Hello, I was watching a man shoot a Longbow in a youtube clip and wondered what System Wars would consider the best implemented bow in a video game.

It seems to me Team Fortress 2 was the best balanced one, acting as a gameplay style change to the longer distance, slower spool up of the sniper rifle, inflicting less damage but more rapidly fireable, taking into account gravity (including deflectable by the Pyro's air blast), using tight maps to remove long distance guess work. The player can also combine the bow with other characters to add additional effects acting as a buff. It seems like the perfect balance of skill and pick up and play accessibility - as with almost everything in Team Fortress 2, with suitably satisfying after shots of players pinned against walls in true loony tunes fashion.

But I'd like your opinions, as you fellows play games a lot more with many owning multiple systems.

Sony fan: Horizon

MS fan: ROTR

For future reference if you're into racers I know the best on those as well.

MS fan: Forza smokes GT

Sony Fan: GT runs circles around Forza

You're welcome. /s.

Crysis 3

I dunno, there is just something about a man wearing a nanosuit shooting aliens with his super powered bow that intrigues me.

I like how both Horizon: Zero Dawn and Rise of the Tomb Raider Bow & Arrow mechanics gameplay works well and if I got to pick which one feels more fluid in terms of gameplay, I'll go with Horizon on this one if that was the case.

I love the bows in Horizon !!!

Just wish it was a bit easier to aim with the playstation controller though, because when I'm not using slow mo half of my arrows just don't hit :P

I have very good reflexes and I gotten very use to the controllers in Horizon so I'm really good at aiming, even when I'm not using slow motion, it's easier to me that is.

Now in Rise of the Tomb Raider, I'm also good at aiming when I play it on PC with my Xbox Elite controller.

Depends on what kind of archery you want.

Mount and Blade does a really good job for the more hollywood esque archery. Providing a decent ammount of kick, and rewarding you for making distant shots, Allowing you to shoot under or above the shield to still hit your target. A single headshot will 99.9% of the time fell a target too. Or 2 body shots. Gravity, is factored in and the players has multiple options. Be it horse archery, use of shortbows for close range skirmishing, or longbows for sniping down your foes.

For something more Arcadey, I think Overwatch does an excellent job with Hanzo... despite its more arcadey nature, it may actually be more realistic than the above version. Team Fortress 2's bow feels like absolute ass compared to Hanzo, not surprising of course, since Hanzo was entirely designed with archery in mind and Source is a shit engine.

For utilitiarian purposes, I also love the archery in Thief. As Archery is a tool, moreso than a weapon.

It's just a lot of fun to have all these different kinds of arrows, and use them to the best effect :)

Fire arrows and maybe explosive tipped its more than enough for any game IMO.

The arrows hitting have to have some sort of thump to make it feel satisfying for me.

Hmmm, I agree.

But I find Horizon's combat system has something satisfying, but also it's not the best and could use some work.

Maybe because I just like and enjoy the actual game in Horizon: Zero Dawn. The Bow & Arrow just works well in this futuristic setting, using different types of arrows is a lot of fun. Tomb Raider on the other hand uses today's standard arrows which I also find it to be enjoyable and going for headshots feels weight to it so that however I can say that is missing in Zero Dawn.

The only correct answer is Far Cry 3, also I'm sorry but the bow animations in Zero Dawn are stupid AF.

Without even a little doubt, Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I fucking love using bows in that game.

Other than that, I always use a bow in Elder Scrolls and enjoy it.

The arrows in the future thing has probs been done to death, i can see why they went that way. i did like the trapcaster thing and the results were satisfying. but everything about the game just bored me s.

I dropped it after probably 25 hours. same with Mass Effect Andromeda.

i got the platinum on Ghost Recon, that was a huge grind/chore towards the end.

i just find these long winded open world third person games boring and not fun.

Plus Yakuza 0, it's a smaller hub which is a few city blocks both ways (well 2 cities, second is smaller) where the only collectables are the porn star cards that once you find them you can go to the video porn store and pay like 800 yen (in game currency and you'll have millions and billions and trillions) to watch a softcore video about a japanese girl in a bathing suit or bikini or whatever doing cute or sexy things like blowing bubbles or playing with balloons or actually kind of sexy things depending on the video and girl.

I might have wanked off to those videos like 7 or 8 times.

But yeah, beyond that there are no collectibles.

The side missions are super fun though and the only time they really have you running around the map (like far) is like when you have to deliver a pizza to a foreign girl and it's played co medically with intense music and all that because you have to get back before the pizza gets cold. Another mission has you pretending to be a girl's boyfriend because her dad wants to arrange an arranged marriage for her, etc etc.

The side missions in Yakuza are among the best in video games and the main story line is among the best stories in video games and the acting in the main story is not among the best, it is the best. Sorry but Yakuza series acting is top tier, they get quality actors and motion capture and all that and the emotions are super raw and things get super intense and all that.

What I'm saying is buy Yakuza 0, it's goty 2017 depending on if Yakuza Kiwami can match it, at which point Yakuza 0 and Kiwami are goty. Also when you love Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami is only going to be 30 bucks.

Get Yakuza 0 right now, every single person who has started the series with it say it's their goty and of course long term fans say it's their goty.

Fire and explosive arrows in Far Cry 3 (and Far Cry 4). I kinda like the animation of the privateers burning or watching an explosive arrow flip over a fast-moving jeep and throw the occupants out.

In Far Cry 4, I have no love for rhinos......

Crossbows count? Because while the name of the cross bow in Evil Within is fucking stupid, the actual weapon is a blast to use since it has that over the top headshot routine of RE4 that are satisfying as ****. It's a really versatile weapon between a flash bolt, a freeze bolt, an explosive round to set up traps for group kills, and the standard bolt just being critical hit city.

Pure act of just pulling back a bow and hitting someone with an arrow, Idk, none really stick out to me. Horizon is okay but it's right in line with what The Last of Us n Tomb Raider and all those other games feel like. Mount n Blade has a complexity to it I like, but the feedback loop itself is weak as ****.

Horizon because I've turned into a sony fanboy nah just kidding I just like the way you can fire an arrow with the controller it takes a bit getting use to but when you do get the hang of it it's pretty satisfying.

And I absolutely love the tera arrow

I haven't encountered a truly well-implemented, realistic archery in a game, but Skyrim and Far Cry 3 are by far the most satisfying.

Far cry 3 and 4, and Skyrim I suppose. I don't do a lot of archery though.
