Wolfenstein II was the only real disappointment this year so far.

When I make these lists I am always so worried that I forgot about a game that should be on there. Cause I play a lot of games and it's easy to get caught up in the next game and forget about the last.

^ARMS on there. That is interesting, cool. I know there is a very happy fanbase playing ARMS and they are having their first splatfest equivalent now. Good times.

I'm not 100% about the order I put them in. These are the games released this year that I enjoyed the most. And if you disagree that is great. In the spoilers is a very short 'why'.

1. Breath of the wild. The exploration without icon hunting, NPC and world interactivity/freedom and discovery of new things after 120 hours of gameplay blew my mind and it has forever changed my interpretation of an open world game.
2. Mario Odyssey. This game is happiness in a card. It is so complete, so full of joy and creativity in such an innocent fashion. On top of keeping Mario fresh, it solves the 1up and economy problem, and contains the best moments we've ever seen in a Mario title. It is, again, a masterpiece.
3. Divinity: Original Sin 2. Divinity is a game that would be number 1 in almost any other year of gaming history. This game is player choice, and has some of the best humor ever. They put in DM mode despite not reaching the stretchgoal. Everything about this game shows how much they care.
4. Nioh. I wasn't expecting to like this game as much as I did. But I did. Oh my. I couldn't stop playing this game for weeks. This game for me, solves Dark Souls combat. No longer was I continuously rolling and then hitting. No, sir. I made 2 very effective builds with which I didn't roll once. Bravo.
5. Splatoon 2. What do we say about FPS/TPS titles? There are lots of them. Too many, maybe. Yet Splatoon 2 came out on top for me. This game lacks player aggression and replaces that with big free updates. It started off strong and is literally getting better every month. An amazing feat.
6. Prey. Poor Prey. You deserved so many more sales. You deserved more attention from us. You were this year's Bioshock, but you didn't get the recognition. Yes your story didn't have as great a revelation but your ability system and game flow were exceptionally well done.
7. Samus Returns. This came out of the left field. I may be biased on this one, because I love Metroid. I love everything Metroid (even Other M a little) and I loved every minute I spend with this game. I don't think you want me to drool all over your screen so I'll move on.
8. Shadow Tactics. Ooh I remember as a kid being intimidated by the Commando games. Hard as nails. I'm so happy they made a new one of these. And it's good! Real good. And real hard. So you better not play it.
9. Dungeons 3. I was so so so happy when I saw this on Steam! It is everything I wanted out of a Dungeon Keeper 3. The only complaint I have is DAMN the jokes are BAD! I've been trying to manifest this game into reality for years and I finally did it!
10. Horizon: Zero Dawn This is a great game. Man this year has been full of great games. I love the protagonist, I love the story telling in this game, I love the enemy designs. I had problems with the static world being a little rougher to traverse and the story itself and the game kinda went dull on me towards the end but it's really good it deserves a spot.

5. Mass Effect Andromeda (Was liking it at the beginning but when the game started bombarding me with side-quests and fetch quests left and right it ended up leaving a sore taste in my mouth. More is not always better and ME:A just confirmed that. Still not as bad of a game as some claim it to be. It's gameplay is solid at the very least)

4. Persona 5 (Definitely my biggest disappointment this year. Story and characters (supposedly this series strongest points) were very weak imo. Persona 3 and 4 were way more interesting games, story wise. P5 made something no other Persona before was able to do: made me hate a party character (Yosuke). Combat gets repetitive, a chore, and the fact the game is waaaay easier than previous Persona games doesnt help either. The dungeons/palaces are also linear tedious grinding that didnt entice to explore further. It's still a good game but NOT the masterpiece some fans where raving it to be).

3. Nier: Automata (Kinda overrated as an overall game. Bland scenarios and kinda basic combat but the story and end game were something new in this oversaturated market of "hollywoodesc stories")

2. Destiny 2 (Bungie improved a LOT the campaign portion of Destiny but completely ruined the endgame content. I had fun with it throughout the campaign but after that it just didnt grab me as much as the 1st game did. Overall, still a solid game)

1. Resident Evil 7 (fanfvckintastic game. My biggest surprise this year. Wasnt expecting it to be this good. I was a skeptic when I first saw it but Capcom made me a believer)

@Vatusus: I agree a lot with you on Persona 5 being inferior to it's predecessors, but still thought it was pretty good. As for the difficulty, I played it on hard and got my ass kicked.

Damn those are the only games I bought this year... Surprisingly few, I still haven't bought Mario Odyssey as I am still play Zelda but I will soon. Battlefield 1 and PUBG took up all my attention until Zelda the Switch launched. Also Destiny 2 is 4th by default.

My back log of games and MP only games just take up all my gaming time, a game has to be excellent for me to get it brand new.

HZD and maybe Mario vs. Rabbids look decent too but I haven't tried them yet. I heard good things about Divinity 2 as well (I'm not a fan of isometric games normally, but I'll take people's word on it being good).

It's mostly just been big name flops this year (Destiny 2, Andromeda, Battlefront 2, AC Origins, etc.).

I haven't finished any game from this year. My favourite would be zelda BOtW. Outstanding game.

Forza 7 I have been enjoying a lot, not bought a sim/arcade racer in years. Really into it though and play it more than any other game at the moment.

Game called lost wing I sunk about 30 hours in and its only early access. Defo need to give this game credit as its a lot of fun. I have enjoyed this game more than most games I played this year and it's not even finished.

Metroid - this started strong and is a good game but I got bored quite quick and doubt I'll go back. Bored of these types of games now..

NIER - Disappointed with this game! It's good but also pretty dull.. Just failed to grab my attention although the gameplay and music are solid. Technically I should love this game too.

Resident Evil 7. As soon as it turned into hide n seek like those other terrible horror games like outlast and Soma I got bored... But I'll keep playing..

I think everything else I played is from a different year.
