With the threat of a takeover bid from Vivendi looming larger than ever, Ubisoft is looking for new investors. And it’s taking that search to the Great White North.

Founder and CEO Yves Guillemot and a group of executives have been in Canada this week, meeting with potential investors to shore up support as the French media conglomerate continues to buy shares in the company.

That would be a crying shame if they were absorbed...

Get your popcorn folks. Takeovers are innately entertaining.

Also, for the uninformed, Vivendi previously owned Activision-Blizzard before selling their interest to management in 2014 (google it, may be wrong about the date). Now they appear like they want back in the video game market.

Man how can a major video game company like Ubisoft get themselves in a mess like this?

Don't know what to think about this. Given up on large companies and AAA studio's with a few exceptions. They tend to head in the wrong direction. Better to stay somewhat small or have exceptional ethical leadership.

Not exactly their fault. Vivendi just keeps on buying shares and Ubisoft needs investors to fight them off. They obviously don't wanna be owned by Vivendi and judging by how much the Canadian(Quebec) government loves Ubisoft, I'm almost certain they'll back them to the fullest. If not it'll be hilarious. I don't care about Ubisoft so no love lost on my part.

Really sad if they succeed. Ubisoft have been making some excellent games these last few years.

Not a huge fan of Ubisoft, but I can't see this being a positive for gaming if it happens.

@Juub1990: This is bad for the industry, we need more independent companies not less. Governments need to block this crap.
