PS1 had tons of first and third party exclusives. Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Tekken, Tomb Raider, Gran Turismo, Syphon Filter, Resident Evil, Silent Hill...majority of the games in those franchises were not on Sega or Nintendo with some of them being only on Playstation the entire 90s.

Even if you get official numbers for Bloodborne it will not sell as much as GOW did in its first month alone. Even the multiplat games of that type don't come close. I personally think it deserve to as well but 3mill seems like the max for the type of game it is. The good thing is those games are budgeted accordingly to be considered a success at those numbers. Its just not as accessible as GOW.

@KBFloYd: Just explaining why they're as popular as they are. Many people, me included, started with Nintendo games. So you have ease of access and nostalgia to go with the quality. This is Nintendo exclusives sales triforce. I also ask because you seem to have a negative opinion on casual titles which is wierd to me since you like Nintendo as much as you do.

the word casual for gamers is seen as a derogatory word. So i use it in that sense. I'm just saying ps4 is built on casuals just like nintendo.

Now that hardware is more similar, Rockstar/Square/Capcom/Namco put their franchises on other platforms.

Don’t forget street fighter and final fantasy were basically exclusive to Nintendo before the PS1 when they jumped to Sony.

@KBFloYd: I think they do sell. Do they sell as well as Nintendo? No. But they dont have the loyal nostalgic fanbase like Nintendo does. I don't say nostalgia as a negative either, because if the quality wasn't up to snuff the nostalgia wouldn't be there. I dont think Sony titles have the universal appeal that Nintendo has either. People that like Persona or Bloodborne won't necessarily enjoy something like Uncharted or GoW.

right some of the developers went to sony for that reason. but i mean street fighter 3rd strike couldnt run on the n64? megaman? castlevania? marvel vs capcom?

those games could have easily been on nintendo. i think sony did some dealings behind the scene imo

right but a console with 100million selling less than a console with 30million? you got to wonder what all those people are buying instead of spiderman and god of war eh?

the discrepency is quite big. which is why the "too many games" reason dont work for me.

those games under performed. did they make a profit? maybe... but developers all hope to have phenomenon type game. to have the next pokemon go, GTA or wii sports or call of duty, halo, mario kart. thats the dream for developers,

well mainline megaman wasnt. just a spin off

forgot about castlevania. yea it got a 3d game and ps1 got a 2D game.

street fighter was one of the biggest games around back then and to have it skip nintendo for no reason?

Yeah man its the SW way, the more cows pump them up the more they need to sell to be considered successful, just the law of the land.

System Wars is the only place on the internet where people don't understand that a console with way more quality third party games to choose from will have less attachment ratio for its exclusives. People buy PS4s to play big 3rd party games as well as Sony's games so Sony's games have more to compete against with. Sony also releases a large quantity of exclusives so their sales are pretty spread apart. In contrast, hardly anyone buys a Switch to play third party games and Nintendo's 1st party release output isn't as much as Sony's so naturally their games will have a higher attachment ratio. Only looking at Sony's high hardware sales and expecting their exclusives attachment ratio to be the same as Nintendo's is stupid and defies logic.
