Not all HDR games are created equal. Some look a lot better than others. What are some of the standouts for you?

So far for me I'd say: Far Cry 5(PC), Horizon: Zero Dawn(PS4 Pro), Forza Horizon 3(Xbox One X). These games are stunning in HDR. Other games like Middle Earth: Shadow of War kinda make a meh usage of HDR.

Digital Foundry had high praise for Gran Turismo Sport implementation of it.

Forza Horizon 3 & Gears 4 look quite good.

But I personally think HDR is a bit overrated.

There are only 75 games on Xbox that have it, so it won't take giovela long to pick

Oh it absolutely is overrated. "HDR is a game changer" is one of the most hyperbolic bullshit things I've heard regarding visuals. The colors look more vibrant and it definitely adds to the experience but you can really go without it. It's nothing like 60fps.

A "game changer" only really applies to the competitive environment where your win or loss is a significant thing. For the casual world, its just people wanting to brag about their "advantages" (when it comes to gaming)

You were pretty triggered about no HDR Support in the past, to now call it “overrated”.

Why such a drastic change of heart ? Lol

@GioVela2010: Of course I was. They made a promise and walked back on it. This is no way to treat your customers.

My heart hasn’t changed. HDR is nice but it’s not a "game-changer" by any means and if a promise is made to add a feature, I want it to be respected.

HDR to me is one of those features in which you have to ask yourself "Is it on?"

I used to think the same but support has been getting better and better. When I first tried it I was very underwhelmed. To the point I was actually turning it off. With games like Far Cry 5 I'm like hey, this actually looks pretty nice and I notice it right away. You don't need it but it is a cool feature to have.

The DICE games - Battlefront 2 and Battlefield 1 look great.

And of course Witcher 3 and FH3.

Really? Battlefield 1 is a game that made me go "huh so that's HDR, don't even notice it".

That's probably because BF1's colors and lighting already looked great without HDR.

I've been impressed by: RotR, GeoW4, Uncharted4, Horizon 3, HZD, GoW, Far Cry 5 (to some extent) and Asscreed Origins. Those at least.

Far Cry 5 was definitely the most noticeable application of the technology without a doubt.

HDR is hard for me to describe, I'm by no means a videophile, all I can say is the end result is often a very pleasing, more "real"-looking color scheme than what is rendered without it.

I've come to find that if you're really noticing HDR, its probably not for any good reasons.
