Vote: Official Gamespot 2013 GOTY Prediction!

Hard to say, but I'd imagine GTA is out because it didn't win GotY on the PS3. Doubt it goes to a F2P indie game. Handhelds hardly win. AC very unlikely.

Leaves us with TLoU and SM3DW. Not sure, but I'd imagine a larger portion of the staff played TLoU and therefore I'd imagine it would win.

Agree with almost all of that except it I think that AC and Zelda have a shot. If you look at the editors top 10 picks they are both in almost all of them

Zelda is a pretty good dark horse to win. I wouldn't be that surprised if it does. I would be if AC did though. Would be odd to pick a yearly franchise for GotY.

Well, PS3 GOTY was The Last of Us. So logically (unless I'm missing something) GTA5 can't get it, and neither can Assassin's Creed 4. So it's between:

Personally I think The Last of Us will get it, but I hope Zelda gets it. First handheld GOTY will be a nice change.

Watch GS totally rip it out of TLoU hands, like they did with U2 and gave it to Demon Souls instead... WTF was that all about GS?

Well,looking at the staff picks TLoU is not even close to being among the most mentioned games(less than half the editors actually selected it for their top 10,around the same for GTAV and Bioshock),almost every list seems to have Path of Exile and Gone Home though.

Last of Us seems to be inspired by The Road more than anything.

I'd like to see Link Between Worlds win just to see the meltdowns.

I believe TLoU will win. It provided something that we've rarely seen in video games before, and that is interesting characters along with a theme that focuses on right and wrong in a serious tone.

Prediction? GTA V... It's the only sensible prediction there is.

Not really. It lost to TLOU on the PS3 so it would be a complete contradiction, but I guess it is still possible.

I´m not saying it will I´m just saying that PoE,alongside Gone Home and The Stanley Parable are present in more of the editor´s lists than GTAV,TLOU and BIoshock. In fact,TLOU is only present in around 1/4 of those lists so make that what you will.

It didn't win any of the platform awards on GS. It's a good game, but it has no chance of winning based on it not being named the best game on ANY console according to GS

They will laugh right back seeing as there was no game on PC this year that came close to the masterpiece that is TLOU

There's about a 20% chance of Super Mario 3D world winning GOTY. I can see a handheld game(i.e The legend of zelda a link between worlds) or a game like GTAV getting GOTY.A PC game like Gone Home,Stanley Parade and etc have a chance to win GOTY on GS.TLOU has no chance of winning GOTY.

Being kind of familiar with a few members of the staff and seeing all of the top 10 lists there is no way GTA V or TLOU wins GOTY.

How in the world did you become a mod, you're about as biased as they come. Are you upset because MS couldn't produce anything worth enough to even qualify for the award? Its sad that this site has fanboys appoint other like minded fanboys to posts of authority to be the enforcers of rules around here.

It got a 8 on GS. I was talking about GS and you should have read my post clearly. It's really hard for a game that scored below a 9 to win GOTY on GS. Only one game that has scored a 8 has gotten GOTY on GS.TLOU will win some GOTY awards on other sites, but GTAV may steal a lot of these awards.

This is hard to predict. I think it will be The Last of Us but the NIntendomination in the Editor's Top 10s was unexpected.

TLOU and GTAV were in so few of the top 10's, I think they're out of the running. It's going to be interesting certainly, but I think it might be Mario, Bioshock Infinite, or an upset by PoE or Gone Home.

And I don't see it on too many of the editor's top 10 lists

Fire Emblem on 3ds should win it, pity it's not even in the running, it's a perfect game. Out of that list I will pick Tlou to win, even though I hated it.

Editor's choice is really not connected to the GOTY part of the awards. TLOU and GTAV are still in the running for GOTY.

@super600: You know it's the editors picking GOTY right? If the majority of the editors don't have the game in their top 10 then it's not looking good.

It's usually not connected to the GOTY discussions and that is why you see a bunch of the games not nominated for GOTY or for any of the other award categories in the Editors choice.The GOTY is choosen only when the editors discuss the nominees.

I think The Last of Us will win.

@super600: When the editors discuss GOTY I'm pretty sure each one will be pulling from their top 10 list. Then they come up with a group they can all agree on and then pick the winner from there. If more editors have GTA V and Zelda in their top 10 than TLOU, then I'm pretty sure that means the odds of those games getting nominated, and winning are higher.
