Nobody.

If it's something like buying up dormant IPs, or publishing a game that otherwise wouldn't happen, cool. Stuff that can benefit us.

Buying out devs with the end result being exclusive shite, nah.

I think there are very few studios who would be better off being bought.

Not a fan of the idea of companies just pulling what Microsoft did until there are no third parties left. The problem here is that if Sony refuses large acquisitions on principle, Microsoft will continue buying studios out to nudge competition out.

Sometimes when being pushed and pushed and pushed, the best response is to push back. That includes massive acquisitions.

In that case, I would like to see Sony acquire Capcom and revive series like Dino Crisis, Onimusha and Power Stone while rebooting Resident Evil completely.

Sega has also been on a roll lately. Buying them out and finishing Shenmue as well as making a new Comic Zone in the vein of Streets of Rage 4 would be phenomenal.

None. I'd rather have options on what hardware to buy games on as opposed to having them locked on Sony's ecosystem. I always buy Sony's consoles, but prefer to have the option to buy on other hardware if I choose. Especially since Sony has an automatic $10 tax to buy their games on the ps5. I prefer studios to stay independent and stay 3rd party. Just my opinion though.

But seriously, i don't want them to buy anyone, but at the same time, if they don't, MS, or even worse, Tencent will buy them, and that's bad news. Fromsoft would be perfect for Sony, but their games better be available on pc as well, and support crossplay.

The only thing I would be happy to see Sony buy is Codemasters Cheshire, and have them bring back their laid off members and reform Evolution Studios. They should make a new Motorstorm or Jetmoto.

No publishers. Nobody should want mainstay IPs to disappear into the folds of exclusivity for arbitrary reasons.

Studios? Remedy, FromSoft, Platinum, Bungie.

IPs I’d like to see them get a chance to license? Castlevania, Silent Hill, Mirror’s Edge, Mass Effect, Ghost in the Shell (Suckerpunch taking on any of those would be hype AF).

- Square Enix (Let's speed up some of these projects. Too many announcements, not enough games)

- Devolver Digital (Dude, Hotline Miami with current gen graphics would be ridiculous. Or maybe they could do like DQ XI and let you pick whether you want to play the indie version or the more realistic looking one.)

- Kojima Productions (Makes sense imo)

- Take Two Interactive (Not saying I want console exclusivity. I just feel that they need to snatch up a big, well known studio to level the playing field after that Bethesda acquisition. Maybe push out a new IP and make it exclusive idk)

Capcom, Konami, Koei Tecmo, Atlus, SNK, Square Enix (only if they bring back classic IP and fix existing ones though).

Those could all be good fits.

@Telekill:

I agree with all those opposed to the practice, BUT, MS has now set a f%^king dangerous precedence & if Sony & Nintendo don't get proactive, MS will keep swallowing up entire huge publishing giants until GP is the only choice we have, unless we only want Mario & Kratos, etc, & a the bottom tier of gaming, with very few monsters, etc....

Imagine MS buying EA, Activision, Capcom, Square Enix, & just swallowing up the industries giants everytime they hit a milestone with GP.

People are shortsighted & think GP is some gamer friendly, consumer loving ideology from MS.....or are just not real gamer's that refuse to pay for games whole, & rather just a slice of everything for a temporary small fee.

But, once MS gets rid of the competition & has all the major IP's we all enjoy....YOU WILL BE PAYING THEM BACK for all their "generosity"... MS's other divisions have bled a lot of it's money to sustain the Xbox brand, so at some point they will say, yes, it's working, you're on your own, or, we gave it a go for 15yrs or so, time to pull the plug.

But I digress, Sony really does need to keep acquiring, as when they invest in something to compete with GP (as being a realist, unfortunately it is the way it is going & PSNow is limited in scope), Sony needs to have a stable of powerhouse developers at the ready to compete.... And they need to procure some multiplayer talent. Hence Lightbox Interactive, as well as some capable fps developers to compliment Guerilla & Insomniac & possibly have these studios collaborate to make Sony's Halo/Destiny/COD.

Absolutely zero...I don't think they should gobble up anyone.

It is in no one's interest except Sony's if Sony acquires studios.

@iambatman7986:

But like MS, they could give you that option with PC & an answer to GP. If MS can just up & buy Zenimax, then to me, it is a free for all, & Sony & Nintendo NEED to respond to ensure they have a future in their business.....or they too will eventually be under the MS banner.....

That is not a future I want....it is very naive to think "None", as one is buying up HUGE publishers to start their consumption to another monopolized vision (like windows)........So, in the business world, this is akin to war.....companies need to do what is necessary to help try ensure their future... This is what MS has done with Zenimax acq.

And Sony are responding, with little, smart buys here & there...being sensible about it, as they do not have the money of MS...But, hopefully smart buys, coupled with some bangers & massive hits from these Sony studios will allow for Sony to keep buying up one off studios until smart choices, bigger profits, allow them to buy maybe a Capcom or Square Enix, etc..to keep them ready for the launch of their own answer to GP.

I'm shocked at how anti-consumer gamers online are turning out. Slam companies they don't like for being anti-consumer, but when their preferred console brand buys a studio, it's fine? I don't give Nintendo a pass on the few times they do it (Recently: Next Level Games... and don't give me the "oh they did Nintendo games anyway" bullshit).

Not even the film community forgives Disney for their mass buyouts. And don't get me started on Amazon...

@mrbojangles25:

Was it also not in MS's interest to gobble up Zenimax's mass stable of studios, Ninja Theory, Double Fine, etc, etc??? And if you are a Xbox gamer or pc GP gamer, that would also be in those consumers best interest as they are investors in MS, investing in their products under the expectation that MS's studios will deliver the gaming experiences they have invested into MS products to receive.

I know as a Sony predominant gamer, that is what I have come to expect in my investments in Sony consoles, & they haven't failed me to date. Nintendo invested gamer's share that expectation & obviously Nintendo delivers for them. MS simply had to do something as both Sony & Nintendo were burying them as far as quality awards winning software was concerned, & quantity in general also. Did they overshoot going for Zenimax rather than building relationships & trust based business with developers? well that remains to be seen by what ALL these studios deliver to their fanbase.

But as not just a Sony gamer, but a gamer in general & realist, the simple fact is, MS went nuclear with this war, & the only response to be expected by Sony & Nintendo is a nuclear response......& that means make some big moves & a lot of little subtle ones, like Sony have been doing the last few months...They need to keep gobbling up these studios that they have built relationships with, then keep building new relationships with others for future acquisitions.

The thing they haven't done yet, BUT really need to, is a big Zenimax rivaling publisher cleansweep buyout...and a very smart, strategical one.......Someone really, really big like a Ubisoft, etc... as down the track, they are going to need them.

Let me guess. Since PlayStation consoles practically sells themselves and don't need anything of what you're talking about, it must just be that your choice is Sony consoles, and you want to feel better about your fanboyism. That's cool and all, but I'd prefer as many people as possible being able to play as many games as possible. Weird, I know.

I don't mind acquisitions in certain situations. Like Microsoft buying Ninja Theory wasn't a bad thing. It was either Microsoft buys them, or they go out of business. I'd rather Microsoft buy them in that case. Sony buying Insomniac Games and Nintendo buying Next Level Games isn't that bad since those studios were making exclusives anyway.

Of course, acquisitions can be harmful. I cringe when people want Sony to buy Square Enix, when they want Microsoft to acquire EA, or when they want Nintendo to acquire Sega. Those studios are doing well on their own and don't need to be bought out. Those suggestions are literally only made with console war egos in mind.

None. I don't like that MS buys developers, but at least the games are available on PC right away and you can get them on Game Pass. What are the benefits of Sony buying a studio? Nothing.

Too many Disney shills and too many Sony shills in this world. Disney fans basically cheering on the company to monopolize the movie/entertainment industry and Playstation fans cheering for Sony to monopolize the gaming industry.

I dunno, but shills really gotta temper themselves back to a certain reality, for most shills are young and immature, and they don't fully realize the kind of repercussions this corporate romanticism can bring.
