I was thinking about that and how I know fews games that have a cool "sword and shield" gameplay. Actually I know only one: Dark Souls. I suppose Demon's Soul is similar, but what other have an interesting gameplay? That are not just hack n slash?

Depends on what kind of sword and shield gameplay you're looking for. Obviously, Demon's Souls will more like Dark Souls than anything else you'll find. But, if you're into competitive online first/third person swordplay, check out Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. Unless you don't have a PC.
Yes it is. The swordplay is so awesome. If Skyrim had the swordplay of Chivalry it would be a dream.Chivalry is online only, no?Â

Yeah Chilvary is awesome!

Probably some of the best first person/third person medieval style combat out there. It's all about timing and precision.

cant believe i forgot about this. chivalrys is awesome but mount and blade probably takes it its close tho, both games do it so wellI'm pretty sure basically everyone who's played it agrees that Mount and Blade: Warband is awesome.

Demon's Souls. No contest, your Shields break and they're not all mighty magic tools that weight very little despite being large and heavy looking.
what a coincidence, currently playing Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen and I think it's pretty good in that department.
I have never played any of the souls games. but looking at some dark souls gameplay vids...aren't there like, fluid attack animations? because all i'm seeing is the guy being locked into an animation when hitting, and it doesn't even seem to change animation between multiple hits..lightleggy

Even War of Roses has breakable shields.

Yeah but the combat in that game sucks. I didn't think it was possible for any game to have worse combat than Mount and Blade but there is and it's called War of Roses.

So? I still didn't like it.

Why not?I've spent 100+ hours on Chivalry, probably 10 hours on War of the Roses, and probably 2000+ on Mount & Blade. Mount and Blade (quite easily) has the best melee combat. Did you play any of the multiplayer? Or actually play with auto-block off?

It just felt clunky and rough to me; no smooth transisitions in attacks. Sometimes when I went head to head with people I had the wrong weapon for the job like a polearm or just a pole and so when I got caught in corners and had to fight my way out it just felt really bad. On top of that the only slight satisfaction I get in the combat is with swords due to the visceral nature of their cold steel cutting and gutting my opponents down but otherwise clubs, poles, polearms, and whatever else they had that wasn't a weapon that had a sharp edge to it was not fun to use.
Also, no I didn't play any of the multiplayer.
I made the wrong question: Can you move while attacking? and are attacks fluid or they always take like 2 seconds (where you are completely unable to move) to complete?lightleggy
