Uh oh! The iPhone 15 console killer gets too hot to hold

I've been reading about it for weeks, how full console games line RE8 and AC: Mirage are coming to the iPhone pro max, and that they may become the main way many users game moving forward. Blah blah blah.

The 15 PM has a heating issue that looks like it's going to derail that from happening.

Download the game Myst, the free version. Set graphics settings to high and play for a while. The area near the volume buttons will get so hot you won't even be able to touch.

I have a feeling the consoles aren't going to have to worry about the iPhone 15 pm any time soon.

EDIT: Apple released an update iOS 17.0.3 that claimed addresses the issue. Phone still gets hot playing demanding games. Looks like they’ve instituted a form of throttling as well, as demanding games will now stutter in demanding areas.

lol using phones to play games. I love my Galaxy for a multitude of things, but serious gaming isn't one of 'em.

You can use the backbone, a controller, hook it up to your monitor. Only concern would be if too hot to run games.

Good ol' mobile gaming. Still rocking my S20, as I literally only use it as a phone/browser.

@tjandmia: this is interesting, and also funny. Imagine if it's that hot to your hand that you can't even touch it...how hot it would be for the internals sensitive components.

All these issues that this phone is having certainly isn’t doing it any favours. Even without these problems I still have zero interest in gaming on a phone.

Only a small percent has overheating issues. This is normal for Apple products. Especially Mac Book Pros. but nice try mate, Iphone still coming for your family, they cant be stopped.

I use my phone for calling, texting, taking pictures, listening to music and many other things, but if there is one thing I don't give a shit is playing games on it.

..overheating isn't just restricted to iPhone but I hate iPhone wish lg still made phones never had a problem with my lg g6

Used to play football manager on my old iPhone it would get really hot and shut down all the time. It was always my biggest issue with phone games.

Bro Samsung phone will overheat playing Checkers. That phone is trash. Not only that, but after a few months theyre slow as crap.

@mesome713: Apple is the only company that throttles the CPU so you'll buy a new iPhone. This is by default and it's already been confirmed.

Might be wrong, but weren’t Apple forced to reverse that decision? Pretty sure they don’t do that on more recent devices, but I remember it on iPhone 6 and 7.

@theam0g: yeah, they claim it’s a software issue. I’m not so sure. The issue happens gradually when I play demanding games. I guess we’ll find out soon enough. 🤷‍♂️

The iPhone 12 apparently got banned by French regulators due to it allegedly breaking safe radiation levels or something to that effect. Should I be concerned about carrying mine around in my trouser pocket all day? 🤨
