For years Kirby has been about sucking up enemies and taking on their powers.Yoshi has been about using your tongue to eat enemies and fire them out, as well as grab onto things with you tongue and interact with them. Yoshi games have also always had unique visual styles from Yoshi's Island crayon look to Yoshi's story stitched look in some of the levels, whereas Kirby has usually just looked like a traditional platformer (usually).
Now look at this video of the new Kirby game notice how it really does look like the gameplay and unique visual design would be better suited to Yoshi. Pay attention to Kirby's main method of attack for example, and consider how it really does seem very similar in use to Yohsi's tongue and signature move. Notice how he also transforms into different vehicles and stuff, just like Yoshi did in Yoshi's Island. Notice on the final boss how he uses his, whatever it is (would have been Yoshi's tongue), to grab the rocket and throw it back at the boss just like Yoshi does in SMG2. Also, notice when Kriby grabs the first zip that it actually sounds like he shouts Yoshi as he does so:http://uk.wii.ign.com/dor/objects/853826/kirby-/videos/e310_kirbyey_trl_061510.html
I actually have a feeling this probably started out as a Yoshi game but Nintendo decided to switch out Yoshi for Kirby because they were aware that everyone was asking for a new Kirby game, and since they already put Yoshi in a couple of recent Mario games I suspect they just decided to replace Yohsi with Kirby to put out a game that would appease all the people asking for Kirby out there.
Basically, I'm saying it doesn't look like a proper Kirby game. It looks good but I think they would have been better putting Yoshi in that game personally because everything I have seen fits Yoshi better and they should have focused on creating a Kirby game that retained the gameplay we have all come to relate to Kirby over the years, and let's face it, the gameplay we were all expecting when we constantly shouted about bringing us a new Kirby game.
Now this game however, well, that was clearly always intended to be a Donkey Kong game:http://uk.wii.ign.com/dor/objects/14354707/donkey-kong-country-returns/videos/e310_dkong_trl_061510.html;jsessionid=274qo5wtbnr7c
At least the new Donkey Kong game is exactly what I would have hoped for based on what I have seen and funnily enough it looks to have bettered the New Super Mario Bros Wii game in relation to what I though they were going to do with NSMBWii and how I would have like to have seen it presented.
Still, regardless of all that, it's actually great to see so many "traditional" platform games coming to the Wii. I have always preferred the 2D gameplay of the more traditional platformers over the new 3D ones and this is great for gamers like me.
I just feel like Nintendo might be pulling the wool over our eyes a little bit with this one (see what I did there).
