What are the most overrated gaming franchise(s)?

In your opinion.

For me, it has to be Halo even though I enjoy the multiplayer but I just don't care for the story. It's the way it's told in the single player that I really don't care that much. But Western games/overall can't tell a story to save their lives and yes I LOVE cutscenes like in Metal Gear or FF. But Halo, even for Western games sucks even harder than your average (Western) game. Don't get me wrong I love Halo'5 multiplayer but I just don't why people get so excited for Halo's story.

Uncharted, Witcher, Zelda, Halo.

Come at me everyone.

Probably Zelda. Barrage of annoying mini games. Same story over and over. Same old "you have found a boomerang", no voice acting or even remotely good mo-cap until now, terrible forced stealth sections. Timed sections. Combat that is easy to the point of pointless. Most of the difficulty in the puzzles comes from the game badly explaining game concepts rather than the puzzles themselves being difficult.

Halflife 2 is good though.

Everything on the Xbox. Hopefully that sounded fanboy'ish enough.

GTA & MGS would be the biggest 2 that come to mind straight away.

@i_p_daily: I don't even like GTA that much after GTA 4. I agree is a currently overrated franchise with lifeless enviornment and world. I love the Metal Gear series because of the story with unique and well voiced cast of characters. MGS PP was my least favorite but MGS series is one of the best in my book. Why don't you like it?

Halos campaigns, I just find them boring with horrible level design and an interesting premise just told very very poorly, downright dumb at times.

Add Grand Theft Auto to this and it's perfect. I mean the Witcher can be dropped from that list, replace it with Half Life.

Also video games stories, especially Metal Gear Solid 2 are a testament to how much sewer water gamers love drinking.

Witcher 3 probably is the most overrated game ever.

Not just "good" or "ok", it is outright bad.

New Order sucks as well, come to think of it. Terrible FPS. Not a patch on RTCW.

Yeah Halo is universally considered to be the most overrated franchise ever.

I'd also add Forza since people agree that the games are mostly rehashed copy paste works.

Halo is a little overrated, but the new games weren't lauded all that well, so I don't really count those.

To me Uncharted miles ahead of everything else.

Honestly though they are good games overall. Not saying any of them are bad at all. I do have disdain for the GTA franchise but I can see the quality somewhat.

Well, call of duty, uncharted 4, halo, warcraft, doom, assassins creed, civilization, final fantasy, gta, mortal combat and a bunch more which I cant remember now.

usually sony's exclusives - Uncharted the most of all - its a vile piece of turd shit, such a horribly designed game in evey possible and conceivable way. God of War - the most simplistic and rudimentary hack n slash, fixed camera angles, qte's, liniar affairs rated at Half Life levels on metacritic. Zelda, everything kojima and so on

None of those are good games though. They are all overrated. Like so overrated and stuff.

Uncharted/Killzone/Gran Tuismo

I guess Shadow Of Mordor is a candidate even though it's just one game.

Believe me when I say I like Uncharted games, I 100%'d everyone of them, and played the MP modes a lot. But they are bizarrely overrated.

Of the franchises I listed, the only one I truly feel is way the **** overrated is Uncharted. I'll never understand the love for those games.

But of course something being overrated is usually a matter of perspective.

As much as I do love some Zelda though, I think you could easily argue that it's an overrated series. People just gloss over and apologize for all kinds of shortcomings those games have. And when you still have people saying that Ocarina of Time is the best game ever, even to this day? Yeah, that's a bunch of wank. As ground breaking as the game seemed at the time, it's really just alright.

Anything that isn't a narrative based walking simulator. Damn do they offer the most compelling gameplay experiences that stay with you long past completion.

@ConanTheStoner: I didn't had a N64 at the time, played Mario64 and OoT for the first time last year. Loved M64, apart from camera controls it's easily one of the best platformers I've ever played. OoT played it for 2h or so and dropped it. Not saying it's bad but it surely didn't aged well. Still Zelda has some stellar games Imo.

Shadow or Mordor. I played it, and I really couldnt understand the praise it got.

Tomb Raider. Never sat with me well. I found it a bit boring at times. I prefer Uncharted.

Halo. There are some great things about Halo, the mechanics of it as one. But I found the characters dull, and the enemies dumb, which really brought down the experience

Everything is over rated.

CoD and Ubisoft's open world formula in general.

Sure, i reapect all opinions, but i'll never understand how don't some gamers get bored playing games that, year after year for a decade, offer the same exact experience!
