What current gen game do you think will be considered a classic 10 years from now?

I'm going with Bloodborne. It's one of those games that came out of nowhere and really surprised me with its design. I felt like it was a product of passion rather than just appealing to commercial interest. I wish more games were like that. Loved the atmosphere and the overall art. The music and the storytelling. Even the decision to not let players have a shield, and just let them fight it out, was brilliant in my opinion. It made you play smart and face your fears. It's a very unique game that really does deserve the praise that it got. Hopefully we will see 60 FPS / 4K edition soon! And a sequel too.

So that's my choice. What about you, SW? What current gen game do you think will be considered a classic 10 years from now?

Probably a pretty good number of games. A few that spring to mind are:

- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

- Super Mario Odyssey

- Resident Evil 2 Remake

- Devil May Cry 5

- Dragon Quest XI

Well, there are some easy candidates like GTAV, RDR2 and Witcher 3.

The Witcher 3, Hollow Knight. Maybe RDR2, but I have not played it yet. I will be playing it on PC soon. :)

Nothing. (most of) video gaming has become just as mundane and regurgitated as hollywood / pop music bullshit.

No one is gonna give a shit about all these superhero movies 10 years from now.

No one is gonna give a shit about all these cinematic D-rated storyline games from now.

Maybe consider the games that have been at the forefront for 10+ years running. Like Counter-Strike, all the Mobas (which came out of WC3 mods), or the MMOs (WoW).

You're calling our current gen games D-list storyline, regurgitated and mundane bs - while you only named boring multiplayer only games that have mundane gameplay and regurgitated ideas.

Think it'll mainly be the massive open world single player games that will be remembered as the classics of this gen: GTAV, RDR2, The Witcher 3, Horizon Zero Dawn, Spider-Man, MGSV and best of all, Breath Of The Wild. I'm probably in a minority here, but I'll also add in Ass Creed IV: Black Flag, Origins and Odyssey to that list, for their worlds alone (if not always their gameplay creativity...)

The Last Of Us II isn't out yet but will almost certainly rocket into the top handful too.

Looking at the replies, I'd say many of you have a weird definition of classic. Uncharted 4? Spiderman? Detroit? Dishonored 2? Come on. These are basically forgotten about already.

Only game I can think of is, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be 10 year classic title this gen has to offer. When it comes to Nintendo titles, they always have that classic decade old feel to it.

CS is 20 years strong, but I guess its a shit game, :P

Most have already been said, but I will add Smash Bros Ultimate to the list. In 10 years I think this will be rembered the way Melee is now.

Kind of interesting to think, one of the biggest games right now is Fortnite, but in 10 years you probably wont be able to play it. Even if it's still going, it will be a very different game than it is now.

Games like Super Mario Odyssey & Inside come to mind first.

Far Cry 5. Open world greatness. All your arse is belong to me.

Cyberpunk looks to be by far best CDPR game ever made.

Witcher 3, definitely. The greatness shines through even in dynamic 720p at 15-30 fps. Doom, probably Doom Eternal too, Zelda Breath of the Wild, Uncharted 4 and God Of War 4.

but out of nowhere, John wick trilogy released and become the greatest movies of all time.

The only two that truly stand out to me are Witcher 3 and Disco Elysium. Hoping Cyberpunk 2077 will make that list as well, but we'll see.

Divinity Original Sin 2 might also make the list if I'm feeling generous. It was quite good.

Okay, I will also maybe add Cities: Skylines if we're throwing sims in there.

@guntster22: I agree with you. Absolutely loved Far Cry 5. But most gamers don't agree with us, so it probably won't be remembered as a classic. Witcher 3 is more likely to take the place.

Of the games I've played, I feel like these 3 are the strongest contenders for becoming classics.

Horizon in my opinion was a great play through even go as far as saying it was a classic. Guerilla games have proved that you can adjust and explore other genres.

A ton of them. Hollow Knight, NMS, The Witcher 3, RDR2, Astro Bot, Divinity games, etc.

There are many games that I've thoroughly enjoyed, but I would say Persona 5. Just because there's no other game like it (apart from other persona games) and it's brilliant.
