arcade fighters, it would be nice to see something other than Street Figher once in a while.

Project Awakening, it doesn't have a release date so I'm assuming next-gen. Its being made by an ambitious Japanese dev.

Oh, yeah, Elder Rings. I bet most people forgot about that one.

- Final Fantasy XVI (As long as it's a real game and not only online)

- Persona 6

- New GTA or Red Dead Redemption

Nothing. Sony's and Microsoft's ability to avoid their best games (As far as I'm interested in) coming to the pc and the now uselessness of modern physical editions have left a very sour taste in my mouth. Don't get me wrong, I'm not mad about these games coming to the pc, it's just why would I want to spend $500 + on a piece of hardware whose software will work just fine on the piece of hardware I've already built. (Even if my current rig can't play the new games at 720p low I could always upgrade it for about $400 no problem even if I had to wait a year or so.)

Now if (And it's a big if), Nintendo does not release a switch pro and comes out with enough exclusives for the switch, then I may consider buying one at the end of the switch's mainstream lifespan. But that's a pretty big if considering how in my view they tried to pass off the beta version of the switch (AKA the Wii U) as a completely different console.

PS5/PC/Switch = nothing

Haven't seen one of those since the PS2 era.

Wow. I loved NHL 2013 on my PS3. I guess it was the competition between al of us in the barracks but it was great fun.

A former poster here that loved racers, Saltthefries, got me to buy FH2 and I was blown away. It was what I wanted from a racing game! FH3 and 4 scored higher but I don't spend others money so who cares? I never played 3 but 4 was in Gamepass and its just as awesome.

NHL19 in EA access has been a blast.

None. After the Xbone, I wouldn't buy a home console within its first 18 months to 2 years. "Fool me once..." and all that.

Any great early games, I'd just pick up later.

I usually buy games at launch just because I can. But usually games I really want only release a year in the life cycle. The game I'm most excited to see is Disgaea 6 after 5 was sucha masterpiece.

Phantasy Star V.

Day 1? Nothing would make me do that. Always wait for a few months and check reviews because most new consoles come with a few problems that need to be brought to their attention then revised. Just like with video games...always wait a bit before buying unless you are reviewer.

I don't think there is a game that could be announced which would make me day 1 the next gen consoles. I've always bought all the consoles day 1, but those days are behind me. I would rather wait for a lot of games to be available and for them to be available at a discounted price. Plus I would rather not pay full price for a console anymore.
