What are some of your perfect games of all time?
Games that keep on giving, have awesome replayabilty, GOOD PROGRAMMING, sound, music, atmosphere, game world.

Some of mine would be: Megaman 3, Chrono Trigger, Streets of Rage 2, Garou: Mark of the Wolves. Not too many 128bit+ since more power = more can go wrong.

Oh, I would put Heroes of Might & Magic III on there too.

Halo 3 and Forza Horizon 4 came the closest.

Eh, perhaps, for their time, I'll include KOTOR and OOT in there as well. :P

Metroid Prime, Twilight Princess HD, Super Mario Galaxy, DMC Devil May Cry, Battlefield 2, Chrono Trigger, Sonic 2, Tetris, quite a few really. I would have to think about it for a couple hours to think of them all. And some I would have to replay. Baldur's Gate 2? Maybe. Planescape Torment? Still haven't played it despite having bought it 3 times now XD

Command & Conquer: Generals - both SP campaign and skirmish mode

Flight Simulator X - for the weather and cloud customization

Far Cry 4 - Reset Outpost Mode. There are times when I just want to hunt for targets of opportunity and cause mayhem. No stinking story, no cutscenes, no restrictions, just hone my reflexes. You know, I planned to play for an hour or so and before I know it, two to three hours of mindless destruction had elapsed.

STALKER: Call of Pripyat - even if I replay the game over and over, the conditions on which I replay a main mission may be markedly different from the last time I played it because the game world functions independently on its own. I can replay a mission one time under sunny skies and quiet conditions. The next time I play it, it may be dark and stormy with a bunch of mutants making the mission really difficult.

Sports games are always good for an exhibition match.

I don't think any game is absolutely perfect,

but games that come closest for me are Half-Life 2, Bioshock, Witcher 3, Portal 2, Inside... to name a few.

I'll name some games that I found outstanding, but by no means are they perfect.

Yakuza 0 - I think this is the best game in the Series, and it got me interested and playing all the other games, along with Fist of the North Star. Great Combat. Fantastic Story and has plenty of old school fun and charm

MGS3 - Once again, the best game in the series. One of the few single player games I've played multiple times through. Great story, multiple ways to play, and just fun

Castlevania SOTN - no explanation needed

There is no such thing. But there are games that realize their vision and formula better than all others, namely:

Zelda: OOT, Journey, Shadow of the Colossus, The Last of Us, and GTA Vice City.

there was a bit near the end of the penultimate level when you needed to diffuse bombs against the clock that i thought was pretty poor on expert difficulty. also on expert i seem to remember there being some buggy issues with hacking. but besides that, yeah chaos theory was as close to perfect as they come

Agreed. Especially X because it's fully voiced and still holds up graphically today. It also gives the player freedom in how they level the characters in their party. I'd also like to add:

- The Witcher 3(Never gets old and different endings and outcomes based on player choice add replay value. I have over 100 hours in this game and I've barely touched the 2 dlc's)

- Monster Hunter World(May not stand up to every other MH game but it's my first one and I love this game)

- Mario Kart(Never gets old)

- Horizon Zero Dawn(Not exactly perfect and lacks replay value due to a heavily scripted story. I still never lose the desire to play this game, though. I consider it a technological marvel and also really love the combat and the challenge that it presents. Can't wait to jump back in and replay it on the hardest difficulty)

- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time(It was this and FFVII that showed me just how epic a game can really be. I love this game so much I can literally play it from start to finish in one sitting.)

while i really enjoyed call of pripyat alot. its far too empty to be consider best one. majority of time you are travelling form yanov to zaton to pripyat. and feel like more of open world game.

Shadow of chernoboyl structure was perfect. it was paced better imo. lab x18 is still one of the gaming greatest moment ever imo.

Requirements:

  • Game runs consistently at any frame rate
  • Game works with any resolution
  • Game runs on a wide set of hardware
  • Minimal minor bugs, no game breaking bugs

Some that come to mind:

  • RimWorld
  • Factorio
  • Witcher 3
  • Half-Life 2

I just can't list any older console games, knowing how janky they used to program things back them. Only having one platform to test on really introduces poor programming practices.

I put about 150 hours into it and don't remember any issues...

Besides, I was really impressed by

  • Game runs consistently at any frame rate
  • Game works with any resolution
  • Game runs on a wide set of hardware

I think they did a great job with the engine.

I put in 173 hours in TW3. I may have been bored with the game. But, apart from being a hog early in its release, I don't recall having crashes or technical issues. Otherwise, I'd have screenshots like this one. He He ;)

I wouldn't call the CoP environment empty. I'm in post-storyline CoP. Just to see what Zaton was like after teleporting from Jupiter, I stepped out of the Skadovsk at night and within 30 seconds had oinkers and mutts dropping by, thinking I'm an easy meal. Scouting the marsh area around the Skadovsk and hunting artifacts, I ran into snorks, zombies, and a bloodsucker at dawn. I had killed a chimera earlier. So, it would take a few game days before another one appeared in Zaton.

A few minutes after posting the above screenshot, the whole place became a war zone between Loners and Bandits.

These are some of my perfect games, graded using a combination of objective and subjective standards. Perfect, to me, is a game that is 1.) always fun, 2.) challenging and/or rewarding without frustrating the player, and 3.) never gave me any grief or hassle.

Half-Life series

DOOM (2016)

Command and Conquer up to and including C&C 3

Deus Ex (original)

Aces of the Pacific

Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe

Hitman: Blood Money

Diablo 2

My picks will be mainly PS3/PS4

Mass Effect 2

Far Cry 3

Batman: Arkham City

Batman: Arkham Knight

Dead Nation (I love this type of game and thoroughly enjoyed it on PS3 and PS4)

God of War (PS4)

Red Dead Redemption

Red Dead Redemption 2, if you ignore the online beta

Rocket League

Uncharted 4

Considering I've been gaming for 32 years, there really aren't many games I consider perfect. The ones listed are perfect for their time.

  • Sonic 3 and Knuckles - not separately but together.
  • Jurassic Park (Genesis)
  • Mortal Kombat 2 (32X)
  • Ninja Turtles (Genesis)
  • Mario World (SNES)
  • Resident Evil (PS1)
  • Dino Crisis 2 (PS1)
  • Destruction Derby (PS1)
  • Twisted Metal 2 (PS1)
  • Shenmue (Dreamcast)
  • ICO (PS2)
  • Resident Evil Remake (GC)
  • Zelda Twilight Princess (GC)
  • Smash Bros (GC)
  • Uncharted 2 (PS3)
  • Mass Effect 2 (PS3)
  • Red Dead Redemption (PS3)
  • The Last of Us (PS3)
  • Uncharted 4 (PS4)
  • Tomb Raider DE (PS4)

Possible additions I haven't completed or even played yet;

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4) - not yet completed
  • Resident Evil 2 Remake (PS4) - not out
  • Smash Bros (Switch) - under the tree

I don't know about "perfect," but here are the games I keep coming back to year after year:

  • Super Mario 64 - Especially with the lively quality ROM hacks!
  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series - Great games with outstanding community support.
  • Half Life - I usually go back and replay Half Life 1 every couple of years or so. It still holds up really well and has aged better than its sequel (in my opinion). Black Mesa was a complete disaster, though. Ugh.
  • Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3 - Amazing games. Tons of tricks you can perform. European Extreme all the way.
  • TimeSplitters: Future Perfect - This one gets less play because you really need to play it on an XBox, PS2, or GameCube. It's availability is very limited. Nevertheless, this game is the complete package. It's a masterpiece.
  • Deus Ex - Need I say more? I'm about to reinstall it and try the GDMX mod for the first time.

This list is a bit biased towards older games, as I can verify they've stood the test of time for me.
