Mine 4 most played RTS games

Age of Empires II HD

Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor

Defcon:

Fate of the World:

Those are my top 4 most played RTS games. I like board RTS games too like Catan or Risk: Factions. I like world games where you can play as Europe, Russia or America and dominate a whole world. Or smaller RTS games where you can make base! What are good single-player or multi-player RTS games? PC games only. PLZ no older than 2006 games. NO CONSOLE VERSION

Historical RTS are my favourite.

I like the COH franchise, AOE franchise, AOM, Rise of Nations and Total War.

I also had a lot of fun with the C&C games and Warcraft.

Good choices, my friends. I'd also add something from the sci-fi 4X genre, such as Master of Orion and Galactic Civilizations. That and Dungeon Keeper, but I could go on for a very long time with RTS games.

World in Conflict, Dawn of War, Total War, Wargame, Crusader Kings II, Civilization. + Rise of F*cking Nations

One other under the radar game everyone should know: Unity of Command. An indie turn-based wargame made by two Serbian guys, but it's seriously amazing. It's not complicated like proper wargames, but it has the depth of one. Demo is on Steam, so try it out.

My favorite strategy games are of the 4X variety. I'm very much looking forward to play Galactic Civilizations III on my laptop.

My favorite is the Europa Universalis series. I recommend IV, it's the latest and probably the best one yet.

From what I've played:

  • Age of Empires II
  • StarCraft
  • Total Annihlation
  • Rome: Total War

I used to be big into these games, focusing much of my free time on playing them, but as of late (i.e. the past decade) I've not had the time to invest in really learning them and keep up. I do have Medieval II: TW and want to get into it, but again, time.

Troll much? The RTS genre is a PC genre, console RTS are either extremely casualized or simply suck with a gamepad.

My top 5.

1. Battle Realms

2. StarCraft II

3. Anno 1404

4. Age of Empires 2

5. Command and Conquer 3

Civ 1-5
Heroes of Might and MAGIC 1-5 (six sucks...like rome 2 uggh)
Xcom enemey Uknown
Valkyria Chronicles 1 and 2
Sins of Solar Empire
Rome 1 total war (Rome 2 sucks so bad! so disappointed!)
Medieval 2 Total War
Homeworld 1 and 2
Company of Heroes 1 and 2
Europa Universalis IV
Vandel Hearts 1 and 2
Tactics Ogre
FF Tactics
Disgaea 1-4
Rise of Nations
Age of Empires 1-3
Kings Bounty
Panzer General
Advanced Wars
Galactic Civilizations 2
Fallen Enchatress
Warcraft 1 and 2 (3 sucks to me)
Starcraft 1

I know I am missing a bunch... Turn Based Strategy is one of my favorite genres on PC, and SRPGS on console/handheld.

Oh why did we never get a sequel to Homeworld??

Games I don't like in the genre:

Warcraft 3 (taking away the power to build armies sucks... I hated the hero unit and it's spawn that killed half the rts genre the stupid multiplayer only moba...eww )
Rome 2
Homm 6

Total annihilation was supposed to be a great game. I never played it, but did play it's spin off Total Annihilation: Kingdoms back in 2000 ... great game

I grew up playing Red Alert and their sucky cutscenes, so RA for me.

But recently, I fell in love playing Dota 2(if you could call that as a strat game) and Civ: BE

Dwarf Fortress

Sim City 3000 (Sim City 4 is ace too, but looking back, I do prefer SC 3k)

UFO: Enemy Unknown

If it counts, Chess; a game that transcends both cultures and time, truly the greatest masterpiece of the strategy genre

You could always grab it off of GoG. It's currently on sale at 68% off.

In no particular order:

- Sim City 2000
Yeah, this is old school, but I loved this game when I was younger and it certainly beats the mess that was last year's Sim City.

- Starcraft 1
Ok, yes, I'm old. And even though I played Wings of Liberty a lot, SC1 was still the better and bigger game. It had campaigns for all 3 races and the story was thus not only larger but also more interesting than SC2.

- Warcraft 3
Another old game. Hm, I guess I haven't played a lot of good strategy games lately. WC3's gameplay was awesome and the story was absolutely fantastic. In fact, I'll probably go and play it again later this week.

- Dota 2
I think I can list this here as well, as it derived from a WC3 mod. I know that Dota and its related game have an bad rep around here, also thanks to their community, but the game is incredibly deep with its hundreds of combinations in heroes, items and skill progression. If anyone is into team based RTS, this should be must-play.

Not only did you bump a year old thread, you did it to advertise your mobile game? Tsk tsk
